The place where the first permanent British colony in mainland North America was founded in 1607, Virginia is a state with an exceptional history and abundant natural attractions. Shenandoah National Park, protecting a section of the Blue Ridge Mountains’ crest, is an outdoor playground for hikers, cyclists, wildlife watchers and road trippers alike. The only road through the park is Skyline Drive, a world-class mountain road lined with trails, campgrounds, a couple of historic lodges, and more than 70 overlooks.


At the park’s southern entrance, Skyline Drive links up with the equally scenic Blue Ridge Parkway. Connecting Shenandoah with Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina, its 469 miles make it the longest linear park in America. From historic homesteads and the Blue Ridge Music Center to viewpoints, hiking trails and waterfalls like Crabtree Falls, its numerous attractions, combined with free access, make this the most visited unit in the entire National Park Service system.

The Burton Family Farm 

Welcome to our small Farm and Inn, nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Madison County, Virginia. Located just minutes from Shenandoah National Park, we offer intimate nature inspired cottages and camping on our 120-acre working farm. Enjoy an evening under the stars with fireflies and a campfire after a long day's hike, fly fishing on one of our beautiful trout streams or touring the local vineyards and breweries.

We currently offer one cottage and a few campsites for our guests. Our campsites are all private, located acres apart with tables, chairs, firepits, some elevated sleeping areas, some hammock spots and a few with a roof. Many of our spots require walking away from your vehicle, short distances. We have three drive-in sites that will accommodate one or two vehicles. We do not allow RVs or trailers due to our narrow mountain driveway. Camper vans are welcome!

Our farm store includes Animal Welfare Approved products such as Eggs, Chicken, Beef, Pork, Lamb and Dairy from the farm as well as produce, jams and mushrooms and other items from our local community. We offer camping essentials, local art, bike rentals, farm experiences and tours.

The property has miles of trails along mountain spring fed steams, a small pond and access to three private acres on the Robinson River, a stocked Trout stream, just 2 miles down the road. Our property is centrally located to White Oak Canyon and Old Rag Mountain trailheads in the Shenandoah National Park as well as many vineyards, breweries and farm to table restaurants.

Our three drive-in campsites named Birdsong, Butterfly and Gypsy Camp:

Birdsong Camp, is very private, encompassing nearly an acre, has a large campfire with cooking grill, this site comes with a small amount of firewood, has a table and chairs that seat eight, a large level tent pad, suitable for two small tents and lots of room in the grass for additional tents. Birdsong even has its own private horseshoes pits and private seasonal bathhouse, with a flushing toilet, outdoor solar bag shower during warm weather and mini outdoor kitchen that comes with a few essentials, a sink to wash dishes, countertop space, cast iron pans, grilling and serving utensils, oil and a few spices. Birdsong camp is wooded with a small meadow, sits up on a hill overlooking our farm store area, has dark skies and faces southeast.

Butterfly Camp is named for the native plant garden that attract butterflies during the warm months, has mountain views that look to the west and open dark skies for viewing stars! This site offers a campfire with cooking grill, small handwashing/dish sink, a table for two, camp chairs, a level tent site and a covered changing station with a portable toilet using biobags and a solar shower during warm weather. Butterfly camp is the closest campsite to a local winery and brewery, which can be accessed via short one mile walk using our farm road, trail and a local backroad.

Gypsy Camp sits above our working farm in a pine forest with fall and winter views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Drive in access allows campers to pitch up to 4 tents on tent pads or on the forest floor. We provide a picnic table, fire ring with cooking grate and a small amount of firewood. This is a primitive site and no potable water, flushing toilets or hot showers are provided. We do offer a small hand/dishwashing station with non-potable water, a small outdoor covered changing station with a camp toilet that uses bio bags and a solar outdoor shower during summer months.

We have many rental options on the farm. We offer a complete setup to four person tents you setup. Let us do the work! Our tipi tent with queen size air mattress, linens, pillows, blankets is a popular choice for glamping!

Our walk-in sites Sparrow and Fiddlehead are accessed via our farm trails. Each site has a table with chairs, firepit with cooking grate, a hand/dishwashing station with non-potable water and a covered changing area and a portable toilet using biobags. Sparrow camp is located 0.2 mile up the Blue Quartz Trail, located in the forest, surrounded by Mountain Laurel on a small knoll with Fall and Winter views. It is suitable for two tents or four hammock tents. Fiddlehead camp is located 0.3 mile from our farm store along a trail that follows Lily's Creek. The site sits down by the small creek is surrounded by ferns in the warm season and has room for three tents and several hammocks. We offer four-person tent and hammock tent rentals plus a setup service and gear transportation service to these sites.





