Riverfront Campground provides designated pet areas along the Susquehanna River for dogs to cool off during summer camping trips. Pets are welcome at most campsites in the Marysville region, with Harrisburg East Campground and Hersheypark Camping Resort offering specific pet-friendly accommodations. The train tracks near Hersheypark Camping Resort can create noise issues for dogs sensitive to loud sounds, as trains run throughout the night. Campgrounds typically require pets to remain on leash at all times, with designated waste stations available. Most sites feature fire rings, picnic tables, and access to bathhouses, creating comfortable spaces for both pets and their owners.

Lower Allen Community Park's three tent sites sit right along the Yellow Breeches Creek, providing excellent kayaking opportunities with dogs. The surrounding area offers numerous hiking trails suitable for leashed pets, including paths through Little Buffalo State Park and Gifford Pinchot State Park. Both KOA locations—Elizabethtown-Hershey and Jonestown/Hershey—maintain pet-friendly policies with some breed restrictions. The parks lock at dusk, so evening dog walks require planning ahead. Spring Run Park and Mt. Allen Park near the Mechanicsburg area provide additional green spaces for exercising dogs between camping adventures. While primitive camping options exist, most pet-friendly sites offer at least basic amenities like picnic tables and fire rings, with many providing electric hookups and water access points for pet hydration needs.

      Amazing campground!

We stayed for 10 days in a rustic cabin. Campground is well organized and clean. Tons of activities and even a hiking path. Pet friendly with small dog park. We had civil war soldiers drilling and staying the weekend we were there. Bathrooms are super clean.

      Beautiful Campground

Clean and well kept campground located 12 mile below Lewistown, Pa. As clean a campground as you will find. Staff is super friendly. Campground has two distinct levels with open spaces with few trees above and well shaded spots with large trees for shade located down along Juniata River. Great place for fishing, tubing or just getting wet. Campground has many activities for kids. On site is a pool, winery, dog park, office/supplies located in center of campground. WiFi is available to all. Nearly all full hook-ups with back-ins and pull-thrus available. Pets allowed. 42 mile South from State College and 48 mile North of Harrisburg on Rt 322. Highly recommend!

      Artillery Ridge Campground

      Great location and friendly staff

We have a motorhome with no additional vehicle and two dogs, and this site couldn’t have been more perfect for us. A dog park, walking distance to most everything we wanted to see. The national park is mostly dog friendly. My husband caught a fish first day in the pond behind our site. The staff was super friendly and welcoming.

      Gifford Pinchot State Park Campground

Wish I stayed there under different circumstances.

The rangers were nice and the campground hosts were sweet. I liked the dish washing sinks outside of the shower houses. The site was nice with the tent pad backing up to the trees. I would rather sleep in a tent any night over a motel room but this time was different. Due to my father passing, me and my daughter stayed there 3 nights. I will be back another time to actually enjoy the lake and being between Lancaster and Gettysburg makes both places easy to access. Next time I will be getting a site away from the group area. It was nice that the pet area is separate from those of us who don't have pets or want quiet from dogs barking. Some of the groups can get rather loud especially when there are a bunch of teens. Quiet and Friendly Staff

Clean well kept family owned campground. Located a few miles off 81, in the country surrounded by beautiful views. It’s a mix campground of seasonal campers and short term campers. Very family oriented. Very nice off leash fenced dog park.

      Great campground! Lots of fun

We loved it here. It accommodates a large family reunion with plenty of space. The campground was well populated but we didn’t feel cramped at all. Super dog friendly. Many little dog parks throughout. Great pool.

Nice campground with well taken care of sites. There is a pond to fish from, a dog park for your furry friend to play at and a few playgrounds for the kids.

      Twin Grove RV Resort

      Beautiful Campground

This is an amazing campground! There are 2 dog parks right next to each other, which is great for your furry friend to be able to run around and play off leash. And for the kids there is an arcade, a ferris wheel and some other rides. On Saturday nights they usually have a band playing on the stage which is really neat. There is also a ice cream place to get a nice cold treat. The RV spots are really nice and well kept.

