A fine place to recharge before embarking on your next journey

We stayed here for one night on our way from Raton, NM to Devil’s Den State Park in AR. The campground was well staffed, clean, and signs clearly marking the entrances to the property and sites by number.

We stayed in pull-in site #59, which is paved. The site was perfectly level left to right and we barely dropped our tongue jack to level front to back. There is a laundry, playground, and dog park where the pups can run free off leash.

The coolest part of the campground is the store / office / bar, called “The Moose Knuckle Tavern” (lol). They have pizza, wings, burgers, a salad, and some apps. Call about 30 minutes ahead so you can place your order and not have to wait for your food. Also, plan your stay around not being here on a Sunday. The campground is in one of only 5 counties in Oklahoma that don’t allow alcohol sales on Sundays...lame.

      Absolutely stunning

We picked this place because of its convenience to route 40 and what a suprise. The grounds are stunning! Each space had cement slabs that are level which made our night stop so easy. The grass is thick and meticulously cared for. The dog park even has lush grass! We had an amazing stay.

      Nice quiet spot

Only stayed one night but would have stayed longer. Quiet place with nice landscaping. Concrete level pull thru with full hookups. Picnic table and fire pit at each lot. Has dog park, basketball court, playground and laundry facilities. Cellular good plus free wifi up to 800mb but can upgrade for $5. Cost was $45 a night but offered military discount. Gift shop does not have much but there is a gas station down the road that is easy in/out. Would have given it 5 stars if the nice lady who checked us in didn’t lie to me when I asked if there were vending machines in laundry room as we did not have detergent and she said no. Thank goodness we walked down there anyways.

      Red Rock Canyon Adventure Park

      Beautiful and well kept

I came here with my dog and cat in April and I would say it is one of the most beautiful well kept campgrounds I’ve ever been in as I make my way cross country from Florida to California that wasn’t all booked up and in fact, I was the only tenter there.

I picked a spot that had a red rock wall cove because I knew it would protect us from the coyotes. And I was right — by dusk you can hear them howl and yelp in the bushes so definitely watch your pets especially at night.

The camping spots are big enough, so you have ample room. I could’ve probably fit 3 to 4 tents easily in my spot with room to spare.

The only thing is, there’s no water at the tent site so I borrowed some from the recreational spigot across the way.

The bathrooms are semi-rustic but I’m sure you’ll survive.

There were a lot of old trees and moss on the ground so the ecology is really healthy and I don’t know if it’s because I was there in the spring.

I also like that they have ice and firewood delivery. Their café and snack bar was also a nice touch.

I saw mostly RVs. But they’re mostly in the back of the park.

They also have other amenities like a swimming pool, volleyball courts, playgrounds etc. It would be a perfect place for a family event.

      El Reno West KOA

Easy access- ridiculously close to neighbors

We were in Site# 66. We had Full hook- up with a paved pull-through.
We travel towing a 14 foot trailer and were able to fit both in our pull through site along with my jeep.

The site was easy to level. Our site was not shaded with limited trees. In eight years of RV-ing, we’ve never had such little space between us and our neighbors. We literally walk out our door into their sewer. (See pictures) My husband can touch both RVs with his arms outstretched.

The lot did not come with a concrete patio, picnic table, or a fire ring. Some lots had a picnic table. We did not request one since we’d be eating at our neighbor’s sewer.

It is an easy access to the campground from highway -(right off the highway).

There is free WiFi. They offer Cable TV and there are many local channels).

They do not sell wood here.

They do not provide garbage service at your site but there are many barrel drum trash cans that can be accessed.

You are allowed to ride personal golf carts. They do not provide golf cart rentals. There is really not a need to have a Golf cart because it is a smaller campground.

They do have a Swimming pool (not heated & freezing). They have a fishing Lake on property (it is hidden behind some cabins so you could stay here & never know the lake is here). There are two Buffalo that are owned by the owners of the restaurant and trading post above the KOA (who also own the KOA).

There is a Playground and jumping pad for kids. They have a basic general store.

There is not a snack bar/restaurant on site but there is a restaurant at the top of the hill.

The streets are paved and good for riding bikes. There is not really anywhere to ride bikes outside of campground.

This is a RV park but also have many cabins for rent and tent areas.

They have 2 shower houses. The shower house has the typical stalls. These are kept very clean.

There is a laundry facility. It is a cash only facility. You’ll need to get change in the main office while they are open (no change machine). There are approximately 6 washers and 6 dryers. It is approximately $2 to wash and $2 to dry a load.

They have a fenced in dog park.

Bugs were an issue and bug spray was definitely needed.

There were no trails to hike in the campground.

We’ve noticed that the casinos nearby mainly offer slot machines only (very few have live tables (craps, roulette, blackjack,etc.).

