Best RV Parks & Resorts near Kennett Square, PA

CAMPER SUMMARY PRESENTED BYFord

Several RV parks and resorts surround the Kennett Square area with full hookup services typically available from spring through late fall. Spring Gulch Resort Campground in New Holland offers electric, water, and sewer hookups on sites that accommodate large RVs, operating from March through December. Sun Valley Campground in Narvon features spacious RV sites with electric hookups and sanitary dump facilities, open April through November. "The sites are big and spaced far apart. Lots of privacy," noted one visitor about camping in the region. Lake-In-Wood Campground provides both 30-amp and 50-amp service on their RV pads, while Thousand Trails PA Dutch Country in Manheim includes full-service sites for motorhomes of various sizes.

Advance reservations are essential during peak season as many parks reach capacity, especially on summer weekends and during fall foliage periods. Most RV facilities in the area offer dump stations, though some charge additional fees for this service. Cell service varies throughout the region with stronger coverage near larger towns and potentially spotty reception in more wooded campgrounds. Many parks welcome pets with specific restrictions, and several provide on-site propane refill services. A camper mentioned that "sites are a bit uneven, but pull-through which was nice," highlighting the importance of bringing leveling blocks when visiting certain campgrounds. Winter camping options are limited, with only Village Scene Park in Hatfield and a few Delaware locations remaining open year-round.

    Village Scene Park

    Tucked-Away Community Vibe

I’m following up on my review from over a year ago with updated insights, additional photos and a quick breakdown of HIGHLIGHTS and LOWLIGHTS:

HIGHLIGHTS: (1) Convenient suburban location near Philadelphia yet surprisingly quiet; (2) Full-hookup RV sites with 30 / 50 amp, water, and sewer; (3) Affordable rates compared to other campgrounds in the region; (4) Smaller, tight-knit atmosphere with friendly long-term residents; (5) Pet-friendly, with walking areas and green space; and (6) Nearby restaurants include Franconi’s Pizzeria for classic pies and cheesesteaks and Appalachian Brewing Company with pub fare and house-brewed beers.

LOWLIGHTS: (1) Sites are narrow and can feel cramped, so don’t expect big pull-throughs; (2) Limited amenities with no pool, clubhouse, or playground; (3) Grounds feel more like a residential mobile home park than a campground; (4) Some infrastructure is dated and could use upgrades; and (5) Not much in the way of natural scenery because, um, this is urban camping.

    Happy Camping!

    Thousand Trails PA Dutch Country

Camping in Amish Country @ Its Best

I don’t know if the Amish camp, but regardless, if you’d like to experience what it’s like to go camping in Amish country then Thousand Trails PA Dutch Country RV Resort has you covered. First of all, whenever I see that word ‘resort’ I always wonder – is it really a resort? And, well, while we're on that particular question, what makes a place a resort in the first place? In my estimation, a resort has to have a pool and likely some of those splash pools, probably gated or requires some sort of secure admittance, full of recreation options, is a restful respite and (very probably) features a Tiki Hut or some version of an outdoor bar that is serving up delicious libations. Apart from that very last amenity, this particular RV campground destination ticks most of the boxes.

So, should you be looking for an authentic Quaker environ to enjoy some of the best of what the great Keystone State has to offer, then you might want to give PA Dutch Country RV Resort some consideration, but before you do, you’ll need to secure a membership with Thousand Trails in order to access this, and indeed the other 250 or so other campgrounds this camping conglomerate has throughout the US. The biggest downside to this particular campground is its very close proximity to the PA Turnpike, which while convenient, might detract a bit from the peace & quiet you might be expecting when here at your new-found camping ‘resort.’ That said, as the PA Dutch Country RV Resort rests at a slightly higher elevation than the turnpike, I have to admit, we really didn’t notice much of any noise coming from the highway and what’s more, this campground is completely surrounded by a fairly dense forest, which likely is what blocks any irritable sound and most certainly blocks any highway or traffic visibility.

Should you decide to leave ‘the reservation’ for any reason, you’ll be engulfed by the incredibly rich, verdant countryside populated by incredibly rural residents who’s ancestors settled this vast rich farmland a few hundred years ago. Today, the Pennsylvania Dutch countryside (of which my Irish ancestors intermingled with a long time ago) is a combination of rolling hills in a plush countryside punctuated by massive rolled bays of hay in the surrounding fields, covered wooden bridges and the occasional quaint New England well-preserved charming towns that you will be sure to encounter. So, if you have camping on your mind, discovering a spot like PA Dutch Country RV Resort places you in the heart of one of the most picturesque natural landscapes anywhere in the Keystone State.