    Guide to Marysville

Camping sites near Marysville, Pennsylvania sit along the banks of the Susquehanna River at elevations between 340-500 feet. Spring and fall bring moderate temperatures in the 60-70°F range, while summer camping can reach the mid-90s with high humidity. Many campgrounds in this region offer riverfront sites with natural shade from mature hardwood trees, creating respite from summer heat.

    What to do

Fishing from shore: At Gifford Pinchot State Park Campground, campers access multiple fishing spots along Pinchot Lake. "We caught a handful of bass and an absurd amount of bluegill from shore," reports one visitor who notes rangers regularly check fishing licenses.

Creek tubing: At Lower Allen Community Park, three tent sites sit directly on Yellow Breeches Creek. "You can put in a few miles up and float down to your site. There is parking right there," explains a reviewer who appreciates this lesser-known option for water activities.

Hiking local trails: Little Buffalo State Park offers numerous hiking trails with varying difficulty levels. "There are trails with some neat little obstacles to work out on and the historical mill was well worth the trip," notes a camper who appreciated both the physical activity and historical elements.

    What campers like

Clean facilities: Jonestown/Hershey KOA maintains exceptionally clean bathrooms. "Bathrooms were very clean as well, though kind of far from these sites," mentions a visitor who appreciated the cleanliness despite the distance from tent sites.

Level sites with privacy: Elizabethtown-Hershey KOA offers spacious sites separated by trees. "Our site was level, shaded and quite large. Almost every site in this section was similarly large and wooded, with an impressive amount of space between sites for a KOA," notes a camper who was pleasantly surprised by the layout.

River access: Ferryboat Campsites provides direct Susquehanna River access. "We enjoyed our stay here — but mostly because we liked being right on the water. If it weren't for that this would not be the campground for us," shares a reviewer who spent time tubing, fishing and kayaking directly from their site.

    What you should know

Limited tent site availability: While RV sites are plentiful, tent-only sites can be limited. At Little Buffalo State Park Campground, a reviewer notes: "This is a small campground but worth going to. Very nice park and clean bath house."

Park closure timing: Several parks lock their gates at specific times. Lower Allen Community Park "locks the park at dusk," according to a camper, requiring planning for evening activities.

Weather considerations: Flash flooding can occur after heavy rain. One visitor to Ferryboat Campsites warns: "Storms with heavy rain in the area made the river rise. We were told the campground is susceptible to flooding, so check the weather when you come!"

Noise levels: Train tracks and highways create noise at several dog-friendly campgrounds near Marysville. "The train does run right near all night long, but I find it soothing," explains a Riverfront Campground visitor, showing noise impacts vary by personal preference.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground proximity: When booking at Thousand Trails Hershey, families should note "the playgrounds are great and well-maintained with seemingly new equipment," making them reliable options for children's entertainment.

Swimming options: Little Buffalo State Park offers a pool with features for all ages. "They offer a large area that is only 1 foot deep, great for little ones! There is also a splash pad! There are 2 slides for fun!" explains a family camper who appreciated the child-friendly design.

Pet-specific amenities: Many pet-friendly campgrounds near Marysville have designated pet zones. Jonestown/Hershey KOA provides "a fenced not in area for dogs," according to a reviewer who appreciated the dedicated pet space.

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling: At Thousand Trails Hershey, RVers should prepare for uneven sites. "The sites are gravel and most are not level. They are not well maintained as the site next to us has weeds a foot high," reports one RVer who struggled with the terrain.

Electrical hookups: Harrisburg East Campground offers strong power connections. "Our site was level, but many were not. The price was the highest we've paid on the east coast so far," notes a visitor who found the amenities adequate despite the cost.

RV length considerations: When booking at Elizabethtown-Hershey KOA, specify your RV size. "Large and easy to enter/exit sites. Wifi was pretty good," mentions one RVer who appreciated the spacious accommodations and connectivity options.
