Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Pigeon Forge, TN

Clabough's Campground features pet-friendly accommodations for tent campers, RV travelers, and cabin guests in Pigeon Forge. Pets are welcome throughout the year at this well-maintained property on Wears Valley Road, with clean facilities including two pools and a lazy river. Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg KOA Campground also accepts pets and provides full hookups with 50-amp service, making it suitable for larger RVs with pets. Camp Riverslanding offers cabin options for those traveling with pets who prefer more substantial accommodations than tents. The bath houses at these facilities remain consistently clean despite the volume of guests with animals.

Dog-friendly hiking trails in Great Smoky Mountains National Park connect to several of the pet-friendly campgrounds around Pigeon Forge, though pets must stay on leash and are prohibited from certain wilderness trails. Creekside RV Park provides convenient trolley access to main attractions while accommodating pets, allowing owners to explore Pigeon Forge without moving their vehicles. Summer temperatures in this region can reach uncomfortable levels for pets, requiring owners to ensure adequate shade and water at campsites. Several campgrounds provide designated pet relief areas away from swimming facilities and children's play zones. The large parking area at Cracker Barrel in Pigeon Forge serves as an occasional overnight option for self-contained RVs with pets when campgrounds are fully booked, offering quiet overnight stays with minimal road noise.

    Clabough's Campground

Calyboughs Campground in Pigeon Forge, Tn

I really enjoyed this campground. It had a-lot of things for the kids including 2 pools, a small lazy river and a bounce pillow. It had a trolley stop in the middle of the campground that would take you to Pigeon Forge or Gatlingurg for 50 cents. The bath house was very clean and had doors rather than curtains which were a big plus. Its a half mile from Pigeon Forge so its easily walked. The only bad thing is that the camp sites are very close together, some literally a few feet from others.

Buddy Bear In The Smokies Campground

    Perfect location and beautifully kept!

Very clean and beautifully decorated campground located on the backside of Sevierville away from all those crowds on the main strip. Check in was simple, owners are very attentive, and grounds are beautifully kept. There’s laundry on site, and ice-firewood-charcoal are readily available all hours of the day and night. There are hammocks and swings on the riverbank for anyone to enjoy and during the summer campers get an hour of tubing or kayaking in the Little Pigeon River as part of their reservation. Campground is just about a 10 minute drive from Pigeon Forge or Dollywood. Road noise is a little loud from our campsite, but other than that it’s perfect. We’ll definitely stay here again!

    Sherman Oaks Campground

    Ruff around the edges

We stopped for 3 nights as we were heading south to Florida and wanted to see Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg and due to the time of the year, everything around those areas were booked. Well the pics Passport America has of this place is no doubt when it was first built. I guess from talking with the campground personal this place has recently been bought and is under rebuilding. There is plenty that needs done. When we arrived we had to call the other campground that books this place as well to get someone over to us. There was an office but looked like no one been in there for some time. There is a pool close to the road, somewhat clean, water was clear. The campground itself had some annuals as well as others that were there for a month or two ( working in the area ) I have to say they were very friendly and helpful getting someone to us to help. Mind you we came in with 3 rigs all over 32'. Power and location was sketchy. We had no issues to speak of for the 3 days and in the evening, even near Interstate 40 it was quiet enough. Hopefully the new owners can get things back in order. Its only 30 minutes from Pigeon forge.

Laundry available, just a couple machines. Bathhouse, yes but.......

    Pigeon Forge RV Resort

    New name

This campground is now named Pigeon Forge RV park. Everything looks brand new. Very nice facilities and campground. Onsite laundry, showers, heater saltwater pool with slide, dog park, store, pizza place, daily trash pickup, very stable wifi you can stream with. Spots are a little tight to back into, but the staff will help you get backed in if needed. Very friendly people. Highly recommend if your traveling to the Pigeon Forge area. Only a few minute drive off the main strip of Pigeon Forge

    Up the Creek RV Camp

Great Place Just Off The Beaten Path

Up the Creek RV Camp is a great little RV camp just down the way from bustling Pigeon Forge. The sites are decently sized, with picnic tables, fire rings and cement pads for basic sites, and tables and chairs with larger fire pits at premium sites. There are no tent pads or bath houses, it is truly and RV campground. There is a small dog park, two creeks (wadable) and lots of peace and quiet. We stayed for a week and were impressed by both the staff and the guests friendliness and helpfulness.

    Clabough's Campground

    Great location

Beautiful location on the creek. It's near everything in Pigeon Forge but feels much more secluded. The thing that makes this campground stand out are the ducks. There are ducks everywhere. They will walk right up to your camper door and wait for you. They will eat out of your hand as well. Amenities include dog park, swimming pool, game room, and lazy river. There were alot of of renovations going on here when we went (during Covid-19). The place is going to look amazing when completed. One problem with this place is that it seems to have too much gravel and not enough grass. Alot of campsites don't have any grass at all. There are some dog bag stations throughout. Some pot holes too. I would suggest some repaving next.

