Multiple RV campgrounds surround Ontario, Wisconsin, providing full-hookup sites for RV travelers. Wildcat Mountain State Park Campground offers electric sites for RVs with hiking trails and scenic views along the Kickapoo River, open year-round with no sewer hookups. Whiskey Creek Family RV Park features 55 sites with full hookups including water, electric, sewer, and 50-amp service on level sites. Neshonoc Lakeside Camping Resort, located near West Salem, caters primarily to RVs with full hookup options, two swimming pools, and lakefront sites open from April to October. "Sites are basic with water, pit toilets, tables and fire rings," noted one visitor about Sparta Campground along the Elroy-Sparta State Trail.

Kennedy County Park provides affordable overnight RV parking about 5 miles off I-90 with grassy, level sites for $10 per night, though without hookups. For RV travelers seeking full amenities, Yukon Trails Camping Resort between Ontario and the Wisconsin Dells offers electric and water hookups, a swimming pool, and dump station access from April through mid-October. Larger rigs should check ahead at some parks, as one camper mentioned, "They could have used a little TLC on the roads into the sites as the rain created large holes and puddles which were a bit hard to navigate a trailer or motorhome." Many campgrounds in the region require reservations during peak summer and fall weekends, with most parks closing by mid-October. Cell service varies throughout the region's valley terrain, with stronger signals at campgrounds near main highways.

      Neshonoc Lakeside

      Old school camping fun

This is a huge campground. It feels like a true old-school “campground” not an rv resort or even an RV park. The kind of campground you loved as a kid. It is hilly with mature trees, although not every site has shade. It is very family friendly. There are RV sites, cabins, tent sites and park models. A lot of long term people live here. The sites are grassy or gravel and are very roomy and level. Lots of activities for the kids…basketball, horseshoes, volleyball, sizeable pool, and playground. This place is older but very clean. Very friendly staff. The lake is absolutely stunning. Snag a spot with a lake view if you can! (See map pic). 1-2 bars on AT+T.

Great value as a TT member

This campground came to us through Thousand Trails Collection.  At first we only had a W/E site and later was able to move to a full hook up site.  All sites has a gravel pad with a grass yard, fire ring, and picnic table.  The fire rings are sunk completely into the ground for some reason.  The lots were spacious and the property offered a large pool, hot tub, restrooms, showers, laundry room, fishing and canoeing.  This is a pet friendly park.

      Russell Memorial Park

      Beautiful lake/creek front

The camp has a lot of long term sites on the waterfront so getting on one usually gets you into spring and camping. The waterfront has mostly electric only sites and run very close to size. We have a 28 5th wheel and we're snug. Site said 25 ft but the picture had a 5'er on it so we booked it. The back sites are ATV/UTV site. They have good access to the trails. They seem a bit bigger. I've seen a few toy haulers back there. There are a few full hookup in the center of the campground but not many. The shower and restrooms were clean. There are larger sites just not all waterfront. We like to travel too much to have a permanent site yet, so we try to come spring and fall here

      Christmas Mountain Village Campground

Christmas in Summer but I think I will skip the WInter.

This is a member resort but they do allow the public in.  We went in as Coast to Coast members.  This is an all season resort it does have a ski hill and accommodations for winter.  You can buy a condo resort, Lease a Time Share, buy a camping site ( with a Park Model on it,  Camp in a Motor Home, Trailer or Tent.  You can camp with full hook ups or as they call it the Wilderness Camping, they have some with 110 hook ups.

Facilities are very nice and clean, Swimming Pool, Club House with a lot of things to do. The sites are nice and big most are either pull through or large back in sites.  They also have an 18 holes golf course, since we don't golf really don't know how it is.

They have some WIFi but it is best at the club house the hotspots worked better.

If you would like to  visit Wisconsin Dells this is a great place as it is not very far from downtown and all the activities.  We spent 2 days exploring the Dells even in rain.  Had a great time.

If you are in the area I would check it out.

      Fireside Campground

      Quiet and friendly RV camping

This is a RV campground, with both seasonal and weekend sites. Coin laundry and shower room with 4 showers. They have nice level site in a grassy and sandy area, with enough tree coverage for shade but not so much you’re freaking out parking your camper. Big rig friendly. Decent wi-fi and plenty of space on your site. Dog friendly. They have a big playground for kids, and activities. For us, this was a great place for us to easily set up our camper and use it as a base camp for hiking at Governor Dodge, visiting House in the Rock, and tubing on the Pine River. The staff here was super helpful and friendly, and the seasonal campers were all nice and chatty. We have camped at another RV campground in Spring Green that has a party vibe, and this was a more relaxed atmosphere. We will definitely come here again!!

