Best Glamping near Salt Lake City, UT

Several glamping sites near Salt Lake City combine outdoor settings with comfortable accommodations that go beyond basic camping. The City Park Campground has well-appointed yurts with heating and cooling systems for year-round comfort. At the Area State Park, you'll find safari-style tents that come with electricity and quality bedding instead of sleeping bags. The Utah National Forest has some interesting glamping structures built to blend with the surrounding trees while providing more comfort than traditional camping. Many glamping locations have good food options nearby, which saves you from cooking over a campfire. Most sites include private bathrooms rather than shared facilities you'd find at regular campgrounds. The Recreation Area works well for people who want outdoor time without giving up creature comforts. The contrast between comfortable beds and wild landscapes is what draws many people to glamping in this area. Salt Lake City County Park has some higher-end glamping setups that attract people who wouldn't normally camp. These glamping options make good base camps for day trips to places like Zion and Bryce Canyon without roughing it overnight.

    Nunns Park

Close to river and in the mountains with a highway close by.

This is a great place to pitch a tent or come up and stay for the day. The only bad part about this camp site is all the highway noise. It is close to the Provo river and there is lots of shade so that is nice. Great place to have a camp fire and cook some S'mores.  The bike path is close so bring your long board or bike and go for a ride. This is withing walking distance from Bridal Vail Falls so that is a great day hike and see the falls. Also great fly fishing in the Provo river so do yourself a favor and bring your fishing gear.

Will be sharing parking with 2 other sites. 2 lakes nearby. Fire pit with grill gate. Shaded area. Full sun from 10am-4pm.

    Tanners Flat

Good location for exploring Wasatch Mountains and Salt Lake City

You really need to know this: No dogs are allowed because this campground is in the Salt Lake City watershed.

And this: As inviting as the water running through the campground may look, you are not allowed to swim, wade or wash in it.

One more thing: Gate closes at 10 pm although that didn't stop some partiers at the next site in from us. They partied and left around 11 or so. There was no payment tag on the post. The exit is open but has tire shredders if you enter over them.

A pleasant surprise at a Forest Service campground: 10 lbs of ice for $2! (There was also the usual bundle of firewood for $6.)

An unpleasant surprise: Old, dirty bathrooms. I've seen cleaner vault toilets elsewhere than these flush toilets.

There is no water for now (July 2018) in bathroom sinks or at spigots. The host said something about a pipe issue and water needing to be tested. That covers the amenities other than dumpsters.

What about the sites? We arrived on a Sunday morning when the host was putting up signs indictating which sites were reserved. We had 3 possible sites among 1 through 19 and grabbed #9, a pull through site with a buffer between the road in the parking/small RV area.

Sites in the other area (higher numbers) were becoming available, but that area's host said many of the sites were only appropriate for tents.

Our site #9: There are a few steps down to the picnic table, fire ring and grill plus a separate area to the left for a tent. See photos.

    General site info:

    • Some sites have a concrete pad for the picnic table, etc.

    • Many sites have an area for the tent that is away from the picnic table and concealed from the road.

Cottonwood Campground — Willard Bay State Park

    unexpected goodness :)

I was impressed with the size of sites and the decent amount of privacy of the sites as well. Being the park is somewhat close to Salt Lake City I wasn't sure what to expect, but we were pleased with a couple nights at this park.

    Spruces - Big Cottonwood

    Beautiful location

Beautiful area and lots of first come first serve spots. Here late in the season so it was chilly but it is in the mountains! Winding road to get here from Park City but appears to be a shorter straight shot into Salt Lake City. Picnic tables and fire rings at each site right next to the parking site which works out well for a rooftop tent.

    Pony Express RV Resort

    Wake and Head North

Coming from Las Vegas to go to Montana to visit family, Salt Lake City is a great middle stop.  We (3 kids, 3 adults, 3 dogs, and a cat) found Pony Express and were extremely pleased.  The GPS carjacked us and the resort was a bit difficult to find but once we did it was excellent.

    Things we loved:

    • Very clean and well kept
    • Flat, level parking spots - many pull-throughs
    • Very quiet

    Not so much:

    • The sites were very tight