Should you need directions to this campground, it’s just off Exit 44 of PA Turnpike or Exit 60 & 60A off of I78. Here at PA Dutch Country RV Resort you’ll encounter a destination offering up 267 back-in and pull-through slots with full hook-ups (30 / 50 amp electric, water and sewage) for RVs in the midst of a fairly decent wooded surrounding with about 6 tent sites offering 15 amp electric and running water. You will discover that no matter where you look on this property, you will have to contend with sloping land as this campground appears to be situated right on the side of a heavily wooded hill. That said, we didn’t have any problems laying out our campsite that came with the standard-issued picnic table and in-ground fold-up fire ring. Don’t have an RV, 5th Wheeler or Tent? Not a problem, as the good folks here at PA Dutch Country RV Resort will rent you one of their 3 cottages for the night.

As previously mentioned, with the term ‘resort’ there should be a ton of amenities that one conjures up and PA Dutch Country RV Resort does not disappoint with plenty of amenities, inclusive of: 3 fairly massive restroom & shower facilities, Wi-Fi service (at a cost), trading post / camp store, swimming pool, walking paths, clubhouse/ office, playing card room, church service, crafts & arts, family bingo, community library, mini golf course, basketball court, horseshoe pits, kids playgrounds, fire pit, designated picnic & BBQ areas, ranger station, recreation hall, cornhole, basketball court, designated dump stations, water stations, ice for sale, propane refueling station, RV storage, Laundry-O-Mat and pet friendly.

Insider’s tips? Here’s a few: (1) If you are an RVer or 5th Wheeler, the best sites IMHO are those that back up to the periphery and are northernmost up the slight embankment as you’ll have greater privacy and less noise being furthest away from all of the action in the center of this campground resort – these sites include: #C1– C5, #D9– D17 and #E44– E49; (2) Should you grow weary of trying to conjure up that next meal from the depths of your Cordova roto-molded cooler or from the confines of your onboard mini-fridge, while there’s not a ton of restaurants around these parts, there are a few and they are pretty amazing, including favorites Brick Tavern Inn and The West End, McCoole’s @ The Historic Red Lion Inn and Sage Alley Brewery; (3) In the event that you need to replenish any of your supplies, rest assured as in nearby Quakertown, there’s a Giant & Aldi’s grocery store as well as a local Target, Walmart, TJMaxx, Kohl’s and Link Beverages to stock up on the 21+ liquid refreshment; (4) Should you be towing your canoe or kayak with you and are eager to get the beak of your waterbird wet, then head on over due east of Quakertown Campground to Nockamixon SP where there’s a sizeable, yet skinny lake just begging for you to navigate it and get some good, hard oaring in; and (5) As a tent camper, while there are only 6 or so spots to choose from, you’ll be happy to know that these are also located on the periphery, with #L1& L2 being southernmost, which I would avoid altogether as this places you too close to the highway) and #T9– T12, which are located northernmost and are the best tent campsites to book.

    Happy Camping!

    The Loose Caboose Campground

    Quiet w/ spacious sites

No frills or extras at the campground, but great place to set up camp! This campground has spacious level sites with gravel pads, full hookups, and fire rings. A great location to stay in proximity to lots of Lancaster attractions/activities. Owners were both very helpful and friendly. The campground is currently offering a Coronavirus Camper Stimulus package (see their website for promotions) based on the PA re-opening phases when we went. This made an already affordable campground even more affordable while allowing people the opportunity to get out of the house and enjoy nature.

Some great hiking and biking trails nearby not to mention a nice area to walk in the woods at the top of the campgrounds mountain. We specifically went to two different sections of the Enola Low Grade Trail about 20 & 30 minutes away. Our favorite was along the Susquehanna River in Manor Township.

This isn't a resort, but if you need a place to wind down, have a fire w/ some peace and quiet, and camp this place is nice. Some rundown trailers and an old falling apart house in the campground that take away from it's beauty is the only reason I gave it a 4.

We have a 31' travel trailer and we had Site 62 at top of mountain which we fit into fine. The sites are mostly back-in sites. All the sites at the top were just as awesome!

