    Canyon View RV Park

Just a parking lot, but in a beautiful park/awesome walk/bike trail!

First come, first serve, dump station on site(back of parking lot), friendly camphost; great access to an awesome bike/walk trail, close to town& Walmart

SITE: Water and Electricity only and all amenities worked great. All sites are back in and spaced in a large parking lot. Picnic table per site in the shade under the trees by your site; level site; all concrete; the sites are close together, but it wasn't full so the RVers thoughtfully spaced out from each other; full sun

CELL SERVICE: AT&T worked great- not all bars but it worked well for use working remote and no issues with video calls using our hotspot.

OTHER: Located on the edge of Canyon View Park. The park had just closed as they prep for their annual Christmas light show, but you could still walk on the trail through the park to access the main bike/walk trail which was awesome and goes on for many miles! We loved using this everyday we were there. Bathroom in the park was really clean. Dump station is in the parking lot(super convenient) on the back side. It was super gusty, windy at night and consistent every night from about 11pm- 10am. Maybe it's just seasonal? Make sure your awning is in!

    Washington Lake Campground

A very popular, family friendly, beautiful campground.

We stayed for 7 nights (the limit) in August of 2023. It's all paved, asphalt road and concrete pad for picnic table. Very beautiful setting with the large lake and mountains surrounding. Fishing-yes! Hand powered boating, hiking trails and lots of other lakes to explore.

There no water available but you can fill your RV, Trailer or whatever at the entrance to the Lost Creek CG which is about 3 miles east on Hwy 150. No Dump station, nearest being in Kamas.

Seems to be a popular place for local (SLC) families to gather. Family friendly so lots of kids. Quiet time 10PM to 6AM.

Dry Hollow Campground — Echo State Park

    Right by the lake

We are at a spot that is on a cement loop (#1) which was unlevel and it is not next to the lake but closer to the road (which is not too busy) but a view of the lake. You get a nice covered pavilion with a steel picnic table and fire ring with grate for grilling. The camp host was very sweet. Most of the sites are pull through and accommodates big rigs very well. The park managers keep it clean.

Chokecherry Campground — Deer Creek State Park

    Decent state park

Camped here last minute while driving through. Well-run, easy check in, reasonably priced.

There are both primitive tent and RV sites with hookups. Small to large sites, back-in and a few pull through. Lots of trees and lilac bushes offer some privacy.

Fire rings, plus BBQ grills, picnic tables at each site. Centrally located bathrooms were clean. Water, trash and dump station by entrance.

The campground is on an incline so there are decent views of the reservoir from just about anywhere and the mountain backdrop to the east. Small but clean beach. There was also ziplining and kayak rentals at the state park but both were closed due to COVID.

    Would camp here again.

    Lodgepole Campground

Lodgepole Campground - Group Site B

Nice basic campground just coming out of Heber City, UT on your way to Strawberry Reservoir. This is a fairly large campground with numerous sites. The group site parking was shallow. We could barely fit our 19 ft travel trailer and our truck. Outside of the group site it appears there are deeper sites that could accommodate a long fifth wheel. Parking space is wide enough to park another car next to trailer. There are a few tent sites as around the group site pavilion.

No hookups for RV’s. Dump station on site for $10 fee. RV spots are back in only. There is running water and flushable toilets on site; however, the water line was under repair and not turned on during our stay. It sounds like the repairs have been going on for a long time.

There is cellular service, but it’s a little slow. I have sprint carrier and had service.

Negatives: The campground is close a highway incline/decline which is frequented by Semi’s which bring lots of noise to the campground throughout the day and into the night.

Stinging Nettle: lots of stinging nettle located around group site B, so stay on the paths as much as possible.

    Tanners Flat

Good location for exploring Wasatch Mountains and Salt Lake City

You really need to know this: No dogs are allowed because this campground is in the Salt Lake City watershed.

And this: As inviting as the water running through the campground may look, you are not allowed to swim, wade or wash in it.

One more thing: Gate closes at 10 pm although that didn't stop some partiers at the next site in from us. They partied and left around 11 or so. There was no payment tag on the post. The exit is open but has tire shredders if you enter over them.

A pleasant surprise at a Forest Service campground: 10 lbs of ice for $2! (There was also the usual bundle of firewood for $6.)

An unpleasant surprise: Old, dirty bathrooms. I've seen cleaner vault toilets elsewhere than these flush toilets.

There is no water for now (July 2018) in bathroom sinks or at spigots. The host said something about a pipe issue and water needing to be tested. That covers the amenities other than dumpsters.

