    Mountain Shadows RV Park

    Perfect overnight stay for us

We are a 40 foot with a tow. We only stayed here over night as we were passing through. Place was clean, friendly staff, spacious sites, ours had nice grass, dog friendly. Canyon View RV Park

Just a parking lot, but in a beautiful park/awesome walk/bike trail!

First come, first serve, dump station on site(back of parking lot), friendly camphost; great access to an awesome bike/walk trail, close to town& Walmart

SITE: Water and Electricity only and all amenities worked great. All sites are back in and spaced in a large parking lot. Picnic table per site in the shade under the trees by your site; level site; all concrete; the sites are close together, but it wasn't full so the RVers thoughtfully spaced out from each other; full sun

CELL SERVICE: AT&T worked great- not all bars but it worked well for use working remote and no issues with video calls using our hotspot.

OTHER: Located on the edge of Canyon View Park. The park had just closed as they prep for their annual Christmas light show, but you could still walk on the trail through the park to access the main bike/walk trail which was awesome and goes on for many miles! We loved using this everyday we were there. Bathroom in the park was really clean. Dump station is in the parking lot(super convenient) on the back side. It was super gusty, windy at night and consistent every night from about 11pm- 10am. Maybe it's just seasonal? Make sure your awning is in!

Dry Hollow Campground — Echo State Park

    Right by the lake

We are at a spot that is on a cement loop (#1) which was unlevel and it is not next to the lake but closer to the road (which is not too busy) but a view of the lake. You get a nice covered pavilion with a steel picnic table and fire ring with grate for grilling. The camp host was very sweet. Most of the sites are pull through and accommodates big rigs very well. The park managers keep it clean.

Chokecherry Campground — Deer Creek State Park

    Decent state park

Camped here last minute while driving through. Well-run, easy check in, reasonably priced.

There are both primitive tent and RV sites with hookups. Small to large sites, back-in and a few pull through. Lots of trees and lilac bushes offer some privacy.

Fire rings, plus BBQ grills, picnic tables at each site. Centrally located bathrooms were clean. Water, trash and dump station by entrance.

The campground is on an incline so there are decent views of the reservoir from just about anywhere and the mountain backdrop to the east. Small but clean beach. There was also ziplining and kayak rentals at the state park but both were closed due to COVID.

    Would camp here again.

    Hill AFB FamCamp

    Cute little spot

Great amenities, dog park, showers, laundry. Stayed here long term a couple times and it’s always a great stay! Close to the park, splash pad, and track. Hosts are pleasant. A little close together but good for being on base.

    Lodgepole Campground

Lodgepole Campground - Group Site B

Nice basic campground just coming out of Heber City, UT on your way to Strawberry Reservoir. This is a fairly large campground with numerous sites. The group site parking was shallow. We could barely fit our 19 ft travel trailer and our truck. Outside of the group site it appears there are deeper sites that could accommodate a long fifth wheel. Parking space is wide enough to park another car next to trailer. There are a few tent sites as around the group site pavilion.

No hookups for RV’s. Dump station on site for $10 fee. RV spots are back in only. There is running water and flushable toilets on site; however, the water line was under repair and not turned on during our stay. It sounds like the repairs have been going on for a long time.

There is cellular service, but it’s a little slow. I have sprint carrier and had service.

Negatives: The campground is close a highway incline/decline which is frequented by Semi’s which bring lots of noise to the campground throughout the day and into the night.

Stinging Nettle: lots of stinging nettle located around group site B, so stay on the paths as much as possible.

    Tanners Flat

Good location for exploring Wasatch Mountains and Salt Lake City

You really need to know this: No dogs are allowed because this campground is in the Salt Lake City watershed.

And this: As inviting as the water running through the campground may look, you are not allowed to swim, wade or wash in it.

One more thing: Gate closes at 10 pm although that didn't stop some partiers at the next site in from us. They partied and left around 11 or so. There was no payment tag on the post. The exit is open but has tire shredders if you enter over them.

A pleasant surprise at a Forest Service campground: 10 lbs of ice for $2! (There was also the usual bundle of firewood for $6.)

An unpleasant surprise: Old, dirty bathrooms. I've seen cleaner vault toilets elsewhere than these flush toilets.

There is no water for now (July 2018) in bathroom sinks or at spigots. The host said something about a pipe issue and water needing to be tested. That covers the amenities other than dumpsters.