Watercress Inn at Landon Farm

Amazing camping spot on 8-acre pond. Front row seat for viewing nature, including an abundance of wildlife. Ducks, geese, herons, hawks, bald eagles and many other species of birds frequent the pond. Beaver huts are visible from your site and you may even catch a glimpse of the river otters that play in the pond too. Also included, the sights and sounds of a working farm up the hill. From the moment you drive on to this wonderful farm, you will know you have arrived at your home away from home. 54 acres of fields, oak fences, barns, buildings, sawmill, 8-acre fully stocked pond w/dock and a farmhouse built in 1913. The farm is multi-faceted employing regenerative practices that maintain crops and animals without use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides. Farm animals include beef cattle, goats, chickens, turkeys, horses and a donkey named Mozart. Farm tour included in your visit!

We got this idea from bathrooms used on NASA spaceships, and we've used the Tentrr Loo countless times ourselves- don't worry!

Showers: Every Signature campsite comes with a Coleman Sun Shower. The sun shower has a reservoir that holds up to 5 gallons of water, potentially enough for multiple showers. It's constructed of heat-locking material that warms the water when it's left in the sun, even on cool days.

Self Check-In: to limit the potential impact of community spread, we are encouraging our campers and hosts to adopt self-check in procedures whenever possible. To make self check-in easy, Tentrr provides a map to your site and driving directions in an email sent out a few days before your reservation. Please refer to this guide to get to your campsite. Tentrr Signature Site - Sunrise on the Pond at All Good Acres

40 acres total, 20 acres of fields, tent camping in 9 acres of hardwood trees, 6 acres of evergreen trees and 5 acres of mown lawn. A 30 and a 50 amp hookup. Bathhouse, board games, horseshoes. A World Away Farm LLC 

116 acres of rolling hills, streams, old growth hardwood forest and other areas of young growth pine forest. This property has wildflower meadows and miles of interconnecting hiking trails.

It's been very dry and the sites are all accessible by vehicle except site 10 which is a "hike in" site. The distance is only about 20 yards along a beautiful hiking trail. Site 10 is especially cozy for nature lovers. In wet conditions we will drive you to your site in our 4WD vehicle if needed. (See details for each site)

Pitch your tent in the forest or meadow and walk the labyrinth, sit around a fire ring, and explore miles of marked hiking trails. More adventurous campers may want to explore the wilderness woods and observe the native plants and wildlife. There is an area of 50 acres across from the pipeline open for hiking. Here you will find a large system of beaver dams beaver channels and their ponds, along with all the native plants in this old growth hardwood forest. Deep in the 50 acres you will find these beaver dams where three small streams meet. These streams become "Clear Creek" and feed Lake Orange which is about 2 miles away as the crow flies.

Each designated site has a picnic table, a fire pit, a stash of firewood and container of fresh potable water.

Camp near a vernal pool and hear the frogs and crickets. (site 3 Salamander Loop) Great opportunities for bird watching. Investigate six different kinds of bamboo - including Giant Japanese Timber Bamboo, Giant Vivax, Giant Moso Gray, Thick-stem, Giant Black and Golden Bamboo. This is an herb farm - so there are lots of fruits and berries to sample in season.

Labyrinth, Trails, and Solitude

## Overview

Cabin Camp 3 is located in Prince William Forest Park and is one of five large cabin camp facilities located in the park. Camp 3 is the only camp where visitors can rent a single cabin. There are thirteen cabins available for rent. The cabins are very rustic and provide a unique camping experience in Northern Virginia. The cabins offer easy access to 37 miles of hiking and 21 miles of biking trails in the park.

The park's land was set aside during the Great Depression, and in 1935 the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) began restoring the previously over-farmed acreage, converting it to recreational lands for public use. The CCC built trails, dams and cabins, making the park a wonderful place for recreation and relaxation. 

## Recreation

The park offers many recreational activities, including hiking, biking, orienteering and fishing. Hikers enjoy exploring the park's 37 miles of foot trails. Campers may hike South Orenda Road to South Valley Trail and Laurel Trail Loop. 

Bicyclists will find 21 miles of paved roads within the park, including the 12-mile Scenic Drive. Little traffic and a 25 m.p.h. speed limit make this a popular biking spot. Mountain biking is also available on 10 miles of gravel fire roads. 

The park boasts 30 orienteering courses with picturesque settings. Orienteering is a 19th century Scandinavian sport primarily used as military training. The courses were developed in 1972 and continue to provide hours of entertainment and exploration for park visitors. 

