Capitol Reef RV Park and Glamping

      Brand new March 2025

Everything is new. They still building the office / common room. The private bathrooms and showers are great. Everything is spotless clean. Laundry room only has 2 washers & 2 dryers. Fine now as this RV park is pretty empty. It also has several A-frame little cabins. Maybe a little dusty as they are finishing up all the gravel work. Hookups are good. Pads are level. Every spot has a picnic table & fire pit. Dog park kind of small. All dirt. Lots of areas to walk dogs. Verizon has 3 bars. WiFi is great, but not many campers here.

A couple miles to town. Off the highway. Very quiet. Very dark at night so really nice for stargazing.

And the mountain views are beautiful on 2 sides!

We definitely will stay again if we in the area.

      Canyons of Escalante RV Park

      Great stopover for regrouping

We been dispersed camping with a camper van for a week and this RV park was everything we needed: laundry, showers, recharge devices with power along with the dump, all within a few steps. Each site has a dividing fence with plenty of room in between. The owners know how bad RV parks could be. Never seen cleaner facilities with a spacious laundry room, showers, etc. They even have a dog park. Their communication with you is above par, everything is explained before you arrived via text. And if you are overdue on your stated arrival time, they send you a text with after hours check-in info.

      Sunglow Recreation Site

      Middle of nowhere goodness

This little campground is nestled right in Bicknell, Utah. There’s only a few spots but the view is beautiful and walking distance to a well-trafficked hike. The water was shut off and bathrooms locked when we stayed, but the stream nearby was useful! Would highly recommend if you’re in the area, and make sure to stop by Marinia’s Country Cafe if you’re driving through.

      Sevier River RV Park

      Peaceful river setting

Lovely rustic rv park in a peaceful setting along the Sevier River. The owners have worked hard to make this property nice with many amenities including clean bathrooms, clean showers, communal covered picnic area, dog park, pickleball/basketball area and cabins. I really like the views and how peaceful it is compared to some big RV parks. It wasn’t too crowded when we were here on May 19, but think the area must be popular because of all the ATV trails nearby. We rode right from the RV park to take our e-bikes on a paved bike trail through the Sevier Canyon. Super fun! Owners and staff very friendly.

      Dispersed Campground - Goblin Valley

Awesome spot with lots to explore!

We loved this site! There are a lot of little canyon trails to explore for all ages! Super close to both Goblin Valley and Little Wildhorse Canyon! Highly recommend the Little Wild Horse Canyon / Bell Canyon hike. Bring lots of water and make sure your pets stay hydrated as well! Went over Memorial Day weekend 2021 and it was not as busy as I expected it to be!

Thousand Lakes RV Park and Campground

      Great Views & Super Friendly

Very tidy RV park with various accommodations including dry sites (which we used), tent sites, cabins, and regular RV sites. Saw every size rig. Bathrooms at far end of park are larger and newer. Clean showers. Small pool and on-site BBQ Restaurant. Jeep rentals, pet areas, playground and cool gift shop. Awesome unobstructed views from sites on outer perimeter. We were in D2. Only drawback is you're pretty close to your neighbors. All sites have picnic benches. Large grass area near pool and restaurant.

      Birch Creek Campground

      2 Group Picnic Sites

Camped here 1 night. The 4.5 mile road off the highway is very good though dusty. Creek is lovely. Sites vary in their condition but flat tent or van spots are uncommon. ORV traffic and locals passing by about every hour. WeBoost 3 Verizon bars. My retriever who is used to bears refused to go out in the dark, probably Mt Lions about so watch small pets closely.

    Guide to Bicknell

Dispersed camping near Bicknell provides access to Capitol Reef National Park with several free options for dog owners. Sites on public land in this high desert region sit at elevations around 7,000 feet, creating dramatic temperature drops after sunset. The area experiences strong seasonal winds, particularly in spring months, which tent campers should prepare for with proper staking and site selection.

    What to do

Explore local orchards: Near Fruita Campground, visitors can enjoy a unique agricultural experience. "There were abundant mule deer that walked through the campsite. The campground also backs up to an orchard with a brook running through it. Lots to do in walking distance," notes Hattie R.

River access cooling: During hot summer days, the Fremont River provides relief. At The Bend Gem, campers can find swimming spots. "We got an amazing spot right next to the river with a great swimming hole. Zero light pollution so the stars were incredible," writes Spencer L. Another visitor adds, "Water was cold but refreshing after a long day of hot hiking."

Discover hiking trails: Some dispersed camping areas offer trails right from camp. "Decent cell signal and a hiking trail right out of our site. Incredible rock cliffs right in your face!" shares Amy B. about Route 24 Dispersed Camping.

    What campers like

Privacy options: At Overlook Point Dispersed Site, campers appreciate space away from crowds. "Lots of people here but just like anywhere if you have good clearance and 4x4 you can push far enough to find your own privacy," explains Justin E. Another visitor mentions, "Great spots with small trees giving some privacy. Some spots are harder to get to than others."

Wildlife viewing: Local campgrounds offer wildlife encounters. "We had a huge tree to pitch the tent under and we felt far enough from our neighbors. We frequented the orchards and picked apples and bought pie and coffee everyday from the Gifford House," shares Samantha R. from Capitol Reef's main campground.

Night sky visibility: Without light pollution, stargazing is exceptional. "The night sky was magnificent and may have made up for our inability to shower for a couple days. We were the only ones in the park, Winter camping. It's located in a dark sky area," reports Carlyne F. about Sand Creek RV.

    What you should know

Weather challenges: Wind can be significant, especially at exposed sites. At Beas Lewis Flat Dispersed, Jenn C. warns, "This is a great spot not far at all from the Park. You're up on a beautiful bluff but we won't stay again due to relentless wind. Zero wind in the park just a 15 min drive away but the wind here was just terrible."

Road conditions: Access to some sites requires careful driving. "Take care driving in as there are large rocks on the entry track. Level sites for RVs and lots of tent suitable spots," advises James W. about Capitol Reef dispersed camping.

Seasonal operations: Many campgrounds have limited seasons. "We didn't find out they closed their showers and bathrooms until we were told upon arrival. (They close 10/31)," shares Carlyne F. about winter camping at Sand Creek RV.

    Tips for camping with families

Playgrounds and facilities: Thousand Lakes RV Park offers family-friendly amenities. "The small swimming pool was loved by the kids. The grassy park area was nice," mentions Scott O. Another camper adds, "There is a large park area in the center with a playground and volleyball court. Super kid friendly."

Stream exploration: Some sites have water features kids enjoy. "We pulled in in the middle of the night only to wake up and find ourselves among the red rocks. There are absolutely no amenities here, but there are several established sites with fire pits," reports Katie M.

Wildlife viewing opportunities: Many children enjoy seeing animals around camp. "I love going and seeing the big deer in the campground and park. Lots of great hikes close and lots of things to do," Brad B. notes about the area.

    Tips from RVers

Size considerations: For larger rigs, approach with caution at Sunglow Campground. "Sites vary in size, with some being more suitable for tent camping while others accommodate RVs. We used the group side using rooftop tents. We had a great view quiet evening," says Kent.

Electric reliability: Check systems during peak season. "When all the large RVs returned for the night, our electricity browned out and we couldn't run our AC. Our power also cut out during the night," warns Pam R. about seasonal issues at Thousand Lakes RV Park.

Leveling challenges: Many dog friendly campgrounds near Bicknell have uneven terrain. "Not all are level but you have to look for the flat ones. Stunning views," advises Justin R. about dispersed options, while others recommend bringing leveling blocks for most area campgrounds.
