Ryerson Station State Park Campground offers several pet-friendly sites across its renovated 35-site campground. Pets are allowed in both the tent camping areas and at the cabins, with standard leash requirements throughout the park. Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA welcomes pets with designated walking areas, though some campers note the sites are quite close together with limited privacy for those camping with dogs. Pine Cove Beach Club RV Resort provides pet-friendly RV sites with full hookups, maintaining clean grounds that accommodate dog walkers. Camp Sherwin, despite some map location confusion, features pet-friendly camping options with fishing access that dogs and owners can enjoy together. Most campgrounds in the region maintain standard pet policies requiring leashes no longer than 6 feet, proper waste disposal, and pets never being left unattended.

The hiking trails accessible directly from Ryerson Station's campground provide excellent dog walking opportunities, with mushroom hunters frequently bringing their canine companions along seasonal foraging trips. The bathhouse facilities at most pet-friendly campgrounds are well-maintained and modern, making longer stays with pets more comfortable. Many campgrounds feature fire rings with built-in grills where campers can prepare meals while their dogs rest nearby. Indian Meadows Campground offers basic amenities for tent and RV campers with pets at reasonable rates, with sites available for around $17 per night for tent camping. When planning a camping trip with dogs in this region, visitors should note that cell service can be limited at the more remote locations like Ryerson Station, making emergency veterinary access potentially challenging in some areas.

      Raccoon Creek State Park Campground

      Pet friendly campsite, with electric

While most of the campgrounds in the park are no pets- there are 2 loops that allow your furry companions! Loop F includes electric spots! Loved seeing the 'neighbors' dogs get excited and curious when I walked my 4-legged best friend around the site. Clean area , close to a modern bathroom (a few stalls & even 2 showers!) Looking forward to going back at the end of the month.

      Awesome staff!

Very conveniently located off the interstate. Follow the signs to the campground NOT the GPS in order to avoid some narrow and sharp turn roads. Staff were super friendly! Front desk staff were knowledgeable and and helpful. We had some issues with our power, and Larry was at our site within minutes to fix it. Big open dog park! There are only a few shaded spots. Spot width was a little narrow where we stayed (on the hill), but perfect for a quick overnight stay. Bathrooms were fairly clean, laundry was nice. The pool looked very well maintained.

      Raccoon Creek State Park Campground

Let a Local Give You The Scoop!

In the past 5 years, I've made 13 trips to Raccoon Creek State Park and spent 16 nights in a tent there. It is my local state park and I can tell you lots about it.

The D loop is really great tent camping at Raccoon Creek State Park. It's tents only, no RVs. So it gets a really fun, party vibe on Saturday nights during the summer. There's a trail right to the beach near the D loop, so it's a great place for families to go with pets. The sites are big, wooded, and all close to the bathroom.

The C loop, however, doesn't take pets (which stinks). When we have our dogs with us, we gravitate towards the C loop. It's fine, but it's not as fun as the D loop.

When we don't make a reservation and we have our dog, we end up in the F loop. It's not our preference (but--let's be clear--even the worst site in the F loop is better than NO trip!).

      Swallow Falls State Park Campground

      Beautiful Hike

The kids had so much fun playing in the water we didn’t have time to hike and see all of it. We spent time in Swallow Falls as well as neighboring Herrington Manor state park where they have a “beach” for swimming and boat and SUP rentals. The prices for rentals were very reasonable and the concession stand was cheap!!! 2.50 for large fries, $1 snow cones, it was nice to splurge on snacks and not drop a small fortune.

We stayed at the camp ground in swallow falls in a pop up camper. The camp ground was quiet and well maintained though it is more suitable for tents and not trailers or RV’s. The bathrooms were decent for public bathhouses, they were cleaned daily but the were outdated. I would definitely come back but maybe with a tent next time and not the trailer. The camp store had the necessities at fair prices. Firewood is sold for $4 a bundle.

We did have a pet friendly site reserved but found out after we arrived that dogs are not allowed out of the campground. In order to hike with our dog we had to access the trail just outside the state park. This would have been nice information to have before arriving with our pet. Pets are allowed within the park Labor Day through Memorial Day.

      Raccoon Creek State Park Campground

Great outdoor getaway from the city life!

I started camping at Raccoon back in the 60's as a little person with my family. Hadn't been for several decades, but finally got back with my husband and cats the past couple of years. Great park ony a 1/2 hour outside of Pittsburgh. The campground has something for everyone - RV sites with electric (although I wouldn't recommend bringing your 40' rig...sites can be a tad on the smaller side) or secluded sites just for tenting. Restrooms are clean and well maintained. Two loops allow pets F and B, but only some sites in F have electric, so be sure to check if that is what you need. There are many hiking trails that are not too strenuous or you can take a 10 mile trip around the lake. Lots of birds for viewing, particularly near the beach. You can put in your kayak or fish on the shore at the fairly large lake. Boats do require a launch pass which you can obtain from the park office. And don't miss the Wildflower Preserve if you are there in May or late summer! Great place to take the family and relax in nature!