    Country Acres Campground

    Clean, quiet, and really nice

Our first trip of 2023 was to Country Acres Campground in Gordonville, PA. And what a great campground to start our season! This is a great spot for visiting Pennsylvania Amish of Lancaster County and about a one-hour drive to Hersheypark.

Our site(# 837) was a good size for our motor home+ toad. It was level and covered in gravel, like all sites and roadways within the campground. Our site had full hookups, decent wi-fi, cable TV, a picnic table, fire ring, and nicely kept grassy area between sites.

Becci was super nice at check-in and check-out. They offer a 2:00 pm check-out which we enjoyed. And there are free tickets available for the Amish Farmland Bus Tour. There’s a small, basic tree at the front office. The pool wasn’t yet opened for our stay. They offered a 10% Good Sam discount(which is nice).

Bottom line: We had a great time at Country Acres Campground and can’t wait to go back!

    THINGS I LIKED:

    • Clean and well-maintained property

    • Quiet campground with friendly neighbors

    • All of the RVs appeared well-maintained with no seasonal sites

    • Easy access from Route 30

Bar Harbor RV Park & Marina

    RV Park surrounded by water!

Our first visit (March 2018) was just prior to peak season (lower rates) and we had a site literally 10 ft. from the water! Full hook ups and sites were a little close, but nice. There seemed to be a lot of long term/permanent residents, but most sites along the waterfront remained open. The campground seemed to stress pet restrictions both in the rules section of their registration packet and signage around the grounds. There was a pet exercise/walking area, but could use some sprucing up. However, no one really made an issue of walking your dog around the campground and as the weekend came around, more and more dogs were around.

You have to drive through a residential neighborhood to reach Bar Harbor, so big rigs take care/caution. Would like to try Bar Harbor again sometime.

    Old Mill Stream Campground

    Good stay

The entrance in off the main road turns you into the theme park. Fear not. Turn in and follow the road to the right and into the campground. We stayed on site 123 with a 40 ft Allegro Bus. Plenty of room to maneuver a big rig. All gravel sites and we had full hookup with 50 Amp.

    Quakerwoods Campground

    Quaint Bucks County Camping Outpost

If you find yourself careening around the picturesque country roads here in Bucks County you will discover Quakerwoods Campground (named of course after the previous tri-cornered hat-donning Quaker residents who settled this vast rich farmland a few hundred years ago) nestled in the verdant, rolling hills of a plush countryside punctuated by massive rolled bays of hay in the surrounding fields, covered wooden bridges and the occasional quaint New England well-preserved charming towns that you will encounter. So, if you have camping on your mind, finding a place like Quakerwoods Campground is quite the find, as it will place you squarely in the heart of one of the most picturesque natural landscapes here in the Keystone State.

As for the campground, which is just off Exit 44 of PA Turnpike or Exit 60 & 60A off of I78, you’ll encounter a destination offering up 170 mostly back-in slots with full hook-ups (30 / 50 amp electric, water and sewage) for RVs ranging between $55-$49 in the midst of a fairly decent wooded surrounding, although less so on the interior of the campground and moreso on its perimeter. There’s about 18 tent sites ranging between $40-$45 that  feature 15 amp electric and running water. All RV and tent sites are relatively flat and include a standard-issued picnic table and in-ground fold-up fire ring. Don’t have an RV, 5th Wheeler or Tent? Not a problem, as the good folks here at Quakerwoods will rent you one of their 4-6 person campers for $120/ night.

The amenities here at Quakerwoods Campground are plenty, inclusive of: 4 Pristine restroom& shower facilities, Wi-Fi service, Free wagon rides(every Saturday), Camp store, Fishing pond, Adult& kid swimming pools, Walking paths, Fishing pond, Game room, Family bingo, Mini golf, Baseball field, Horseshoe pits, Kids Playgrounds, RC track, Front& Back pavilions, Sand Volleyball court, Cornhole, Basketball court, Designated dump stations, water stations, Bonfires, 2 Shuffleboard courts, Ice for sale, Propane refueling station, Laundry-O-Mat, Themed weekends and Pet friendly.

