I grew up here.

Well, honestly I love this place. I grew up in the Ohio valley and I love living here. I used to have a large family when I was young and we would get together here and rent out large portions of lots and all the kids would play on the trails and flash light tag at night. There is a section for horses and bridle trails for them as well, with one large trail that circles the entire encampment. There are play grounds, basketball courts, a beach. Fishing is good and you can rent kayaks and boats. There are bathrooms and showers which were recently replaced with brand new facilities. There is even a little store where you can buy snacks, camping gear and even rent corn hole boards. I have a lot of good memories at this place. I think you would, too.

Great place-all around!

This campground was great. Priced well. Amenities. Nice site sizes. And so many options. Cute little store.

Peaceful

Enjoyed a couple nights. Limited use of the campground during our visit, so we enjoyed peace and quiet. Trees and undercover between sites to give some privacy. Easy towing our 28’ tow behind in and out. Verizon signal not bad.

Relax close to home

We had a great weekend trip at Barkcamp. Easy to get to from the highway. Some of the spots are a little tight if you have any slides but are generous in length for the spot. Included a fire ring and paved area for picnic table. Super animal friendly.

Clean and well cared for campground

Grounds are well cared for. Some sites have some topography to deal with, but livable. Pit toilets are dated but they work. Shower house does not have toilets. Staff are awesome!

Only here 1 night

We were ready to stop for the night and looked on The Dyrt for something close. Very easy to get to. Not far off the highway. Only problem was lady making our reservation didn't give us a long enough site. We found an empty site that would work. Will stop again as it's a place we pass by often in travels. State Parks are nice to stay in. October so not as crowded We stayed in the horse section. No problem at all.

Nice drive through residential farms, beautiful views . The state park, has a mini golf course, lake, archery, equestrian sites electric, full hook up , elite sites, primitive tent sites etc. It was about $25 and a $6 reservation fee. Call or do online. They had showers and vault toilets far over 100 sites and a general store.

Easy off the highway stopover

This was a nice place to stop for a few days on my drive west into Ohio. I knew nothing about the campground prior to this visit. My next time I will stay in camping area B or C now that I have seen the layout. There is no hiking trail to the lake unless you use a horse trail which I did. If you do this prepare to get muddy.

Not that great

It was one of the worst camping experiences I’ve had. I was traveling and I called ahead and paid for my site before arriving. Upon arrival the people at the site next to us had their two tents set up on our site, and they were not there. After contacting the campground host and about an hour and fifteen minutes ODNR showed up just as the campers did. We ended up getting a few more people together to move their tents. Not the biggest deal, but very inconvenient. Later that night 12:20am the campers across from us had a class b pull in and we’re not courteous to others. ( lights and noise of the procedure) the neighbor had a louder car she left in at 1:20am to return 30 minutes later. There were drunk people being loud into the morning….. I was looking for a quiet safe place to sleep for the night. It was not so quiet… the campground host was great! A lot of un level sites. Horse camp was going on in the back section as well. The horse smells were smelly. We will just say that. Called to complain and got a sorry. Responded to email survey, waiting to see if they respond. I would never stay here again nor would I recommend anyone staying here.

Okay place to stay

As other reviewers have said, many of the campsites were not level, we were hoping that was only an issue with the RV sites and we'd be okay at the tent sites, but our spot, 122, was on a slope. We set up with our heads at the highest point of the slope and ended up having our sleeping mats slip down to the other end of our tent by morning. Most of the other tent sites didn't look any better. Bathrooms are pit toilets, didn't check the shower house at all, hand sanitizer was out in the women's bathroom luckily we had our own. No issues with the staff or other campers, the park seems nice but the lake is underwhelming. Liked being far away from the main road and it was nice and quiet.

November camping was bad

We stayed here November 21, 2020 (in the midst of Covid).

The campground had no water hookups, about 90% of the sites were not level (and....I mean by A LOT).

We were one of the only people in the campground, so we ended up just moving to one of the more level campgrounds.

It's a cute campground, but a lot of the RV spots are unlevel up a hill, so backing in would be a hassle. Wouldn't stay here again.

An amazing campground.

There's trails for horseback riding (your own), fishing areas, kayak area, with nice padded sites.

Old Barn and Cabin

The camp store is an old log cabin so instantly I liked this park. This is set up with a whole section for horse camping with tie outs and trailer/truck sites. Lots of bridle trails and a really quiet park. Also a nice dam and beach area. One of the only parks we have stayed at that offers a place to put your recycling. Normally we take it home so it still gets recycled. They have a putt putt course but it’s really dated and not kept up. This didn’t bother us but some might use it. They also had a nice place to launch boats in the campground.

Small, cute, a-ok

This is a smaller state park. There is a lake (one of the smallest I've seen in a state park), some trails and a small campground. The spaces are pretty spread out, which is very nice. There is a big equestrian camping area, which is cool. If you kayak, you could spend about two hours exploring the different bends in the lake.

We stayed in the camper cabins, which are right at the edge of the campground- we could hear the freeway (I-70) the entire time. It even woke us up at night. The cabins have a view of the dumpsters and the dump station- not the prettiest view.

There are pit toilets, which are never great, but the ones nearest us had newish buildings, the first I've seen in Ohio state parks. The buildings themselves were clean, but the toilets were icky and needed to be hosed down. I never went in the shower house so I don't know if it was clean or not.

The worst part about our experience was that there was a group of cows somewhere nearby that were moaning in distress all of Saturday, Saturday night and Sunday morning. I enjoy agricultural sounds- the sound of a cow mooing every once in a while would make me happy. But these cows were bleating and moaning as if they were in danger. When it continued after sundown, I started worrying about them, so I googled it. It turns out that in the mid fall (when we were there), calves get taken away from their mothers, and the mothers will cry out in distress for days at a time. I wish I hadn't googled it. The sound was SO LOUD and so distressing. It drowned out any sound of owls or coyotes or anything else all night long- these cows were deafening.

So, I won't be back. Not much to do there once you've seen it, unless you camp with your horses- then I think it would be good.

Southeastern Ohio

The state park is on the smaller side and a few updates are needed but, this campground was really sweet.  The updates needed bathrooms, the pads need to be slightly wider, maybe an overflow lot.  Vault type toilets, the pad was narrow so you had to pay attention when exiting the camper, most of the site are on a hill...there are a handful flatter spaces.  Now the good you can camp along with your horses.  First camp we’ve been to with horses along side of your camper.  Very cool!  The trails are mostly for all horses, humans, and snowmobiles.  With the rain we’ve had this spring (19’) trails very muddy and challenging at spots we loved it.
