Best Campgrounds near Warr Acres, OK

Campgrounds near Warr Acres, Oklahoma provide a mix of urban-adjacent and lake-oriented camping experiences within easy reach of Oklahoma City. Arcadia Lake offers tent, RV, and cabin camping with water recreation opportunities approximately 20 miles northeast of Warr Acres. Twin Fountains RV Park provides more developed accommodations with tent sites, RV hookups, and cabin options closer to the city center. The camping landscape includes several privately-owned RV parks with full hookups alongside state park facilities that offer more natural settings with varying levels of amenities. Most campgrounds in this region feature electric hookups, drinking water, and shower facilities, with several offering cabin accommodations for those seeking alternatives to traditional camping.

Road access to most camping areas remains consistent year-round with paved entrances and well-maintained interior roads. Summer temperatures regularly exceed 90°F, making spring and fall the most comfortable camping seasons. "This is a very well maintained RV park. I think the pictures speak for themselves," noted one visitor about a nearby campground. Flash flooding can affect lakeside camping areas during heavy rain events, particularly at Central State Park where campers have reported water levels rising unexpectedly. Most campgrounds require reservations, especially during summer weekends and holidays. Oklahoma State Parks charge a daily parking fee of $10 per vehicle in addition to camping fees, which visitors should factor into their budget planning.

Waterfront camping receives consistently positive reviews, with Lake Thunderbird State Park and Arcadia Lake offering popular lakeside sites. Campers frequently mention the convenience of these locations for exploring Oklahoma City while still enjoying outdoor recreation. Several visitors noted the contrast between more densely packed RV parks and the more spacious, tree-shaded sites available at state parks. As one reviewer commented about Central State Park, "I love the rural, rougher campsites. This area is much more wooded than Thunderbird." Highway noise affects some campgrounds located near interstates, particularly those closest to I-40 and I-35. Mixed-use campgrounds offering both tent and RV sites tend to be more common than specialized facilities, with many locations providing amenities like playgrounds, fishing access, and hiking trails to complement the camping experience.

    Red Rock Canyon Adventure Park

    Beautiful and well kept

I came here with my dog and cat in April and I would say it is one of the most beautiful well kept campgrounds I’ve ever been in as I make my way cross country from Florida to California that wasn’t all booked up and in fact, I was the only tenter there.

I picked a spot that had a red rock wall cove because I knew it would protect us from the coyotes. And I was right — by dusk you can hear them howl and yelp in the bushes so definitely watch your pets especially at night.

The camping spots are big enough, so you have ample room. I could’ve probably fit 3 to 4 tents easily in my spot with room to spare.

The only thing is, there’s no water at the tent site so I borrowed some from the recreational spigot across the way.

The bathrooms are semi-rustic but I’m sure you’ll survive.

There were a lot of old trees and moss on the ground so the ecology is really healthy and I don’t know if it’s because I was there in the spring.

I also like that they have ice and firewood delivery. Their café and snack bar was also a nice touch.

I saw mostly RVs. But they’re mostly in the back of the park.

They also have other amenities like a swimming pool, volleyball courts, playgrounds etc. It would be a perfect place for a family event.

Lake Thunderbird State Park - Rose Rock RV Campground

    Good campground

Good campground that had everything we needed. Easy access to the lake and lots of squirrels! The lake is kinda dirty tho lots of trash/glass and so are the bathrooms. Awesome sunsets!

    Wes Watkins Reservoir

    Good Camp, but Prison Bathrooms

It was cold when we visited so we had the entire tent campground to ourselves, which was good because of the bathroom situation. The toilets and shower are in individual alcoves, but much like prison there are no stall doors or curtains. I stood outside the ladies room to make sure my companion had privacy while she showered.

There's access to the reservoir for swimming and 15/night for tent campsites. I had no trouble scanning the QR code at the gate to pay for entry, but the payment page can be confusing because it's also used for sewer tax, traffic violations, and other local things.

    Lake Carl Blackwell

    Nice campground

Great campground especially for only $38 a night. Our site was a pull through with water and electric. Nice view of the lake. Staff was very nice. Only negative is don’t follow GPS for directions. It tries to take you down a dead end private road. Stay on Hwy 51 till you see prominent sign for the campground. It’s about 7-8 miles off I35 so very convenient.

    Bell Cow Lake Campground A

Very nice and quiet campground at Bell Cow Lake.

Really nice place with tent and RV sites close to the lake. All RV sites have shade, power and water. Unfortunately, there is no waste water dump. Very attractive price.

