    Great KOA

This KOA is kinda outside of anything which is nice. It is quiet and has a dog park for your pets which is awesome. The bathrooms were clean and the people who checked us in were super nice. I loved the little fast food place they had too. That was very convenient for us.

    Sleepy Hollow Campground

    Nice RV stop

We stopped at Sleepy Hollow after a days worth of driving & visiting Wall. Spots are pretty close together but does have green space between. Nice small playground & swing. Dog park area.

    Best one yet

This campground just seems like home. We arrived and followed a worker down into our lot. They are nice pull through lots with more than enough space between each lot. Shower are well kept. We were put next to the playground which was busy with kids until 8 then it got quiet. Dog park was a great addition!

Cedar Pass Campground — Badlands National Park

    Clean and Quiet

Stayed one night in a converted Sprinter while traveling through South Dakota, we needed a place with showers.

The showers and restrooms were pay to use, with a single curtain as privacy. (Men's and women's separate rooms of course) They were clean for a public shower, definitely wear shower shoes! The only complaint was the women's showers did not have working lights.

The site itself was clean and decently level.

We rolled in after sunset and left before sunrise, so we did not have any views. FYI if walking around in the dark be careful where you step as there's hidden mud holes that will ruin your shoes.

    Sage Creek Campground

    Easy, breezy, beautiful

The other reviewers had it right. Sage Creek is a sweet little spot within Badlands National Park. Definitely pay your park entrance fee! BUT it’s true - this spot is completely free. Lots of people dig this spot. Doesn’t feel too crowded though. Tons of tents, vans, and car campers fit into this somewhat small but open space. Bison are common visitors. Plus, there is a prairie dog town right in the center of the loop the road creates in the camp. They are so fascinating to watch! There are two basic but clean restrooms. Several pic nic tables with small shade shelters. A nearby creek for water filtering / road trip baths. Make sure to bring lots of water or a filter people! We saw folks asking around for extra water. Be prepared. Definitely would highly recommend for anyone traveling through South Dakota. Badlands National Park is so unique and so special.

Guide to Interior

Badlands Hotel & Campground accommodates pets at all 80 tent, RV, and cabin sites just one mile south of Badlands National Park. The campground features full hookup sites, water and electric sites, and primitive tent camping areas where pets can stay with their owners. Leashed dogs are welcome throughout the property, with a designated pet walking area in the grassy loop trail at the back of the campground. The sites are fairly level with picnic tables and above-ground fire rings, though the campground gets quite windy at times which may require extra attention when camping with pets. Staff may restrict fire usage during high wind conditions for safety. Pets are allowed to run off-leash in the designated trail areas behind the property, making this a popular option for travelers with energetic dogs.

Buffalo Gap National Grassland provides multiple dispersed camping options where dogs are welcome to join their owners in exploring the rugged landscape. Several free boondocking areas including Buffalo Gap Dispersed Camping, The Wall Boondocking Dispersed, and Badlands Boondocking Area all permit pets with proper supervision. These areas lack facilities such as water, electricity, or designated pet waste stations, so campers should pack all necessary supplies for their animals. The sites can experience extreme weather conditions including sudden thunderstorms with high winds that have damaged tents in the past. Morning provides the best opportunity for wildlife viewing with pets, though owners should remain vigilant for rattlesnakes which are common in the grasslands. The campground keeps grass short specifically to reduce snake encounters near campsites.