Guide to Pigeon Forge

Pigeon Forge sits at an elevation of approximately 1,000 feet in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, creating a mild four-season climate ideal for year-round camping. The surrounding terrain features rolling hills and river valleys with the Little Pigeon River flowing through many local campgrounds. Winter nights can drop below freezing while summer temperatures regularly reach the mid-80s with moderate humidity.

What to do

River tubing access: The Little Pigeon River runs through several campgrounds including Greenbrier Campground, where "the tubing was fun for the older kids and adults" according to Elizabeth B. Most river access points feature smooth river rocks and moderate water flow suitable for supervised children.

Historic sites exploration: The former vacation community at Elkmont offers a glimpse into early 20th century mountain life. "Once you've set up camp, walk or drive down the road toward the Little River and Jakes Creek trails... and you'll find yourself at the end of a road lined with assorted cottages and cabins that used to be vacation homes. Some are open for exploration," notes Jean C.

Seasonal wildlife viewing: Visit Cades Cove Campground during early morning or evening hours for optimal wildlife spotting. "I have never seen more black bear. It was a very safe distance we watched them about a football field away across a field pretty amazing experience," reports Ashley Y. The 11-mile loop road through Cades Cove valley provides numerous viewing opportunities.

What campers like

Private bathroom facilities: Many campers appreciate individual bathroom setups at Townsend-Great Smokies KOA, where the "bath house, laundry facility, game room with one game... and nicely landscaped" amenities receive frequent praise from visitors like Katie C.

Riverfront camping spots: Sites backing up to water are highly sought after. "We had a spot on the river and it was very relaxing. The campground feels homey and everyone was friendly," writes Charlie S. about Camp Riverslanding. These sites typically cost $5-15 more per night but provide direct water access.

Well-maintained grounds: Regular upkeep makes a significant difference in camper satisfaction. At Up the Creek RV Camp, "within a few minutes of checking out, groundskeepers are Johnny on the spot with a weed eater, leaf blower, and a bucket to shovel your fire out for the next camper," according to Michael W.

What you should know

Reservation requirements: Many campgrounds fill quickly, especially during summer and fall color season. "Make your reservations far in advance this is a destination!" advises Ashley Y. about Cades Cove Campground. Most sites can be booked 6-12 months ahead.

Traffic considerations: The main routes through Pigeon Forge experience significant congestion, particularly during summer weekends and holidays. "The scenic drive increases congestion and traffic," notes Kim L. about the popular Cades Cove area, which can add 30+ minutes to travel times during peak periods.

Site spacing variations: Campground density varies significantly throughout the region. At Buddy Bear In The Smokies Campground, "all paved sites, lots of amenities, on the water and the hosts/owners are the best! Beautiful campground. Not much shade because it's all brand new," observes Karen P. Expect closer spacing at locations nearer to town attractions.

Tips for camping with families

Water feature access: Kids particularly enjoy campgrounds with swimming areas. "The swimming hole was a blessing during the hot days! (Think ice bucket challenge). The tubing was fun for the older kids and adults," shares Elizabeth B. about Greenbrier Campground. Most water activities are seasonal from late May through early September.

Evening entertainment options: Many campgrounds offer organized activities after dinner hours. "They have a really nice dog park where owners could unleash their pets and let them roam a little. In spite of this, dog barking seemed to be kept in check," notes Erin H., highlighting the pet-friendly atmosphere at Greenbrier.

Location proximity tradeoffs: Consider the balance between amenities and natural setting. At Elkmont Campground, "stayed here many times and is my favorite campground in the Smoky Mountains. Great location with easy access to Gatlinburg but secluded as well," writes Tyler M. Sites closer to town offer convenience while park locations provide more nature immersion.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling considerations: Many campgrounds in mountainous areas require leveling blocks. At Up the Creek RV Camp, "sites are all very level and most are large enough for bigger rigs. A few spots do have trees that make it tight backing in," observes Michael W. Bring extra leveling equipment for sites along creeks or hillsides.

Hookup variations: Full-service sites aren't universal throughout the area. "This is one of the nicest RV Parks in the Dollywood area IF you don't need a bathhouse, toilet, swimming pool, etc. The sites are some of the largest in the area," notes Richard S. about Up the Creek RV Camp, which lacks bathroom facilities for RV campers.

Pet-friendly considerations: For those seeking pet friendly camping near Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, many campgrounds welcome animals with specific restrictions. "There is a small dog park where owners could unleash their pets and let them roam a little. In spite of this, dog barking seemed to be kept in check," reports Erin H. about Greenbrier Campground. Most locations require leashes under 6 feet and proof of vaccinations.
