Backcountry glamping near Logan, Utah offers access to the Wasatch-Cache National Forest where elevations range from 4,500 to nearly 10,000 feet. The higher elevations typically receive 300-400 inches of snow annually, creating seasonal accessibility challenges for many glamping sites. Water sources at unimproved sites may require filtration, while developed campgrounds provide potable water during peak season.
What to do
Winter recreation access: Green Canyon Yurt provides direct access to groomed trails for cross-country skiing. "During the winter months, Powder Ridge manages the Green Canyon Road and grooms it on an almost daily basis. It is groomed for cross-country skiing with the designated track on one side. You can also Snowshoe, or ride your bike with fat tires up if your adventurous!" notes Steven E.
Waterfall hiking: Short trails connect to impressive waterfalls from several campgrounds. At North Fork County Park, "There's a short waterfall hike, but also a long hike that will take you up to Ben Lomond Peak & cut across to Willard Peak. Go when there's no smoke and you'll have breathtaking views," suggests Morgan L.
Fishing opportunities: Streams and lakes throughout the area provide fishing access. At Friendship Campground, "All the sites are located right along the river. The fishing is pretty good, and the hiking is great. Just to the north of the campground is a trailhead for Richards Hollow where you can see a very pretty waterfall," reports Derek E.
What campers like
Riverside camping: Many sites feature stream or lake access. "The spring was fun for the kids to play in. There was a small dam at the bottom where the kids could swim and kayak," writes Maybo H. about Spring Hollow Campground.
Lake recreation: Tony Grove Lake provides swimming and non-motorized boating. "This is such a lovely place to camp. The campsite has many trails going down to the lake. Fir trees are everywhere, and the campground is very clean," shares Jenn about Tony Grove Campground.
Private sites: Despite developed campgrounds, many offer separation between campers. At North Fork County Park, "each of the sites seem to have plenty of space for any type of camping you do, and are well tended in between seasons and visitors. And even with the ample size of each site, you don't feel like you're in your neighbor's lap," notes Dave D.
What you should know
Seasonal accessibility: Most campgrounds and glamping yurts have limited operating seasons. "Tony Grove Campground is open July 13 to September 23," while Spring Hollow operates "May 18 to September 9." Winter access to yurts requires advance planning.
Bathroom facilities: Bathroom quality varies significantly between sites. "The only reason why I give this site a four-star is because the bathrooms are run down and old. We also found a rattlesnake next to the bathroom," cautions Maybo H. about Spring Hollow.
Wildlife encounters: The Logan area has active wildlife populations including rattlesnakes and larger mammals. At Blind Hollow Yurt, pets are allowed but require supervision due to wildlife concerns.
Tips for camping with families
Creek play spots: Small children enjoy water features at several campgrounds. "The spring is really nice for little kids to play with and there is a small dam at the bottom to go fishing swim and kayaking," reports Maybo H. about Spring Hollow.
Easy trails: Many sites connect to family-friendly trails. "This is a great family camping spot we found near Logan, UT. Very green, lush, and beautiful," says Adam P. about Spring Hollow Campground.
Spacious sites for groups: Friendship Campground offers "5 individual sites that are Walk-in only (not reservable) and 1 large group site (reservable). All the sites have picnic tables, fire pits, and decent space for larger tents," according to Derek E.
Tips from RVers
Size limitations: Many forest campgrounds have tight turns unsuitable for larger rigs. At Tony Grove, "The road in the campground is tight on some corners for longer rigs. A lot of spots are difficult to back into with a trailer. Small trailers and tents will work best up here," advises Jeni.
Hookup availability: Full hookups are limited near Logan. Traveland RV Park offers "super nice and level" sites with "great grass area to relax in," according to Jason S., who adds "It can be a little hard to find just look for the Quality Inn and the entrance is on either side of it."
Off-grid preparation: Most forest service sites lack hookups. "Pack your generator and fill your water," recommends Jared about North Fork County Park, which offers "enough trees to keep your site private, able to fit a 30' trailer in over 75% of their spots."
