Mountain bikers will find Redman Campground positioned strategically for accessing the renowned Wasatch Crest Trail, while families can easily reach Doughnut Falls via a kid-friendly hike. This US Forest Service campground operates from late June through early September in Big Cottonwood Canyon, accommodating RVs up to 36 feet with water hookups available at select sites.
Dense pine and fir trees create natural buffers between spacious campsites, many positioned alongside a small creek that provides steady background sounds. "Very nice campground with water running in multiple places," notes Outdoor T., who also observed moose and deer visiting adjacent sites. The campground features flush toilets rather than vault facilities, and several reviewers mention the exceptional cleanliness of the restroom buildings.
Campers can fish in nearby waters or explore the proximity to Brighton and Silver Lake for additional hiking options. The surrounding old-growth forest provides ample opportunities for hammock setup, while maintained fire rings accommodate evening campfires. Sites directly next to the creek tend to fill quickly, particularly the double sites that work well for larger groups. Water spigots are distributed throughout the campground, and cell service reaches most areas.
Access requires navigating steep switchbacks and rough road conditions that some reviewers describe as challenging for larger rigs. A 20-foot van managed the loop road successfully, but longer units may struggle. The campground operates on both reservation and first-come, first-served systems, with weekend availability often limited. Important note: dogs are prohibited throughout the area due to watershed protection regulations.
Redman works best for campers seeking forest camping with creek access, particularly those planning to explore Big Cottonwood Canyon's hiking and biking trails while staying within an hour of campgrounds around Brighton.