Approximately 18 miles of streams and two small lakes are open to the public for fishing. The water quality of Quantico Creek supports numerous fish species and other aquatic life. The most common fish species are bluegill, pumpkinseed, largemouth bass and channel catfish.

## Facilities

The campground is open mid-April through the first weekend in November and there are three 4-person, seven 6-person, and three 10-person cabins. The 4-person and 6-person cabins are located in the "A" Unit and the 10-person cabins are located in the "B" Unit. There is a bath house with hot showers, a craft lodge, and a fire ring in both the A unit and the B unit. All campers renting cabins must share these common spaces.

## Natural Features

Prince William Forest Park preserves approximately 15,000 acres of Piedmont forest covering a major portion of the Quantico Creek watershed. The park represents one of the largest parcels of undeveloped land in the area and is the third largest unit of the National Park System in Virginia. The area is the largest example of a Piedmont forest ecosystem in the National Park Service, making it a significant natural resource. 

Various geological outcroppings, winding creeks, gently rolling slopes and man-made lakes make wonderful destinations for any adventurous visitor. 

The park is home to 46 species of mammals, 22 species of amphibians, 25 species of reptiles, more than 129 species of birds, 26 species of fish and an unknown number of invertebrates.

More than 900 plant species exist in Prince William Forest Park. From the smallest wildflower to the tallest tree, each species has a special role to play in this forest ecosystem. From tree bark in winter, wildflowers in spring, canopy cover in summer and autumn colors in fall, Prince William Forest Park offers beautiful scenery year-round.

Prince William Forest Park is centrally located, with easy access to all of the attractions the Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C., area have to offer. From the park entrance, the National Museum of the Marine Corps and the main gate of the United States Marine Corps Base Quantico are just a mile away.

Cabin Camp 3

Parking is limited at Turkey Run Ridge Campground. It is recommended that visitors carpool when camping at Turkey Run Ridge Campground.

A 3-mile, family-friendly paved bike lane leads to the Oak Ridge campground. Mountain biking is also available on 10 miles of gravel fire roads. Restrooms feature sinks and flush toilets. There is no shower facility. An amphitheater with bench seating and a fire pit is reservable for day use only, no overnight camping is permitted. Parking is limited for each site; park in designated parking spots only. Carpooling is highly encouraged due to limited parking.

A 3-mile, family-friendly paved bike lane leads to the campground. Mountain biking is also available on 10 miles of gravel fire roads.  
  
The park boasts 30 orienteering courses with picturesque settings. Orienteering is a 19th century Scandinavian sport primarily used as military training. The courses were developed in 1972 and continue to provide hours of entertainment and exploration for park visitors.  
  
Approximately 18 miles of streams and two small lakes are open to the public for fishing. The water quality of Quantico Creek supports numerous fish species and other aquatic life. The most common fish species are bluegill, pumpkinseed, largemouth bass and channel catfish.

## Facilities

The campground is open March through November and accommodates tents, RVs and trailers. "Recreational vehicles are limited to 32 feet in length and 12 feet in height. Trailers and fifth wheels are limited to 26 feet in length and 12 feet in height. Each site has a picnic table, grill, lantern post and parking spur. Each loop has restrooms with sinks and flush toilets. Loop B also has showers. A and C unit comfort stations close down at the first part of November for winterizing. Loop B comfort station is open till the camp closure the first of December.

## Natural Features

Prince William Forest Park preserves approximately 15,000 acres of Piedmont forest covering a major portion of the Quantico Creek watershed. The park represents one of the largest parcels of undeveloped land in the area and is the third largest unit of the National Park System in Virginia. The area is the largest example of a Piedmont forest ecosystem in the National Park Service, makeing it a significant natural resource.   
  
Various geological outcroppings, winding creeks, gently rolling slopes and man-made lakes make wonderful destinations for any adventurous visitor.   
  
The park is home to 46 species of mammals, 22 species of amphibians, 25 species of reptiles, more than 129 species of birds, 26 species of fish and an unknown number of invertebrates.  
  
More than 900 plant species exist in Prince William Forest Park. From the smallest wildflower to the tallest tree, each species has a special role to play in this forest ecosystem. From tree bark in winter, wildflowers in spring, canopy cover in summer and autumn colors in fall, Prince William Forest Park offers beautiful scenery year-round.

From the park entrance, the National Museum of the Marine Corps and the main gate of the United States Marine Corps Base Quantico are just a mile away.
