Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Moose, WY

Great option since I couldn’t find camping at GTNP it is about 30 min from moose, right now there are fixing the road so it may take extra 15 min. The lake is nice and views are amazing. Bathrooms clean, no showers. Fire ring , picnic table and bear food storage on every site, some mosquitos at evening time

Meticulously cared for family owned and run campground with log cabins. Many pros to this campground... Nice wide sites, most pull through, clean showers and laundry room. The people who run it are super friendly and helpful. Great liquor store and great food truck attached to the grounds. great hook ups, reception and even better WiFi. Only cons are that it is just off Hwy 89, but you don't hear road noise at night. No dog park and is over an hour to Grand Teton and Jackson Hole. We did find great hiking only a few minutes from the campground. We would definitely recommend this place. The owners are constantly out doing improvements, which impressed us a great deal

Host is amazing! Campgrounds are good sizes and accommodates Travel trailers and fifth wheels. Does have group camping. No water hookup, no electricity and no showers. There is noises from the vehicles on the road nearby. It is close to the roads. Pet friendly.

Free dispersed camping with an amazing view. We definitely enjoyed our stay. There were 16 sites total at this campground and the road gets tougher as you go. We had great AT&T and Sprint service at our campsite (1A). Mosquitos are abundant so come prepared. We also did see a bear at our campsite just down the valley but did not bother us. Pets are also welcome!

We luckily found this gem of a campsite after looking in Yellowstone all day, we didn’t get here until later in the afternoon so I was very thankful to finally have somewhere to put up the tent. The camp host was so kind, we stayed in site #11 which is near the creek and by horses the trail riding place occasionally keeps there. My daughter loved petting the horses. Perfect spot between both parks, and we went and played in Snake River which the kids also loved. Gas station not far in case you need last minute things. Definitely recommend!

Dispersed/free camping in the National Elk Refuge. The drive up the gravel road is super fun and provides great views of the Tetons and wildlife. We stayed at campsite 1A. When we first pulled in we spotted a grizzly down by the stream about 400 yards down the hillside. It didn’t bother us at night. The road can be a little rough on up the mountain towards the higher number camp sites. There are 16 sites. The road might be impassible for a small car or mini van if it’s wet out so use good judgment. Pets are welcome but must be kept on leash. Also we had great AT&T and Sprint Cell signal at our site.

We stayed 3 days, 2 nights and loved it! The roads were gravel and it rained quite a bit while we were there so there were some pretty good mud holes along the way.

You have to pass by a camping area that looks more like a construction parking area to get to the actual tent camping spots, so don’t be discouraged if that’s all you see at first. There are several spots along the gravel road and we stayed in site 13A. It was the only spot available when we arrived late Saturday but it was great because it was probably the only site with any privacy to speak of. If you want your pick of spots I suggest getting there early morning. That’s when campers would leave out.

Our site had a bear locker, but from what I saw maybe half of the campsites had them and we were supposed to share with other campers if needed. There was also an ice cold creek close by where we filled up our water filtration bags and solar shower. There was never enough sunlight to warm up the shower though so we didn’t get to shower while we were there🤣 also, have to either dig a cat hole or bring your own potty.

Other than the birds and squirrels the only wildlife we encountered were a few deer and a little fox that came out while we were cleaning up our dinner. But there was an area that looked like a ton of moose had pooped in one spot right at the front of our site. We didn’t notice it til the next morning, and it didn’t really affect us but I would bet it might be why nobody else had camped in that spot🤣

Ultimate lake camping; bring your boat for wakeboarding, tubing, or just relaxing. Even human powered vehicles can be enjoyed; especially close to shore. So much to explore! There are so many places to get out and camp, many of these dispersed camping areas include vault toilets at the entrances, although not much else besides a boat ramp. Some of them are better than others, so be sure to check it out before launching your boat. The ground near the reservoir can get very silty and muddy if there has been recent wet weather, you risk getting your vehicle stuck if you back in too far. Even the dirt roads can get that way - but pay attention and you'll be fine. There were several toy haulers and RVs that made it in and made it out without incident; my group managed to get in and out ok too. 

In late May, it still gets cold at night yet there are mosquitos in this marshy area. They're not too bad, but if you're sensitive to the bites be prepared. I was fine in long sleeves and pants, they mostly left me alone. Fires are allowed most of the time, unless there is a red flag warning. Its your responsibility to know what isn't allowed, there are typically signs posted at the entrances if there are restrictions. Pets are fine too. I think the camping limit was 14 days, but that may have been at the site we chose. Others may be less. 

We stayed at one of very many sites along the reservoir. With 70 miles of shoreline, you're bound to have your own unique experience.