      Pettibone Resort

Nice park on Miss River in LaCrosse

Pettibone is a nice park on an island in the Mississippi River in LaCrosse. Being from Louisiana it was cool to camp right beside the Mississippi River since we have levees between us and the river. We stayed one night on our way to Minnesota. There is plenty of shade. The park streets are asphalt with two concrete strips for your tires in the sites. The park was quiet except when someone decided to shoot fireworks between 10-11 pm. A little pricey at$54 considering there were no sewer hookups.

Stayed in pull-through campsite#308 which was shady. It was a grass site with two concrete strips for my TT tires. There was more than enough parking for my TT and truck and grass on either side. The site included: picnic table on a concrete pad. Utilities were located in the rear. 20A/30A electric and water. Site was a little unlevel. Neighbors are close.

AT&T had 2-3 bars of LTE and Verizon 1 bars of LTE service. AT&T Speedtest: 146 Mbps down, 4.8 Mbps up. Verizon Speedtest: 016 Mbps down, 0.14 Mbps up. Free WiFi.

Would stay here again. We camped at Pettibone Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Fox Hill RV Park & Campground

Good mix of rv and nature

We visited for opening weekend during COVID-19, so the park was quiet but open. The staff and owners here were very friendly and extremely helpful when we ran into some snags with setting up camp. We were able to check in online and drive right to our campsite, to get our enjoyment started right away. Our spot, F-2, was right across from the playground and great for my kiddo. Only neighbors to the sides and woods behind. This park has some nature trails, disc golf, and a good size dog run. It’s well kept and maintained. All site are pretty level with gravel pad and logically positioned utilities. The tent loop is more remote, but not a far walk from the park and pool. Pool wasn’t open yet this early in season. We enjoyed our peaceful stay and even booked for Memorial Day weekend as other campgrounds are closed and cancelling reservations. We are happy to have our social distanced camping experience and we’re very happy with Fox Hill. Can’t wait to come back when summer is in full swing! Compared to other campgrounds in the Dells, the price is reasonable for full hookups. It’s also really close to Devils Lake and Mirror State Park, so a perfect spot to have excellent hiking opportunities nearby and be able to quickly access all the yahoo craziness of the Dells area if you need an Olde Time Photo or a water skiing show. If you golf, there’s a 9 hole course next door that is easy to walk to.

      Goose Island

Can’t miss County camping on the Mississippi

This camp South of Lacrosse Wisconsin is a great family or road tripping camp. Goose Island has very friendly staff and a nice little camp supply store at the entrance where you can also purchase firewood in two sizes of tubes. You’ll need a way to haul the wood to your site. We tent camp so we choose nonpowered sites away from the RV’s. The website refers to the camp as being on the backwater of the Misssippi. What ever it is, it is beautiful and right on the water. Bring the bug spray for the evening becasue the mosquitoes do come out in force. The camp facilities are clean and convenient. There is a small children’s playground and a small swimming area also. The camp was relatively busy in the powered RV area but clean and quite thoughout. It looked like there were some long term RV campers by the looks of their set up. You won’t regret staying at Goose Island.

    Guide to Ontario

Camping options near Ontario, Wisconsin range from basic sites with vault toilets to full-service RV parks with amenities like swimming ponds and recreational facilities. The region sits in the Driftless Area, characterized by steep ridges, deep valleys, and the meandering Kickapoo River flowing through at approximately 820 feet elevation. Winter temperatures can drop below zero, while summer camping season typically runs May through October with daytime highs in the 70s-80s°F.

    What to do

Kayaking on the Kickapoo River: Access the winding Kickapoo River directly from Wildcat Mountain State Park Campground. "Great location for kayaking and hiking. The facilities are well maintained and clean... Ontario to bridge 5 was 2.5 hours," notes one camper who enjoyed the river.

Explore hiking trails: The driftless region offers unique terrain for hikers of all levels. "Ice Cave trail was a neat, quick walk. The trails around have gorgeous views of the driftless area and Kickapoo river," reports a visitor to Wildcat Mountain. Another camper mentioned, "We hiked a short distance into our site. We had to pass a grassy area that was always full of bunnies!"