    Oklahoma City East KOA

    Noisy tent area

The restrooms with shower were nice. Private stall with keypad entry. Noisy as I heard a lot of motorcycles up and down the highway next to the campground

    Roadrunner RV Park

    Aggressive and retaliatory management staff

The only management on property is a gruff vet that just looks for things to target people staying here if he doesnt like you. Numerous unauthorized charges( never told us they where happening and just would randomly come out of our account). When I asked about the random$30 charge for an extra person(Just me and my other half the entire stay). New owner is out of state in MI(Conor McInerney) as of Jan 1st and apparently they are not fans of general customer service or communication. Metered connections on tip of~$750 monthly expenses. Check out another place or face retaliatory behavior from the current management if you make him mad(thought I deleted my previous 5 star review but set it to 1 star and because of that we were kick out). So since I need to leave a completed review, here it is. No pool, no playground for kids. Lots of homeless at the street corner daily when you leave.

Guide to Warr Acres

Camping spots near Warr Acres, Oklahoma offer diverse options from urban convenience to nature-focused experiences within short driving distances. Summer storms can pose safety concerns for campers, with tornado shelters available at several RV parks in the region. Winter camping remains viable with temperatures rarely dropping below freezing for extended periods.

What to do

Explore Arcadia Lake activities: At Arcadia Lake, visitors can enjoy a variety of water recreation beyond just camping. "While it's close to the city, it feels far away. Lake activities and hiking are available," notes Angela H. about Arcadia Lake.

Visit nearby wildlife viewing: Rockwell RV Park features buffalo enclosures that provide a unique wildlife experience. "They have a decent indoor pool, buffalo in an enclosure, and laundry facilities. They have a church service on Sundays, and they bake muffins each morning that are free for guests," explains Bret N. about Rockwell RV Park.

Enjoy urban recreation: Twin Fountains RV Park offers amenities unusual for campgrounds in the area. "What's not to love. Paved roads, level sites, great pool/hot tub / splash pad, mini golf, and my favorite a restaurant and bar onsite," shares Jennifer H. about her experience at Twin Fountains.

What campers like

Storm safety measures: Several RV parks prioritize severe weather protection, important during Oklahoma's storm season. "This RV Park has 4 or 5 underground shelters, which is somewhat of a comfort," writes Lynn G. about Mustang Run RV Park.

Lakeside camping privacy: Central State Park offers more secluded sites than other area campgrounds. "I love the rural, rougher campsites. The water is a bit sandy and turbid but the place we had was on the water and was great! There was a constant breeze which made fires tricky but very cool even when it got into the mid-90's," describes Christa O. about her experience at Central State Park.

Free amenities: Some RV parks include unexpected complimentary services. "They sell ice and buffalo (yes, they do) and many other necessities in the cute store that also has free buffalo postcards," mentions Elizabeth S. about Rockwell RV Park, adding that they are "Very big rig and dog friendly, lots of grass, open areas and picnic tables."

What you should know

Storm season considerations: Spring camping near Warr Acres requires weather awareness. "It is Springtime here in Oklahoma City, so that means tornado season. Not my favorite thing - torrential rains, hail, wind, thunder, lightening, and every bodies favorite - tornadoes! We stayed here for a week, and nearly every night we had buckets of rain," cautions Lynn G. about Mustang Run RV Park.

Campground reservation policies: Many campgrounds have specific check-in procedures. "Office closes at 6 so no laundry or check in after that," warns Bille W. about Council Road RV Park.

Limited facilities at some locations: Not all campgrounds offer complete services. "Limited amenities, no fire pit on site, gravel lots," notes Beth R. about Council Road RV Park, highlighting the need to research facilities before booking camping spots near Warr Acres.

Tips for camping with families

Look for multiple amenities: Some campgrounds offer excellent family-friendly features. "They have a little bit of everything. Nice sights roads and RV site are paved. Nice pool, mini golf course, store, laundry, bar and grill, and close to a lot of entertainment," says Tony G. about Twin Fountains RV Park.

Consider transport options: Unique transportation services enhance family trips. "The grand children loved the playgrounds mini golf and especially the limo ride to the science museum," shares Francine R. about Twin Fountains RV Park's shuttle service to local attractions.

Find parks with storm shelters: Safety features matter for family camping. "We have taken our family to Arcadia many times to camp. While it's close to the city, it feels far away," mentions Angela H., highlighting the balance of safety and recreation at Arcadia Lake.

Tips from RVers

Check water quality: Water issues can vary between campgrounds. "Water was brown, but we have a Berkey filter, so it wasn't a problem for us. I wouldn't be happy if we didn't have the Berkey, and weren't still winterized. Use your inline filters here!" advises Tashi K. about Oklahoma City East KOA.

Be aware of sewer placement: Some RV sites have challenging hookup configurations. "Some sites have have sewer hookups toward the far rear with a slight incline, so it may take an extension or 2 pending your rig and some imagination," explains Daniel L. about Roadrunner RV Park.

Consider traffic noise levels: Highway proximity affects some campgrounds more than others. "It sits right beside the highway, so there is quite a bit of traffic noise, but other than that, this RV park is top of the line," notes Lynn G. about Mustang Run RV Park.