What about the sites? We arrived on a Sunday morning when the host was putting up signs indictating which sites were reserved. We had 3 possible sites among 1 through 19 and grabbed #9, a pull through site with a buffer between the road in the parking/small RV area.

Sites in the other area (higher numbers) were becoming available, but that area's host said many of the sites were only appropriate for tents.

Our site #9: There are a few steps down to the picnic table, fire ring and grill plus a separate area to the left for a tent. See photos.

    General site info:

    • Some sites have a concrete pad for the picnic table, etc.

    • Many sites have an area for the tent that is away from the picnic table and concealed from the road.

Guide to West Jordan

RV camping options near West Jordan, Utah sit mostly along the I-15 corridor and surrounding valleys at elevations between 4,300-5,000 feet. The camping season extends year-round, though winter temperatures regularly drop below freezing from December through February. Most RV parks in this region offer mountain views with limited natural shade, requiring preparation for summer heat when temperatures frequently exceed 90°F from June through August.

What to do

Fishing access: Utah Lake is accessible near Lakeside RV Campground, where "the campground is located right off the main road that takes you to Utah Lake. Bring your fishing pole as they do let you fish in the creek," according to a visitor. The property connects to a state park with lake access.

Mountain biking trails: Near Pony Express RV Resort, campers can access the paved Jordan River Trail. "Paved 80 mile bike trail along Jordan River," notes a reviewer. The path is suitable for walking and biking with rentals available at some locations.

River recreation: Weber River activities are available near Coalville. A visitor to Echo Island RV Resort reports, "It's fun to bring kayaks and float the river. The people who manage the camp ground have done a wonderful job." The resort property includes river frontage with seasonal flow levels determining activity options.

What campers like

Pool facilities: Multiple RV parks offer heated swimming pools with seasonal operation. At Mountain Valley RV Resort, "This RV park has three pools, three shower houses, and three laundry rooms. There's a section that is for adults 21 and older where children are not allowed."

Dog-friendly amenities: Dedicated pet areas with cleanup stations enhance RV stays. "Three dog parks and dog washing bay," mentions one review about Valley View RV Resort. Many parks enforce breed restrictions and leash requirements outside designated areas.

Proximity to city amenities: Sites near West Jordan provide urban conveniences while maintaining camping atmosphere. "Convenient location right off the highway with full hook ups and nice paved sites. Easy access to restaurants, grocery stores, and ~20 min drive to downtown," according to a Pony Express reviewer.

What you should know

Site spacing considerations: Proximity between units varies significantly across facilities. At Park City RV Resort, one camper noted, "Spots are long but very narrow. Less than 3' between our slides and the neighbor's slides." Reservation staff can sometimes provide guidance on which sites offer more separation.

Seasonal rate fluctuations: Prices increase during peak summer months and special events. One visitor to Mountain Shadows RV Park observed, "Full hookup site with Good Sam was going to be $75/night selected a partial hookup (water/electric) site instead for $45/night."

Ambient noise levels: Highway and airport proximity affects sound levels at several parks. "Like others have said…if you want space to spread out this is not the place for you," explains a Pony Express visitor. "There is a lot of noise from the interstate and the nearby Air Force base."

Tips for camping with families

Children's recreation areas: Several parks provide dedicated play facilities. A reviewer at Lagoon RV Park & Campground mentioned, "Nice bike and hike trails near by. Close to Salt Lake city. Don't miss the Big Cottonwood Canyon Drive up to Park City."

Swimming options: Pools operate with varying rules and seasonal availability. "There is a pool for the warmer months," notes a camper at Lakeside RV Campground, though most facilities close these amenities during cold months.

Game facilities: Additional recreation options exist beyond standard playground equipment. One visitor at Pony Express noted the "Giant chessboard. Nice pool area. Amazing clubhouse with pool table, foosball, large TV, comfy chairs, guest kitchen area."

Tips from RVers

Utility hookup variations: Different areas offer varying hookup configurations. At Riverside RV Resort, "We had 30/50a options, WiFi, water & sewer at our site. We booked our site under an hour before showing up."

Parking surface quality: Pad materials affect leveling requirements. "Sites are asphalt and VERY long & level—with a strip of grass and some rock gravel," reports a Riverside visitor, while other parks may use compacted gravel requiring additional stabilization.

Dump station access: Waste facilities vary by location. At Echo Island, a reviewer noted "spacious sites with full hookups" along with "a dump station and dumpsters available." Some parks charge additional fees for this service while others include it with reservation costs.
