Sinks Canyon State Park is located in west central Wyoming just south of Lander, WY. The park is situated in the Wind River Mountains on the middle fork of the Popo Agie River. The site is named after distinct geologic phenomena in which the Popo Agie river disappears into a limestone cavern and reappears a quarter mile down canyon in a placid pool filled with 8 - 12 lb. rainbow trout. The site has a variety of natural habitats which creates diversity of flora and fauna. The canyon provides a variety of recreational opportunities including nature studies, photography, camping, fishing, hiking, world class rock climbing and access to miles of mountain bike trails.

It is located between Popo Agie Falls and Sinks Canyon State Park, where the Popo Agie River disappears into the side of a mountain and then mysteriously reappears farther down the way. The Louis Lake Campground has nine campsites around Louis Lake and the outlet of Louis Creek. The area around the inlet is very marshy and home to abundant wildlife. No trailers over 24 feet. The nearby Louis Lake Boating and Picnic Site includes a boat ramp, vault toilet, picnic tables, and cook grates.
Wild Iris is one of the most beautiful sport climbing areas in the U.S. It's hard to beat a warm summer day spent climbing the white limestone pockets of Wild Iris. And to top it off, you'll belay comfortably beneath a peaceful canopy of aspen trees. Sublime.
The climbs are mostly short, and occasionally sharp, but the climbing and experience is more than enough to compensate for these minor drawbacks. There are plenty of routes from 5.9 on up to 5.14, so most climbers will find more than enough to stay busy.
Wild Iris is located at Limestone Mountain at an elevation of 9,000 feet. The climbing season begins when the snow melts (early June) and can last into Fall. The high altitude makes summer climbing pleasant, but be aware that the weather can change at any moment - wind and cold storms are common all summer. Many of the climbs face south, so also be prepared for warm temps! Remember this is Wyoming - land of the extremes!
A number of primitive spots are available for camping, and an outhouse is located just up from the main parking lot. Closest supplies are located in Lander.
The Lander Bar comes highly recommended for food and drink - it's a climbing tradition!
There are three campgrounds in Sinks Canyon. Sawmill and Popo Agie campground are state park campgrounds. Sinks Campground is at the upper end of the canyon and is a National Forest campground. There are additional National Forest Campgrounds along the Loop Road (Highway 131) above Sinks Canyon.
The first campground you come to in the canyon is Sawmill Campground. It is mainly a day use area, but there are five campsites (one of which is a fully ADA accessible site) that can be used by either campers or tents.
There is a large day use picnic shelter at Sawmill Campground that is available on a first come first served basis.

Approximately 6,000 surface acres. Available services include campsites with tables, windscreens and shelters, group picnic shelters, restrooms, boat ramps, and primitive camping. No drinking water. Other activities include big game and waterfowl hunting in season with Wyoming State hunting license, hiking, watchable wildlife, and horseback riding.
Camping is permitted in designated camping area with a 14-day camping limit.
Ocean Lake is open all year except for a one-half (1/2) mile area around the aeration system, which shall be closed to human presence beginning December 15 through March 10.
