    The Retreat at Shady Creek

    Awesome RV resort in town

We normally don't do RV resorts, but this one is awesome. The sites are fairly spacious, especially compared to other RV resorts. Big rig friendly with many different style spots to choose from. We always choose the fence line back in sites, and they always come with plenty of grass to walk the dogs. The fence backs up to residential, but that doesn't bother us. Even the back in sites are plenty spacious for a big rig and your tow vehicle and another vehicle. The park is very roomy and easy to navigate and park.

The staff are always so nice and they make late check in a breeze, which we appreciate after a long, tiring day of towing. This RV resort is the only place we've ever stayed in that allows RV washing! For full-time RVers, that's pretty huge. They also have a mail room if you need to receive a package on the road.

The resort is split up into two areas by the road, the Retreat area is more resort like and caters to short term stays, while the other half has long term stays. They both look nice and are clean and beautiful. We will continue to visit every time we pass through the area.

    Lake Park Campground

    Nice Place

This place is well-maintained and a fairly nice park. Family friendly and there is a lake and playground within walking distance. The staff is courteous. We did not use any of the facilities, except dump station.

There are specific sites for 30 and 50. The middle spaces for 30 amp have no shade. For 50 amp avoid sites 59-63, 0 shade. There are no sewer hookups at the site. Only dumping station.

Reservations is done by calling the park, no online.

    Traders Village RV Park

    Clean and big

We stayed 4 nights in site 24, PT FHU on a level concrete pad with a picnic table and plot of grass. $40/ni after Good Sam. The park is split into two sections; the side we are in is next to an airfield and the other side is by a small dog run (next time, I'll request this section bc I'm traveling with my dogs). They have a store and the laundry is clean and well priced ($1.25/wash, $0.25/12 min dry). The wifi is strong and the park is quiet. There are some long term, possibly permanent, tenants, but their sites are well kept.

    Lake Tawakoni State Park Campground

    Nice state park

We don't stay at too many TX State Parks because of the added day use fee. We decided on this park due to its proximity to family in this area. The site was level and on a concrete pad with a parking spot right next to it. We did have a neighbor, so the space between us was fair. Our cell signal with Verizon was poor, so it made work difficult. Our site had W/E and there is a dump station. We did have a picnic table and fire ring. There are some sites that back up to a part of the lake. Noise level was pretty low. Unfortunately, we only spent 1 full day here, so we didn't really get to enjoy any of the hiking trails or do any fishing. We will definitely have to stay again in the future.

Guide to Princeton

Princeton area RV parks offer varying experiences for travelers seeking short and long-term accommodations in northeast Texas. Located approximately 40 miles from Dallas, these facilities provide convenient access to Lake Lavon while maintaining proximity to urban amenities. Winter temperatures typically range from 34°F to 56°F, while summer months often exceed 90°F with high humidity.

What to do

Lake activities nearby: Sugar Hill RV Resort provides access to recreational opportunities around Lake Lavon, where fishing for catfish, crappie, and bass remains popular year-round. "The staff is incredible and very nice! Lots of long timers, makes for a quieter vibe," notes one camper at Sugar Hill RV Resort.

Day trips to McKinney: Many RV sites near Princeton, Texas serve as convenient bases for exploring nearby McKinney's historic downtown, located just 15 minutes west. Lafon's RV Park residents appreciate this strategic location, with one visitor noting, "We needed to do some repairs to our truck after a hell storm, we need to be around the Dallas, Garland, McKinney area, and this is a perfect location, quiet, but yet close to everything we needed."

Onsite recreation: Some Princeton RV facilities offer property amenities for guests. "They have a saltwater pool, dog park, laundry room, shower/bathrooms, trees/landscaping and access to a boat ramp," mentions a two-month resident at Patriot RV Park.

What campers like

Connectivity options: Several Princeton motorhome parks provide reliable internet access, a significant benefit for remote workers or travelers needing to stay connected. "The price is the best in the area and they give free high speed internet. They have a nice laundry room and mailboxes on site," reports a reviewer from Patriot RV Park.

Budget-friendly extended stays: Monthly rates at RV parks near Princeton compare favorably to other Dallas suburbs. "For the month in the Texas heat, our bill was about $75. It is a new park so all the utilities were functioning as they should," notes a visitor at Dove Hill RV Park, referring to electricity costs during their stay.

Quiet atmosphere: Several Princeton RV communities maintain peaceful environments suitable for longer residencies. "Very well maintained property... Lots of long timers, makes for a quieter vibe," observes a Sugar Hill RV Resort guest, highlighting the settled nature of certain parks.

What you should know

Variable site conditions: Terrain across Princeton RV accommodations ranges from well-maintained to challenging. "It appeared that the campground doesn't have any sites that approach level. It is covered solidly with rocks, not gravel and some were quite large. A few of the campers had to have their back wheels off the ground in order to get level!" cautions one Dove Hill RV Park visitor.

Reservation responsiveness differs: Communication practices vary significantly between Princeton RV parks. A frustrated potential guest at Sugar Hill RV Resort reports: "Tried calling several times (during business hours) and wrote several times, never got back to me. Finally just drove there (through the rain), calling again about 5 minutes away."

Access road quality: Road conditions to certain parks may present challenges depending on recent weather. "To get there, you travel a rough dirt road that has had some oil put on it near the few houses that are there but that stops about halfway to the site. Otherwise, it is a dusty, rough road," warns a Dove Hill RV Park reviewer.

Tips for camping with families

Seek parks with amenities: For families with children, prioritize Princeton RV parks offering recreational facilities. One visitor at Lafon's RV Park advises: "We were at the newer park, so little trees at the moment, gravel, but the staff is great, it's quiet. Nice laundry room with everything that works great."

Consider Wi-Fi reliability: Internet connectivity varies significantly between Princeton RV parks, affecting entertainment options for families. "The Wi-Fi was not good that would be my only complaint," notes a Lafon's RV Park guest, suggesting families bring alternative entertainment options or mobile hotspots.

Verify pet policies: While most Princeton RV facilities allow pets, specific restrictions exist regarding size, breed, and designated areas. "They have a saltwater pool, dog park, laundry room, shower/bathrooms," mentions one reviewer about Patriot RV Park, highlighting pet-friendly amenities worth considering.

Tips from RVers

Leveling challenges: Many Princeton RV sites require additional equipment for proper leveling. "A few of the campers had to have their back wheels off the ground in order to get level!" warns a visitor to Dove Hill RV Park, suggesting travelers bring adequate leveling blocks.

Mail service availability: For extended-stay RVers, certain Princeton parks accommodate mail delivery. "They have a nice laundry room and mailboxes on site. They offer short or long term living," notes one reviewer at Patriot RV Park.

Weather considerations: The Princeton area experiences seasonal storms requiring preparation. "We needed to do some repairs to our truck after a hell storm," mentions one Lafon's RV Park visitor, highlighting the need for storm readiness when camping in this region.
