The Laramie Peak area is located in east central Wyoming, stretching from southeast of Casper to west of Wheatland. This portion of the Medicine Bow National Forest is part of the Laramie Range and is dominated by the jagged 10,274 foot crest of Laramie Peak. The Laramie Peak area is managed by the Douglas Ranger District. With nearly 180,000 acres on the Medicine Bow National Forest, the Laramie Peak area offers many public uses and recreation opportunities such as hunting, fishing, hiking, OHV riding, and many others. From I25 at Douglas or Glendo, expect to drive one hour just to get to the National Forest boundary and another half hour to an hour to get where you are headed. Dispersed Camping is allowed on all Forest Service Land in the Laramie Peak Unit, the restrictions are on motor vehicle parking and road access. The Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) identifies what roads are open to the public. From there, you can camp along open roads and trails, parking 1 to 2 car lengths from the road and in selected areas up to 300' from the road (see MVUM) and in either case, you cannot cause habitat damage. After the Campgrounds close (Esterbrook, Friend Park, Curtis Gulch and Campbell Creek), they can be used for dispersed camping. The vault toilet will be open but water and trash services are not available. Please pack in and pack out, limit stays to 14 days and bear in mind that many of the county roads have limited maintenance from November to May.

      Riverside Park

      Great Location

Beautiful tree lined park in the center of town. Borders the North Platte River and a main city street. Traffic noise? Yes. But it wasn’t bothersome. Local folks driving through to see what’s going on and who’s visiting? Yes! And why wouldn’t they? Clean restrooms and showers? Yes! Picnic tables…Grills…Green grass…Beautiful trees…Water? Yes! And free for up to 2 nights! Douglas is a great community and there is a ton to see and do nearby.

      Riverside Park

      A bit noisy, but convenient

Well, the traffic was noisy, but the bathroom was clean. There are picnic tables and little grills situated for public use which was nice, and a grocery 3 minutes away. However, there seemed to be lots of local use of the park, which wouldn’t bother me normally, except for the lack of consideration that people may be trying to sleep in their vehicles. As of my stay, camping was prohibited on the grass due to a drought, so tent camping was out. But it was free with a two-night stay maximum, and some trees even provide shade!

Not bad for a Free spot in Town

Arrived and was the only camper there until after dark. Gravel parking lot with access to the river, but in a built-up part of town. Restrooms were clean, but we're apparently locked at some point at night as I couldn't access it in the morning. I think homeless folks may go there for showers, etc.

      Riverside Park

      Get what you pay for

The women’s bathroom was very dirty the evening we arrived. It was cleaned the following morning trains all night, and next to a busy road. Right on the north Platte River Park is clean worked for what we need it.

      Riverside Park

      Nice spot by the river

It’s next to a small town so you can hear traffic. There are signs saying not to camp on the grass, which is the only spot to put a tent. If you don’t have a tent then they have nice picnic spots, bathrooms and showers that are free.
