Spacious campsites: Belle Isle State Park gets high marks for site size. "Only 30 sites, all which have electric/water hookup. Most sites are shady and level, with lots of space between. We stayed in site 20, with friends across the way in 11, and it was a great way to see friends, but also have privacy."

What you should know
Seasonal operation: Many cabins are unavailable during winter months. "We stayed a little over a month here," noted a winter visitor to Thousand Trails Chesapeake Bay, one of the few year-round operations.
Distance to supplies: Come prepared with food and supplies. "Very secluded-get groceries before. Not much to do close by," advises a visitor to Bethpage Camp-Resort.
Insect preparation: Waterfront locations can have significant bug populations. "But holy crap! We kayaked in a sunset which was gorgeous... but the BUGS were from another planet. We had super mutant mosquitoes and horse flies. They were resisitant to citronella candles, essential oils, and bug spray with 40% deet."
Train noise: Some properties have railroad proximity. "The cabin we stayed in was about 15 feet from the tracks. Not really a complaint from us since the kids thought it was awesome. So, just a heads up on the trains. They are loud and they are often," explains a camper at Anvil Campground.