Insider’s tips? Here’s a few: (1) As a tent camper, I was impressed by how Quakerwoods segregates mi tent pitchin’ bredren from the rest of the folks who bring their homes with them on wheels, placing tent sites across the other side of a small creek on the southwestern periphery near the fishing pond; (2) Should you grow weary of trying to conjure up that next meal from the depths of your Cordova roto-molded cooler or from the confines of your onboard mini-fridge, while there’s not a ton of restaurants around these parts, there are a few and they are pretty amazing, including favorites Brick Tavern Inn and The West End, McCoole’s @ The Historic Red Lion Inn and Sage Alley Brewery; (3) In the event that you need to replenish any of your supplies, rest assured as in nearby Quakertown, there’s a Giant & Aldi’s grocery store as well as a local Target, Walmart, TJMaxx, Kohl’s and Link Beverages to stock up on the 21+ liquid refreshment; and (4) Should you be towing your canoe or kayak with you and are eager to get the beak of your waterbird wet, then head on over due east of Quakertown Campground to Nockamixon SP where there’s a sizeable, yet skinny lake just begging for you to navigate it and get some good, hard oaring in.

    Philadelphia-West Chester KOA

    Great campground west of Philadelphia

We spent the Memorial Day weekend at Philadelphia/ West Chester KOA Holiday in Coatesville, PA and had a good time.

We paid$135/night for Back-in Patio Site#25. A bit pricey considering the lack of elbow room, but it’s a great site and everything is well-kept. There was just barely enough room for the motorhome and Jeep Wrangler.

I did have major trouble backing in because the road is too narrow for a 45’ motorhome to back in on a nearly 90-degree angle. So difficult, that I cracked the bottom of my front cap catching the grass and gravel beside the grave road. I think this would’ve otherwise been a 5-star review.Don’t stay in this site in a big motorhome. The trailers/5th wheels seem better because they ‘bend’ at the hitch.

    THINGS I LIKED:

    • Great site(once you’re in it!) including patio furniture on a paver patio and seating around an upgraded fire pit. The landscaping made up for the tight squeeze.

    • Clean and level gravel site with well-maintained utility hook-ups.

    • Close to Longwood Gardens; Wilmington, Delaware; and a handful of local museums and gardens. Not too far from Philadelphia.

    • Super friendly staff. Every interaction with employees was extremely nice. Other campgrounds and even hotels can learn a lot from these folks.

    • The whole park is quiet and well-maintained.

THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE SO MUCH:

    • Heads up, big rig owners! Tight squeeze into Site 25.

    • Get cozy, the sites are quite small and tightly packed together.

    WOULD WE COME BACK?

    • Absolutely, this is a nice campground staffed by super nice people with plenty to see and do in the area.

Guide to Kennett Square

Kennett Square provides convenient access to RV camping near Pennsylvania Dutch Country, with most sites concentrated within a 20-mile radius of town. The region sits at approximately 440 feet elevation with moderate seasonal temperatures ranging from winter lows in the 20s to summer highs in the 80s. Several campgrounds remain open year-round, providing options for RV sites near Kennett Square, Pennsylvania during all four seasons.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Try kayaking and fishing at Lums Pond State Park Campground, where visitors can enjoy catch-and-release fishing from designated areas. "Great state park with lots to do (kayaking, biking, and more)," notes Matt S. The pond allows electric motors only and offers boat rentals for those without their own equipment.

Playground access: Circle M RV Resort features multiple play areas for children along with recreational facilities. "Lots of events to keep the kids busy. We happened to be there on the weekend a magician came, my kids loved it. They have an indoor and outdoor pool. Nice playground," reports Leanne B. The campground offers family-friendly entertainment throughout the camping season.

Miniature golf: Enjoy affordable mini-golf at Lake-In-Wood Campground where families can compete on an 18-hole course surrounded by trees. "Great pools and classes (water aerobics was fun for everyone). They did have a mini golf course too," shares Meag F. The course costs approximately $5 per person with discounts for children under 12.

Nature trails: Explore the equestrian trail at Lums Pond that encircles the entire pond for an easy but lengthy hike. "The trails were well marked, and the day we took a hike, we ended up on the equestrian trail that runs all the way around the pond. It was a long, but easy hike," explains Mark. Several additional walking paths branch from the main loop for shorter excursions.

What campers like

Spacious sites: Bar Harbor RV Park & Marina offers waterfront camping with room to spread out. "Camped here at the end of summer, really loved it. Had our kayaks with us and the water wasn't but a few steps away. Some sites you are right on the waters edge," says Janet P. These premium sites provide views of Bush River with direct water access.