      Wanderlust Crossings RV Park

Beautiful family and pet friendly RV park

This RV park looks like it is brand new. It is beautiful and clean and well maintained. There is a cute store where you check in and a nice fenced playground and dog run. It has a good size clean laundry room and a very nice dog wash. The bathrooms are gorgeous! They pick up your trash right at your site! It’s right off the exit but once you are in the park you can’t even tell there is a highway nearby. There are two nice gas stations with hot food and necessities very close by. The price was very reasonable! We will definitely stay again!

      Better Than Expected

I took my Girl Scout troop of Brownies and Juniors here the last weekend of April. I got there early on Friday so I could get enough campsites for us, since the sites are first-come, first-served. I think this is important because there aren't too many that are away from the RV campgrounds or that have shade. The grounds are pretty clean for a state park and with the resources they have available. We stayed in Beaver Den, which is near the bathrooms with a shower. There is a fantastic red cedar set back into the tree that the girls loved climbing and a little hill they spent plenty of time scaling.

Campsites have picnic tables, a grill, and a fire pit with a grate. The loops are small, so the water is close.

The park ranger was awesome. He drove by several times to ensure everything was fine. He let me know in the future to call the ranger on duty to see if the group campground would be available (because it is also first-come, first-served). They also give a 50 percent discount if they have a service project for scout groups, which is awesome. They came and talked to the girls about a service project and the importance of wearing a life jacket.

Something to pay attention to is that they charge by the tent, not by the campsite. Both Travel.ok and the signage at the park indicate it is $14 per campsite with no more than two tents per site.

Our girls did two horseback rides at the stables. Jennifer & Bre are awesome! There is a small petting zoo with a very spunky goose, some goats, a bunny, and a duck. The ride was fun and relaxing. The girls also want to play mini golf. The general store gave us a discount for being Girl Scouts, but I don't know if that's standard practice.

There are easy hiking trails for little kids and inexperienced people. We also went do the natural spring, which the girls enjoyed and hunted for crawdads.

The lodge has free Oklahoma state park passport books and stickers for kids. If you are familiar with the national park passport books then you'll want to snag one of these.

All and in the staff from the lodge, the stables, to the rangers, and general store all went above and beyond to make our stay great!

      Red Rock Canyon Adventure Park

A Magical Place Tucked Away in Oklahoma

My dog, Ava, and I joined a group of fellow teardrop campers in a surprisingly unique and fascinating campground in Oklahoma. This campground, formally known as Red Rock Canyon State Park, has now become simply Red Rock Canyon Campground. The state park was slated for closure when a local family from the nearby town of Hinton negotiated to lease this lovely place from the state in order to keep this local gem open for both day use and camping.

WOW, what a great service they have done for camper travelers. After checking in at the friendly office, we found ourselves driving down a somewhat steep and winding road into the canyon. Now I'm pulling a 2300 pound teardrop, but plenty of big rigs have also made it down with no problems. The place really is enchanting. The tent sites are tucked right into the canyon walls, and full hook ups, while not tucked in are right inside the canyon as well. With kids in mind, there are many playgrounds as well as repelling and trails for adult types, but you must bring your own climbing equipment.

The one downside for me was the pay showers. It was 75 cents for a six minute shower, and change machines were right there, but hey, I want free showers.

    What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Summer heat demands preparation when camping with pets near Weatherford. Water-Zoo Campground offers insight: "The only negative thing I could say was that the grass was a little long and there were grass burrs everywhere!"

"We visited Wanderlust Crossings RV Park in late October 2020 in the aftermath of a major ice storm that swept across Oklahoma," notes Drew S.

Site selection: Roman Nose State Park offers diverse camping areas with varying experiences. "Cedar Cove had water & electric and seemed to be the sites with least traffic & felt a bit more peaceful. Tips for camping with families

Water activities: Foss State Park provides family-friendly swimming areas. "This campground offers an area sectioned off for swimmers. It has 4 individual Bath Suites; however bring quarters for the hot showers," advises William A., providing important information for families requiring regular bathroom access.

    Tips from RVers

Seasonal accessibility: Winter RV camping near Weatherford requires preparation for potential ice and snow. "When we arrived we learned that they had just suffered a power outage from the ice storm and they asked us if we wanted to stay or if they wanted them to cancel our reservation," explains Drew S. from Wanderlust Crossings, highlighting the importance of weather monitoring.

Site amenities: Territory Route 66 RV Park offers practical benefits for longer stays. "The restrooms and showers are really nice and clean. You have to pay $3 for a shower. There is a washer and dryer for use by guests, and it costs $3 to wash and dry a load," details Debbie J., providing specific cost information for extended stays.

Low clearance awareness: When navigating campgrounds with taller RVs, be mindful of overhead obstacles. "Be careful of low hanging branches if you have a taller RV," warns Brian F. about Roman Nose State Park. This practical advice helps prevent potential damage during arrival and setup.
