Franklin Mountains State Park Campground and Sombra Antigua Winery also welcome pets, with the winery offering a covered outdoor tasting area where dogs are permitted. Most campgrounds in the area provide water hookups, electricity, and picnic tables at their pet-friendly sites. Gaslight Square Mobile Home & RV Park maintains relaxing grounds for pets and owners, situated conveniently on the west side of El Paso. Several campers note the facilities are clean and well-maintained, though El Paso West RV Park has received mixed reviews regarding staff interactions with guests.

Hiking trails at Franklin Mountains State Park provide pet exercise opportunities with scenic desert mountain views, though summer heat requires extra water for dogs. The Tom Mays Unit offers tent and RV camping with pavilions and fire pits at each site. Sombra Antigua Winery's camping area includes shower facilities and drinking water, creating a unique experience where pets can join owners for wine tasting events with live music on weekends. When planning visits during warmer months, early morning or evening walks are recommended for pets to avoid hot surfaces. Sites at these campgrounds fill quickly during peak seasons, with Sombra Antigua having only three bookable spots that often reach capacity, requiring advance reservations for pet owners seeking accommodations.

    Las Cruces KOA

    Nice park

We only stayed one night but this was a convenient location or far off the highway. Bathroom was clean and staff was nice. Large clean dog park. Nice views of the city. Some sites back up to the view and they also behave a path and pier pit with a view. Looks like they are making improvements to the park.

    Las Cruces KOA

Beautiful Mountain Views, Starry Skies - Wish We Could Stay Longer!

We arrived after dark to the Las Cruces KOA.  The park was about 1/2 full and the sites were spacious, clean and had both gravel and cement area for parking.  The skies at night were clear and the location of the camp, set on a hilltop, was perfect for seeing stars and the distant city lights.  During the daytime, the park has beautiful views of the mountains nearby.  Some of the sites are considered premium and they had the best mountain views and a patio area and outdoor fitpit.

The dog run area was exceptionally clean, nice and spacious for our two dog.  The dog area has a patch of grass in the middle and then surrounded by decompressed granite.  I preferred this to the dog parks that are all grass.  It was very clean and had climbing structures for the pups.  The restroom near the dog park was sparkling clean with marble floors.  I popped into the gift shop/welcome desk and there were a lot of items for sale, crafts, food items, etc.  I can see spending a longer visit here and exploring the town of Las Cruces and the nearby Medilla area wineries.  The location is convenient if you are traveling on I-10 and feels very safe and secure.

    Siesta RV Park

    Needs a refreshing

This is a small RV park just west of ElPaso. It’s older and could use some maintenance. Sites are level, but very close to. Lots of dust. (This is the desert , so maybe expected) 30/50 amp, water & sewer. Free WiFi and Cable TV No dog park. No pool There is a convenience store and grocery store.

    Hacienda RV Resort

    Hacienda RV Resort, NM

Located in Las Cruces New Mexico, Hacienda RV resort is conveniently situated right off of interstate 10. Their main office is closed currently due to COVID precautions, but they are still very accommodating. The sites are small, but have everything you need with level concrete pads and full hook ups. They have a large laundry room. Make sure you use the ones closest to the door (on the right) because they are newer and don’t leave your clothes soaking wet. The dog park is large and has several entrances- it also provides waste bags and a garbage can, which is a plus. The bathrooms are private and include a toilet and shower- clean!!

    Sunny Acres RV Park

    Downtown and safe.

Very safe campground. Large level sites. Large and clean bathrooms/showers with plenty of hot water. Nice laundry and game room. And a dog park on site. Pricing is comparable for the city. Yes the area is a little sketchy but LC PD has a video monitor at the entrance so no shenanigans allowed. Oh. And blazing fast wifi.

    Mission RV Park

    Not as expected

We checked out the website prior to booking and were planning on staying for a full week, which luckily didn’t pan out. When we checked in we were told we could only stay a night, despite having made a week-long reservation. Understandable given the circumstances, but it would’ve been prudent to inform of that fact on the website. The receptionist was helpful and gave us a number to another rv park in the proximity, which was sweet of her. The park seems to have good amenities, and there is a little dog park at the end of the lot and a pool by the office, but it is right next to a truck storage facility and right by the I10, so it isn’t the most tranquil. The website is slightly misleading, and I don’t think I would stay here more than a night or two.

Guide to Anthony

Camping options near Anthony, Texas include a mix of developed facilities and undeveloped sites within a 30-mile radius. Located in the Chihuahuan Desert region, the area experiences extreme summer temperatures often exceeding 100°F between June and August, with mild winters averaging 60°F daytime highs. Seasonal monsoon storms can occur July through September, creating flash flood conditions in desert washes and canyons.