Clean facilities: Pinch Pond Family Campground maintains exceptional restrooms and common areas. "ENTIRE campground was extremely clean and tidy. The office and grounds keeping staff were super friendly and helpful," mentions Melissa Y. Bathhouses are cleaned daily with individual shower stalls for privacy.

Unique accommodations: Visitors appreciate the specialty lodging at Lake-In-Wood, which offers alternatives to traditional camping. "There are a lot of really neat and different rentals here like a tree house, double decker bus, among others," writes Jen R. These themed accommodations must be reserved well in advance, particularly during summer months.

Level sites: Sun Valley Campground provides carefully prepared camping pads that require minimal setup time. "The sites are nice. 90% of the people here are full time," observes Alan. Most sites include full hookups with concrete pads or gravel surfaces that drain well during rainy periods.

What you should know

Operating seasons: Most Kennett Square area campgrounds close during winter months, with limited exceptions. "We are tent campers but there are a lot of RVs and options for a couple of cute cabins as well," says Olivia M. about Lake-In-Wood. Village Scene Park in Hatfield operates year-round with monthly rates of approximately $595.

Noise considerations: Spring Gulch Resort Campground occasionally experiences noise from nearby activities. "Fishing pond is a joke and near by Gun Range can be annoying and tough on pets. But, over all, this place is pretty nice," comments Steve R. Similar concerns exist at several regional campgrounds adjacent to highways or shooting ranges.

Bathroom facilities: Quality varies significantly between campgrounds, with newer parks offering more modern amenities. "The bath house had absolutely immaculate, and the design made even my public-bathroom-phobic sister-in-law comfortable and at ease," shares Mark about Lums Pond State Park. Some facilities feature private shower rooms rather than communal setups.

Site terrain challenges: Expect uneven ground at certain locations, requiring proper leveling equipment. "Sites are a bit uneven, but pull-through which was nice," notes a camper about regional conditions. Many campgrounds are built on sloped land, particularly those in wooded settings away from highways.

Tips for camping with families

Activity planning: Thousand Trails PA Dutch Country offers numerous on-site recreation options. "The Campground itself has tons of amenities from a pool, kids and adult lounges, basketball court, mini golf, ice cream in the store, a store and hiking trails," explains Sammii D. These activities reduce the need for off-site excursions.

Pool considerations: Pinch Pond Family Campground's pool stays open later than many facilities in the area. "If I have one and only complaint it's the pool, it could use an upgrade and I wish they had actual lounge chairs rather than just plastic chairs to sit. However, unlike most campgrounds, the pool stayed open pretty late so that was a huge bonus for me," notes Melissa Y.

Animal encounters: Lake-In-Wood provides opportunities for children to interact with farm animals. "Goats to pet and watch. There are a lot of really neat and different rentals here like a tree house, double decker bus, among others. Nice playground for the kids and a small arcade," describes Jen R. These supervised interactions typically take place during morning hours.

Off-season visits: Consider camping during spring or fall to avoid peak season crowds while maintaining access to most amenities. "We went for the weekend and loved it. Already looking to book another trip. Very clean campground," shares Ricky R. about Lake-In-Wood. Shoulder season rates can be 10-30% lower than summer prices.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: When staying at Thousand Trails PA Dutch Country, choose sites away from common areas for more privacy. "We were in D. We were also able to pick which site we wanted. We chose a pull thru for its ease and the extra space it had being on the end," advises Sammii D. Requesting specific site numbers when making reservations increases your chances of securing preferred locations.

Campground entrance challenges: Bar Harbor RV Park requires careful navigation through residential areas. "You have to drive through a residential neighborhood to reach Bar Harbor, so big rigs take care/caution," warns Craig Z. Larger motorhomes should follow recommended approach routes provided by the campground.

Leveling requirements: Many Kennett Square area RV sites require substantial leveling equipment. "Campground loses a star because the sites are pretty uneven. Not just the one we're on but others as well. The campground is pretty hilly and they don't seem to want to level out the sites," notes Sammii D. about Thousand Trails. Pack extra leveling blocks when visiting this region.

Water connections: Spring Gulch Resort provides reliable full-hookup services from March through December. "Very well kept camp ground. The Prime Sites are very spacious," shares Steve R. Water pressure remains consistent even during peak usage periods, but water is typically turned off during winter months to prevent freezing.