Fishing opportunities: Several lakes and streams provide fishing options. "Lake Neshonoc is great! Great place to go kayak, decent place to fish, and good access to bike trail. The lake is about 600 acres in size and about 11 feet deep at the deepest point. Lake Sturgeon, Bass, Muskie, Pike, Walleye, and Bluegill can be caught at this location," shares a camper at Neshonoc Lakeside Camping Resort.

    What campers like

Swimming options: Many campgrounds offer water recreation beyond just the river. "With 2 swimming pools, daily activities, movies, and a full ice cream shop you won't be bored here. The owners were super friendly and helpful. The top pool is very large and new with a splash pad area. The lower pool is older and smaller, and where grown ups tend to go for a dip," explains a visitor about Neshonoc Lakeside.

Family activities: Campgrounds in the area often schedule events. "We stayed over memorial weekend with a group of friends... If you're looking to escape into nature, this is not your park. If you want full hook ups and a summer camp family experience, this is great. Our kiddo had so much fun at the pools," notes a family who visited Neshonoc Lakeside Camping Resort.

Peaceful environment: Whiskey Creek Family RV Park offers "a beautiful white sand beach around a 1-acre swim pond. The water was the color of the Caribbean with these huge blow-up toys and slides in the middle. Kids loved it." Another camper mentioned enjoying "the nature trails and fly fishing for trout on the riverbank. Very peaceful and relaxing."

    What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Most rv parks in Ontario, Wisconsin and the surrounding area have limited operating seasons. For example, Yukon Trails Camping Resort runs "from April 15 to October 15," similar to many area campgrounds.

Site variations: Campground conditions can vary significantly. At Fox Hill RV Park, "There are 2 main sections of the campground: the new part that is all full hook-up RV sites and the older part which is a mix of W/E and S/W/E. The new section will be a lot better next year, but just finished construction and it is still a wide open area. It was dusty and hot because the grass isn't gown in yet."

Water considerations: Water quality varies by location. One camper at Ho-Chunk RV Resort and Campground warned, "Make sure to use a water filter outside your camper. The water left an orange residue in our dog bowls, sinks and pipes."

Maintenance issues: Some campgrounds require more maintenance than others. One camper at Arrowhead RV Campground noted, "Good size sites but bring extension cords for electrical hook ups.... Odd outlet placement, very clean and friendly office personal."

    Tips for camping with families

Check activity schedules: Many campgrounds offer organized recreation. At Neshonoc Lakeside Camping Resort, campers report "daily activities, movies, tie dye, outdoor movies, and other relay races kept the kids happy and adults amused. Sunday night a jimmy buffet cover band played."

Consider pool options: Swimming facilities make a big difference for families. "They have two pools and a hot tub! They recently set up a Bloody Mary bar on the weekends and have bands by the lower pool. The lake is awesome and they have a small beach for campers to swim," shared a visitor to Neshonoc Lakeside.

Look for recreation variety: Arrowhead RV Campground offers "a cool swimming pond with inflatables, live music most weekends, corn hole tournaments, Friday fish fry, and much more." Another family mentioned, "Great campground for families with kids and teens. Tons of activities all around the campground. There were outdoor movies, put-put, corn hole, two pools, huge trampoline, volleyball nets, disc golf, and a Christmas in July festival."

    Tips from RVers

Extension cord requirements: At several rv parks in Ontario, Wisconsin and surrounding areas, electrical connections require planning. "Friendly and helpful front desk. Pool is very nice. Perfect water temperature in June. Clean facilities. Camping spots are a little rough terrain, TT is level without levelers, but bring them just in case. Make sure you bring 50 ft of electrical cord and water hose," advises an RVer at Arrowhead RV Campground.

Site selection strategy: Choose wisely based on your preferences. "Despite the very crowded campground, the bathrooms were immaculate. Even the Men's room was super clean. They have 3 indoor showers in each gender bathroom, and a couple of outdoor shower stalls," notes a visitor to Fox Hill RV Park who chose "a smaller campsite with just W/E because there are trees and shade, and it just feels a little more like camping."

Leveling challenges: Some campgrounds require extra equipment for leveling. "Our site was very unlevel side to side. It took two 2x6 and a 1x6 under the camp side to be level. That made the first step into the coach, and last step out of the coach extremely high off the ground," reported a camper at Fox Hill RV Park.