What to do

Hiking desert terrain: Franklin Mountains State Park Campground offers varied trail experiences ranging from easy walks to challenging climbs. "Hiked to Aztec Cave. Have done Cottonwood Springs hike... ~55 yrs ago! Beautiful weather December (76°)," notes reviewer Mark M., who recommends taking hiking poles due to slippery conditions on scree-covered slopes.

Wine tasting after camp setup: Sombra Antigua Winery provides a unique camping experience with wine production onsite. "We stayed one night and really enjoyed the stay. They have a large outdoor covered wine tasting area that allows dogs. An excellent wine sampling set helped choose a good wine," writes Arthur K., who particularly appreciated the staff helping find options he enjoyed.

Mountain biking access: Sierra Vista offers access to mountain biking trails directly from camping areas. "Lots of trails to go through. Pets are welcome," says David L., highlighting the accessibility of recreational paths from the camping area. The Sierra Vista trailhead connects to extensive networks throughout the Organ Mountains.

What campers like

Desert mountain views: Aguirre Spring Recreation Area and Campground delivers panoramic vistas across the Tularosa Basin. "At night I could see so many stars, and in the morning I could see all the way across the Tularosa Basin to Lincoln National Forest, probably 80 miles away! The sunrise was awesome! I could easily see White Sands National Monument in the distance," reports Craig G.

Night sky viewing: BLM Dispersed camping areas provide excellent stargazing opportunities with minimal light pollution. "Isolated, quiet, some light pollution from Mesquite and Las Cruces," mentions Lisa S., who found the area ideal for overnight astronomy. The elevated locations away from city centers create darker viewing conditions.

Clean facilities: Las Cruces KOA maintains high standards for bathroom and shower facilities. "The showers are fabulous. The views were awesome," notes Katey B., adding "The place was spotless" in her review. The campground features marble floors in the restrooms according to multiple reviewers.

What you should know

Limited availability at some locations: Sombra Antigua Winery offers just three reservable sites. "Arrived tired and looking forward to relaxing. You can only book one of 3 sites online at hipcamp.com. All 3 sites booked," reports Dave B., who ended up finding alternative accommodations at a nearby winery.

Site limitations for larger vehicles: Franklin Mountains State Park Campground has restrictions for larger RVs. "Stayed here one night the park is very nice. Has lots of hiking trails and scenery. The rv parking is small only has 5 sites and no amenities. Be cautious if you have a big rig the spots are not very long," warns Chelsea P., who managed with a 36-foot rig for one night.

Road conditions to dispersed sites: BLM Dispersed camping areas require careful navigation. "My bus was squeaking, twisting, driving at an angle, and it was a brutal drive," explains Rick M., who still rated the location favorably for its "beautiful vistas" despite access challenges.

Tips for camping with families

Weather planning essential: Sierra Vista camping areas experience dramatic temperature shifts. "The summers are extremely hot. During monsoon season the trails can be sketchy with all the water running down. The spring has poppies covering the mountain," advises Chelsea O., highlighting the importance of seasonal planning for family safety.

Kid-friendly amenities: Fort Bliss RV Park provides family-focused facilities. "They have a large laundry mat ($1 wash, $1 dry), dog run, big grass area to play, family group hall," notes David T., making it suitable for extended stays with children. Military ID is required for access.

Swimming options during hot months: Las Cruces KOA offers pool access during summer heat. "The pool was a perfect bonus for our warm afternoon," one camper mentions, providing a way for families to cool off when temperatures climb. This amenity becomes particularly valuable during summer months when hiking may be limited to early mornings.

Tips from RVers

Water pressure considerations: Hacienda RV Resort has notably high water pressure. "Staff is friendly and let us know water pressure is high so use a reducer," advises Mark M., emphasizing the need to protect RV plumbing systems. The reviewer also notes the park offers secure bike storage during office hours due to reported thefts in the area.

Varying hookup configurations: Fort Bliss RV Park offers consistent full hookups. "Every site is paved and level. Most are pull thru as well," reports Glen M., noting the absence of internet or cable at sites. The proximity to downtown El Paso makes this pet-friendly camping area convenient for supply runs.

Overnight security: Las Cruces KOA provides well-lit grounds with staff presence. "We planned for one night but stayed three," reports one reviewer, citing the safety factor as a key reason for extending their stay. The park's location just off I-10 balances accessibility with sufficient distance from highway noise.