I have not personally spent the night camping here, but I do work for the Forest Service and wanted to give more information about the Darby Canyon dispersed camping sites. I also had a friend stay here for three nights last September and they had a good time. There are about 10~ sites (I will check and edit when I can) all along the canyon road, some are just right off road and others require a short drive down beaten paths to find the sites. All of these sites (except 2 or so very close to the road) are past the cattle guard. Depending on the time of year, many of these sites may not be accessible. Snow typically stays in the canyon until mid-June and starts collecting in October. The area may also be buggy at the height of the summer (July 2024 had been atrocious). There is limited cell service down most of the road and it completely disappears the closer to the Wind Cave trailhead you get. This area has a 14 day stay limit, meaning that once 14 days (13 nights) have been reached you must move at least 5 miles away to continue camping on forest service land and cannot return to this canyon to camp for 30 days. This is in a bear food storage enforced area and any bear attractants (food, pet food, soaps, sunscreen, etc.) are required to be stored properly in a locked hard sided vehicle or other bear resistant containers. Fires are allowed but must be put out dead (cold to the touch) before leaving a campsite. This canyon is regularly patrolled by Forest Service staff and ranger law enforcement officers, especially on the weekends, to keep up with the food storage and fires out dead orders. Hope this helps weary travelers that are deterred by low-rated reviews.

I arrived on a Sunday evening and there were still plenty of areas to call home. During my seven nights, it was a great stay! Only a few people stayed the entire time I was there and many of them were just one night campers. There are a couple spots that have fire rings and picnic tables but anywhere that allows driving is fair game. There were two clean valult toilets and a host that would drive around every morning to make sure you don’t stay longer than then 10 day limit. There is a boat launch near the bathrooms so there’s a lot of traffic during the day and on the weekends. While I was disappointed I did not see any moose during my weeklong stay, there was an abundance of prairie dogs. Also, almost every camper that came through here had a dog and I believe most of them were off leash and well behaved but if you are not a dog person or do not have a dog that enjoys other dogs, I would rethink before coming here because it is very likely dogs will be running around off leash. Great spot it you have a boat or kayak. Only 15 minutes to Driggs to stock up on supplies. Great AT&T service. If you were coming from drags, do not follow Google map instructions. Continue down the road until you hit 6000 and turn right. If you follow the Google map to turn on the first road, it is extremely rutted and unless you have a very high clearance, likely will damage something.

Absolutely gorgeous campground with amazing hosts especially Ben the cat!!! Super quiet and sites are spacious and far enough away from others you still feel secluded. It is incredibly dark at night, I've never seen so many stars in the sky! No light pollution at all. I really wish I had brought my telescope. Very nice park approved fire rings at each site and firewood available for sale at the host lot. Also large bear resistant food boxes and large picnic table available at each site. Water is available to fill your fresh tank but there is no where to dump grey or black tanks so be mindful of that especially when you have to travel 8 miles down a rough dirt road. Hosts did however reccomend we could empty a couple buckets of grey water in the vault toilet if we had to and even offered to let us use one of their buckets. There are vault toilets available and bear resistant dumpsters. Also no cell service at all but I didn't mind. Beautiful waterfall and hot springs you can walk or drive to. Many beautiful trails to walk as well. This is real camping folks; no hookups, no wifi or cell service ...only fresh water and firewood available. Make sure to bring everything you need as it's nearly an hour from town. Generators allowed until 10pm. $15 a day and I believe it was a 16 day limit. First come first serve, no reservations.

This little campground is amazing. Very limited capacity (12 sites), and away from any busy or thru roads. Bathroom is a single, unisex, and was clean and well-kept. Crossing Box Creek to get to the campground just adds to the uniqueness of this little gem. We rolled in late, got spot #8 as it was the only one available. This site has next to no trees for shade (which makes tent camping hot) nor does #6, but the rest do. But the perk of our site was the huge wildflower field we had as a yard to the east, probably 200 yards from the forest tree line....my dog was in heaven. Saw a Momma Moose there and one calf. The mountain view of Box Peak is amazing too as the sun comes up over the east ridge. Made for great sunrises. Highly advise serious tent and small trailers/campers, to check this place out! It does welcome motor homes and big trailers too, but the dirt road to the campground is already narrow as is for medium sized campers and quickly becomes a one lane road - so be forewarned. For $10 a night, right between Teton and Yellowstone National Parks is a STEAL! No reservations needed either. First come, first serve. 11 AM is when sites open from those leaving. Good time to find the best spot is 11 to 2 or 3 (early afternoon). Good luck and leave no trace!