What about the sites? We arrived on a Sunday morning when the host was putting up signs indictating which sites were reserved. We had 3 possible sites among 1 through 19 and grabbed #9, a pull through site with a buffer between the road in the parking/small RV area.

Sites in the other area (higher numbers) were becoming available, but that area's host said many of the sites were only appropriate for tents.

Our site #9: There are a few steps down to the picnic table, fire ring and grill plus a separate area to the left for a tent. See photos.

    General site info:

    • Some sites have a concrete pad for the picnic table, etc.

    • Many sites have an area for the tent that is away from the picnic table and concealed from the road.

Guide to American Fork

Camping sites near American Fork include both urban and mountain locations within 30-40 minutes of the city. The elevation ranges from 4,500 feet in valley locations to over 7,000 feet at mountain sites, creating notable temperature differences between camping areas. Most RV campgrounds offer seasonal availability from April through October, with a few remaining open year-round.

What to do

Explore nearby rivers: At Knotty Pine RV Resort in Kamas, visitors can enjoy the riverside setting. "The river is hard to get to but pleasant to listen to. The Velvet Ash was blooming so it looked like snow in July," notes Marie E., highlighting the natural beauty of the area.

Play golf: The Gladstan Golf Course & RV park in Payson combines camping with direct access to golf facilities. "The golf course and mountain range is very nice," reports Kelly N., though she cautions that "the spots are not level, and the water pressure is high. Make sure you have a water regulator."

Fish in stocked waters: Several campgrounds maintain fishing areas for guests. At Echo Island RV Resort, "They had a small pond for kids to fish in," mentions Carlee G., making it suitable for beginners and children learning to fish.

What campers like

Heated swimming pools: Multiple RV parks offer swimming facilities even in cooler months. "They have two pools (one limited to adults only), two dog parks (one large enough for big dogs to run and fetch), two sets of pickle ball courts," shares Karla B. about Mountain Valley RV Resort in Heber City.

Adult-only areas: For travelers seeking quieter spaces, some parks designate adult-specific sections. A reviewer at Echo Island noted, "There is a tent camping and picnic area adjacent to the pool," while others mentioned adult-only sections at larger resorts that provide separation from family areas.

Walking trails: Access to paved or natural trails directly from campsites ranks high among camper preferences. Julia M. describes the advantage at Canyon View RV Park: "We loved using this everyday we were there. Bathroom in the park was really clean. Dump station is in the parking lot (super convenient) on the back side."

What you should know

Reservation policies: Most campgrounds require advance booking, particularly during summer months. For Lakeside RV Campground in Provo, "Reserved a few hours before arriving on a Sunday in June and there were plenty of spots. Camp host was super nice when we arrived," reports an off-season visitor, but summer availability is much more limited.

Road noise: Highway proximity affects several RV parks in the region. Caroline D. notes about Echo Island RV Resort: "The only reason I couldn't give 5 stars is due to the highway noise, but that made it convenient."

Fire restrictions: Fire rules vary significantly between campgrounds. Knotty Pine Resort permits campfires, with one visitor mentioning, "We were allowed fires." However, several other facilities prohibit wood fires entirely due to seasonal restrictions and proximity to urban areas.

Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly amenities: When traveling with children, look for campgrounds with dedicated play areas. "There is a playground and pavilion for gatherings. I suspect this is a very popular campground in the summer," notes Christine about Lakeside RV Campground.

Swimming options: Pools provide reliable recreation for families. Carlee G. describes Echo Island RV Resort: "They had a small pond for kids to fish in, two swimming pools and two hot tubs, very clean and modern facilities, well maintained campsites with fire pit."

Entertainment rentals: Some parks offer equipment loans. "They have an on-site RV wash available and allowed us to borrow an adaptor from them at no charge," shares Carlyne F. about Mountain Valley RV Resort, while another mentions DVD and sports equipment available for checkout.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling: Prepare for varied site conditions across the area. "Pull throughs or back in on paved level sites. Picnic table. FHU. Sites typically close with grass area separating," reports Janet H. about Pony Express RV Resort in North Salt Lake.

Water pressure management: Several campgrounds have high water pressure requiring regulation. Kelly N. warns at Gladstan Golf Course: "The water pressure is high. Make sure you have a water regulator."

Weekday stays: For more space and quieter conditions, schedule mid-week visits. Amy observed at Pony Express: "Spaces aren't as small as I feared they'd be after reading reviews. I guess it depends on your rig size. We have a small 21' travel trailer and the pull through spots are perfect!"