Kentuck Campground — Ohiopyle State Park

      Ok for a quick overnight

Due to a water main break, only one bathroom and showers were available. Bathrooms were quite old and run down. There are over 100 sites. Pets are only allowed on specific loops and cannot be walked on “non pet” loops. We had an electric site which was pretty level for our van. Bike trails were more like hiking trails ( not single track Mtn biking trails). I found this park to be “just ok”.

      Glade Farms Campground

      Quiet place to rest

We headed to ride the trails at big bear lake camplands and booked here considering a recent outbreak of covid at the lake. The on call staff met us at the gated community and helped us get situated on a shaded lot. Very nice and quiet with mostly seasonal or permanent snowbirds. Small pond/lake on the property and plenty of shade. The lot was a challenge to be centered and level which led to us exiting our camper downhill. The water access was in ground and I cant imagine a camping couple that's well beyond retirement finding that convenient but it didn't impact us. Pet friendly and large lots. Bathhouse was closed due to covid. No firewood at this campground to purchase but fire ring provided and picnic tables.

    Guide to Morrisville

Camping options near Morrisville, Pennsylvania span several counties in southwestern Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia. The region features rolling hills with elevations ranging from 800 to 1,500 feet, creating varied terrain for both wooded and open campsites. Cell service varies dramatically between campgrounds, with reception particularly limited in more remote areas like Coopers Rock State Forest during winter months.

    What to do

Mushroom hunting opportunities: At Ryerson Station State Park Campground, many visitors enjoy foraging for wild mushrooms. "I went down to pick some Morrell and shantrels mushrooms, they were everywhere, many of the mushrooms didnt even require us to leave the path!" notes reviewer Jill R. The park's trails provide easy access to mushroom hunting grounds.

Rock climbing adventures: Coopers Rock State Forest offers accessible climbing routes for various skill levels. "I have been going her for years and I always love to climb this area. The pitches arent too high (50ft) but great just to get out there an enjoy life!" shares Nick P. The climbing areas are located near the main overlook.

Water recreation options: The area offers both natural and constructed water features. Ohiopyle State Park recently added a swimming pool. One camper reports, "The pool and splash area were very nice! There is a playground down near the pool area, basic but nice." Many parks have invested in water facilities to replace former lake attractions.

    What campers like

Newly renovated facilities: Kentuck Campground — Ohiopyle State Park has undergone significant upgrades. "This is a very nice campground. Plan your meals well, before arriving. There are a couple of restaurants in Ohiopyle, but they are not open late," advises Robert C. The renovated sites provide more space between campers.

Pet-friendly hiking trails: Beyond standard pet policies, many trails accommodate dogs. One visitor to Coopers Rock noted, "Many hiking trails of all sizes and kept clear. My dog is mostly weenie dog, and his little legs made it everywhere." Trails throughout the region provide various terrain options for pets of different sizes.

Clean, modern bathhouses: Campgrounds prioritize bathroom maintenance. At Ryerson Station, "The bathhouse looked to be new or remodeled. It was very clean and nice. Laundry is available but we did not use." Well-maintained facilities make longer stays with pets more comfortable, especially during rainy weather.

    What you should know

Limited cell service: Remote locations mean unpredictable connectivity. At Pine Cove Beach Club RV Resort, you'll find "close to the highway but no road noise." Meanwhile, at Ryerson Station, "There is NO Verizon service at the campground. We walked up to the amphitheater and were able to get out a few texts but no looking at the radar."

Steep access roads: Several campgrounds have challenging approaches. At Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA, reviewers warn about "very steep narrow roads to access campground and sites." For RVs, one visitor advises: "Follow the signs to the campground NOT the GPS in order to avoid some narrow and sharp turn roads."

Seasonal closures and construction: Always check current status before booking. One camper at Mylan Park discovered unexpected activity: "In another pavilion 500 yards away there was a rave. Hundreds of people listening to Electronic Dance Music that went on til 2am." Call ahead to verify operating hours and potential events.

    Tips for camping with families

Easy biking options: Mylan Park provides "Fields & Grassy area adjacent. Good for kids biking & running around." The open areas allow younger riders to practice safely away from traffic and steep terrain.

Pet-friendly swimming: Several campgrounds allow supervised pets at water features. Heath T. notes that Pine Cove Beach Club has a "pool & concession stand, beautifully maintained lawns and gravel campsites." Some locations have designated pet swimming areas separate from human zones.

Playground access: Campsites with play structures help keep children entertained. At Coopers Rock, "There is a playground for the kids and plenty of room for them to play." Sites with central playgrounds allow parents to supervise from nearby campsites.

    Tips from RVers

Hookup locations: At Washington-Pittsburgh SW KOA, "Front desk staff were knowledgeable and helpful. We had some issues with our power, and Larry was at our site within minutes to fix it." Bring extra-long utility hoses, as connection points vary between sites.

Level sites: Many campgrounds in the region feature uneven terrain. One camper noted, "A dozen or so of the sites are not level, not only that but they are narrow and where you sit is a slope making it very uncomfortable." Bring additional leveling blocks, especially for larger rigs.

Dump station access: For pet-friendly camping near Morrisville, Pennsylvania, waste management is important. At Mylan Park, campers recommend: "bring your long sewer tube, I used 3 x15' as it's at the tail of the spot." Some campgrounds offer full hookups while others have central dump stations.
