    SUMMARY PRESENTED BYT-Mobile

Campgrounds near Helotes, Texas range from walk-in tent sites at state natural areas to full-hookup RV resorts and cabin rentals, all within 30 miles of San Antonio amenities. Government Canyon State Natural Area offers walk-in tent sites with picnic tables and fire rings, while Blazing Star Luxury RV Resort accommodates RVs, tents, and cabin rentals. The surrounding area features a mix of state parks, private RV resorts, and glamping options within a 30-mile radius. Most campgrounds in this region provide electric hookups, water access, and reservable sites, with several offering full RV hookups including sewer connections.

Camping availability varies significantly by location, with Government Canyon State Natural Area only permitting camping on Friday and Saturday nights. Many campgrounds require advance reservations, especially during peak seasons when San Antonio residents seek weekend escapes. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F, making spring and fall the most comfortable camping seasons. Visitors should be prepared for potential trail closures after rain events, particularly at Government Canyon where trail preservation is prioritized. Cell service is generally reliable throughout the area, though some locations have limited coverage. "If there is too much rain, the park will close down all the trails as they don't want to ruin the area with people walking in mud," noted one visitor describing Government Canyon's conservation approach.

The camping experience in this region offers diverse opportunities for outdoor recreation. Government Canyon State Natural Area receives positive reviews for its dinosaur tracks, extensive trail system, and relative privacy of campsites. "Each one in a little nook. They're building new bathrooms so I don't think the Johnnie on the Spot will be the only bathroom for long," shared one camper about Government Canyon. Most developed campgrounds in the area feature showers and bathroom facilities, with varying levels of maintenance. Private RV resorts typically provide additional amenities like swimming pools, laundry facilities, and on-site stores. For those seeking more seclusion, the walk-in sites at Government Canyon offer a more natural setting, though they require carrying gear from parking areas. Fire restrictions are common during dry periods, so campers should verify current regulations before arrival.

Tejas Valley RV Park & Campground

      Avoid this RV Park!

You want to see someone have a power trip? Look no further! The guy managing the place always has a problem with repair companies getting his residents fixed. Always demanding crazy things just to appease him. He’s threatened to call the cops on for not“checking in” with him, when we checked in with his wife and he just wasn’t informed.

He calls me today and tells me we can no longer provide rv repair service there because of another power trip move. Stay far away. The guy managing the place is a complete joke and so rude to everyone that comes thru there.

I hope the owner realizes why he’s getting bad reviews. It’s because of bad management. His wife is an amazing woman. It’s Greg that’s the issue. For those wanting to stay here. Stay far away. Unless you like to be micro managed on everything you do.

      River Road Camp

      Scam artist!

I recently visited this campground on July 3rd and when I got to the gate to discuss accessing the campground to meet up with a cousin who had reserved a spot I was greeted by a old Caucasian man who came off a little rude. I asked if they provide a military discount since I am in fact a disabled veteran and his response was no. Then I asked if I can just pay for a daily pass since I was only going to be there that evening and half the day the next day being the 4th of July and his response was no I can only purchase a 3 day pass at$12 per adult. Well I ended having to pay$99.62 to gain access to this campground and if you do the math 2 adults at$12 a person for 3 days does not equal$99.62. This place is a scam and take advantage of disabled military veterans! I would give this place a negative number of stars if there was that option!

      Bending Oaks Ranch RV Resort

      Trees

Bend oats has the best tree coverage of any other campground we have been too. Only on problem is that some sites have low hanging tree branches and not very many 50 amp hook ups. Other than that, beautiful place.

      Firefly Resort

Under New Management - great place!

Firefly Fly Resort is under new management and has made tremendous improvements to the property. The new Phase 3 has opened and has a new clubhouse and a new adult pool (Memorial to Labor Day adults only-the rest of the year open to all), large hot soaking tub, there’s also a second pool at the original clubhouse that has a shallow family section and adult section, new pickleball courts and a new 9-hole putting course, and a new walking path. We stayed at site#361 which we booked on Airbnb directly with the owner, and enjoyed the covered pergola with hill country views! The site had a huge outdoor TV, propane fireplace, comfortable cushioned chairs, a granite prep/serving counter, gas grill and dining table. We watched the sunrise from the site every morning! A perfect stay! The new official website is - www.fireflyhillcountry.com or call 830-999-2694 or email reservations@staytexas.com Or to book site 361 directly with the owner on Airbnb https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1689166622240134560?unique_share_id=af8278b9-b966-4e0f-aa22-45578fec4799&viralityEntryPoint=1&s=76

      San Antonio Alamo KOA

      ok campground, good location

Nice site at back of lot near walking path. Unfortunately lots of traffic noise even at back of lot due to an interstate nearby (not road in front). Did laundry- good facilities- need quarters. Decided to sit in lounge next door and read. Well a family came in with several children who were loud and running around- then they left the children there by themselves!!! (5, 6 years old) I finally had to use my teacher voice and tell them to quiet down and stop running around. This lounge should be labeled for adults- there are plenty of other spaces for children. My biggest disappointment was there was no hot water in the shower. KOA's are expensive ($100)- how can you not have hot water for the shower!!!! (and yes, I let it run for a long time). They also had nowhere that you could park your RV to take the bus into town (We were leaving that afternoon but with checkout so early we would not get back in time) so we had to drive the RV to the Alamo. There was absolutely NO RV parking downtown.
