Best Campgrounds near Ripon, WI

The central Wisconsin landscape surrounding Ripon features a mix of established campgrounds and recreational areas within a 30-mile radius. Green Lake Campground and Hattie Sherwood Park, both located approximately 10 miles northwest of Ripon, offer waterfront camping with full hookup options for RVs and tent sites nestled among wooded areas. Waupun Park Campground, situated 15 miles south of Ripon, provides spacious, private sites with electric hookups and modern facilities. The region includes several state parks and county-managed recreation areas that accommodate various camping styles from primitive tent sites to full-service RV pads with 50-amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections.

Most campgrounds in the area operate seasonally from mid-April through mid-October, with limited winter camping options. As one camper noted about Waupun Park, "The deep spots offer gorgeous private, well wooded areas that make you feel like you're all alone in the woods." Reservations are strongly recommended during summer weekends and holiday periods when facilities reach capacity. Wisconsin's variable climate means spring camping can encounter muddy conditions while summer brings occasional thunderstorms and high humidity. Fall camping offers spectacular foliage viewing with cooler temperatures ranging from the 30s at night to 60s during the day. Many campgrounds provide firewood for purchase on-site to comply with emerald ash borer regulations that restrict bringing outside wood.

Wooded sites receive consistently positive reviews for their privacy and natural setting. Campers frequently mention the well-maintained shower facilities and clean restrooms at most established campgrounds. Sites backing up to water features or forest edges tend to book first, particularly those at Green Lake where fishing access is prized. Family-friendly amenities include playgrounds, swimming beaches, and hiking trails connecting directly to campground loops. Cell service varies significantly throughout the region, with better coverage near Oshkosh and patchy reception in more remote areas. Proximity to small towns allows for convenient supply runs, with most campgrounds located within 15 minutes of grocery stores and restaurants, making the area suitable for both weekend getaways and longer stays.

Fon du Lac County Waupun Park

    Oak/hickory forest

The campground is in a beautiful oak/hickory forest with many birds, chipmunks and skeeters(pack protection). We stayed on site 22 which was a nine minute walk from the toilet and had a street light. There are water spigots throughout. Site 21 or 23 would be better. The sites are large and the ones on the outside of the loop are very private. The campground was quiet, especially after dark! There is a train horn occasionally, but it’s distant. The showers were hot and clean. The playground was fun. There is a pickle ball court, so bring paddles. There is also a walking trail.

Fon du Lac County Waupun Park

    Peaceful wooded camping

Quiet level throughout. Spots for a couple tents and a camper at each site. Disc golf and a small fishing area. Golf course right next-door so close you could walk to. Most of the sites were in a wooded area, which gives you some privacy. Only downfall for us was distance to the restroom as there’s only one so if you’re in the back of the campground, you gotta walk all the way upfront.

    Waupun Park Campground

Waupun County Park WI - Campground

Family friendly campground, playgrounds, pickle ball court, showers, clean bathrooms, fire rings, shared water spigots & power at camp site. There is an outdoor pavilion for groups, firewood for sale at host. Lamp posts light camp road but not overwhelming. Nice shaded sites with mature white oak trees. Enjoyed and recommend if looking for full service campsite.

    Pride of America Camping Resort

    Local Favorite

We just purchased our fifth wheel last month, and a week after we took our first trip to POA. During that weekend, we booked our next trip for a full week. We loved the sites in the back (800s), amenities and the staff. We definitely plan to be back often!

    Astico County Park

Dark enough to see the Milky Way

The sites are a decent size and well maintained. We easily backed in and leveled our pop up. The shower house is clean. The campground is busy this weekend, but was quite at dark. It was dark enough to see the Milky Way. The toilet is quite a walk, but they are adding more. There is a big playground at the top of the hill. On other trips we’ve enjoyed the swings nearer the river and the artesian wells. The hiking trails are nice and there is a restored rail bridge. We’ve also fished and rented kayaks on previous visits. There is a small cemetery at the top of the hill to explore and learn more about the people in the area.

    Did not meet expectations

    DO NOT RENT SITE B25!

We were in B25 for 8 nights. We did not spend a lot of time at the campsite and when we were there it was too hot to be outside. However it smelled. After 5 days I contacted the manager. He tried to write it off as “agriculture smells.” I knew it wasn’t and I couldn’t smell it anywhere else. He visited our site and determined it was the newly (city) installed sewer line behind our camper. He did refund one night stay.

We were in the new part of the campground, the site was level and the full hookups were well placed. Plenty of room and a concrete patio & nice picnic table.

There was only one activity (movie) the 8 days we were there. The staff was less than friendly and there was no trash pickup. Grounds were clean and relatively well maintained. The k9 camps needed poo pick up as some pet owners don’t do it.

Didn’t use the pool area. It seemed small but looked in good shape.

This campground is nice and so are the employees grass gets cut every week, the pool is clean, so is the dog park, my husband likes going to the camp bathroom for a hot shower because our rv only has 10 gallons of hot water. We did 3 months at the camp!
