    Cross Creek Camping Resort

Big Resort with lots of trees

This is a RV resort close to a lake with a lot of seasonal campers. It is busy on the weekend but was very quiet during the week. The sites are close, but not unreasonably close. Good mix of pull through and back in and is big rig friendly. Plenty to do for the kids. Pool looks nice, was not open yet for the season.

    River Trail Crossing

    Nice little campground

River Trail Crossing is privately owned, small campground (which we like) but nice and quiet. Sites include tents, small rigs and large pull through sites for big rigs. Sites located on the river are water and electric. Sites off the river have 50 amp and 30 amp. State route 95 runs to the right of the campsite so if you reserve any sites on the river (right side) you will have some traffic noise from the bridge. We reserved spot 32, farthest site to the right on the river. We loved it. The river was only about knee to hip deep. Most family’s floated with tubes and saw some kayaks. Not much for fishing at this particular section of the river. There is a paved bike/walking trail behind the campground - B&O trail. Bathrooms and showers were very clean. They do have 2 dumpsites available. We really enjoyed this campground, owners were very friendly and offer firewood and propane if needed. Mohican state park is only 10-15 minutes away which is really nice for hiking and fishing as well. We will be back!

    Cross Creek Camping Resort

    Excellent Campground!

Cross Creek Camping Resort in Delaware, Ohio is a very nice campground with friendly staff and lots of amenities! There are large back-in and pull-thru sites, each with grass, tree, picnic table, and fire pit. They are 30/50 amp with FHU. The campground has lots of fun things for the family such as swimming pool, playground, basketball, tennis, dog run, laundry, yard games, and so much more! The store is stocked with snacks, souvenirs, clothing, camping supplies, holiday decor, etc. We love the large shade trees at every site. It is a blessing on those hot summer days. All in all, a great campground! Check it out when in the area. 👍🏻😉

    Berkshire Campgrounds

    Incorrect pricing

The price advertised on The Dyrt is incorrect. It is not $38.50/day. We paid $50.29 with full hook ups. Very clean, staff very nice, but guests are not allowed without registering at the office. Many seasonal/full time residents which made for quite a bit of early morning traffic. Beautiful fishing pond with well groomed trails. Dogs are allowed off leash on the trails. Staff very pet friendly and courteous. Well appointed camp store. Water pressure excellent. Electric well within standard. Gravel pads, our site was off 2”.

    Gotta Getaway RV Park

    Ok

This was an overnight stay on our way to Pennsylvania. It would be a bonus for big rigs as the pull Throughs are flat and easy to get into. We tend to prefer a back in because it usually gives us a bit more protection on the backside. Unfortunately, the site we were assigned took three blocks to level up, the the power was on the wrong side and our picnic table was in the back area of another camper. The bathroom was nice and close and handy. Some great effort has been made to make it attractive with two-tone tile but that is all overshadowed by the amount of spiders and bugs. I am a full-time RV year and shower all over the United States and this was one of the buggiest ever. The majority of this campground is for seasonals. There are some very nice seasonal lots with a small pond in their back Yard. The owner was very friendly and helpful on the phone. Serves a variety of needs.

    Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point

    Immaculate!

Absolutely beautiful RV park! Gorgeous views of Lake Erie and walking distance to the gate of Cedar Point. Beautiful landscaping and very clean. Staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Good little camp store with reasonable(ish) prices. Too chilly to swim but the pool looks nice. Bathhouses are updated, clean and very nice, but pretty far from about half of the sites. One section has premium sites with upgraded grills and fire pits and crazy good lake views. The regular sites are still well landscaped and each have a grill and an extra long picnic table, but no fire pit. You can bring your own fire pit if your site doesn't have one. No bikes or golf carts allowed on the grounds, but there are Cedar Point buses available day & night as well as rickshaws during the day. Until now I have held Disney World's Fort Wilderness as the penultimate place for camping but they could learn a few things from Cedar Point! We stayed five nights in a pull through sites, #231. I would love to snag a premium site for our next trip but it may be difficult because they allow you to book up five years in advance!

    Timber Ridge Campgrounds

    Great Experience

We stayed at Timber Ridge for a month and found this to be a very nice campground. Stores are very level, full hookups, fishing pond, amazing indoor swimming pool. Staff was extremely nice. Many if the campers are long term but have several overnight doors as well.

We stayed in a 29ft Travel Trailer, but sites could handle the largest of rigs.

Guide to Shelby

Near Shelby, Ohio, campers can find a mix of lakeside, riverside, and woodland RV sites within a 30-mile radius. The region experiences four distinct seasons with summer temperatures typically ranging from 65-85°F. Most campgrounds in the area operate seasonally from May through October, with limited winter camping options due to northern Ohio's snow and freezing temperatures.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: At Kokosing River Campground, campers enjoy the lake stocked with various fish species. "Beautiful lake, nice and quiet. Lots of waterfowl," notes reviewer Shelly S., who visited in September when the campground wasn't crowded.

Kayaking and water activities: Water recreation is popular at several campgrounds. Mark B. mentions, "Kayaking on the lake is great," at Kokosing River Campground. For those seeking river activities, Berlin RV Park & Campground offers easy access to nearby waterways.

Explore Amish Country: Berlin RV Park puts you in the heart of Ohio's Amish region. Chris C. shared, "The campground is right in the middle of Ohio's Amish country with easy access to shopping and food and other great experiences like the large cuckoo clock in Sugar Creek."

Biking trails: Several campgrounds offer bike trail access. Brian E. explains that at River Trail Crossing, "There is a paved bike/walking trail behind the campground - B&O trail," making it convenient for cyclists to explore without driving elsewhere.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Many reviewers highlight exceptional cleanliness. At Whispering Hills Jellystone RV Park, Kayla S. noted, "staff is friendly, grounds are clean and nicely kept." Berlin RV Park receives praise for "SPOTLESS bathrooms and I mean SPOTLESS" from Tara T.

Family activities: Campgrounds in the area feature numerous recreational options. Whispering Hills offers "mini golf, pool, jumping pad and frisbee golf," according to Kayla S. Similarly, at Cedarlane RV Resort, Jeffrey C. mentions, "They have a great splash pad and wading pool for kids. There is a new Tiki Hut to get adult drinks. A gem mine. Horseshoes, basketball court and lots of kids activities."

Peaceful environment: Many rv sites near Shelby provide quiet settings. Madeleine B. describes Kokosing River Campground as "peaceful. Kids playing on the lake, lots of folks seem like they come here every summer for long stretches." Similarly, Jeffrey C. appreciates that Fort Firelands is a "quiet campground near Lake Erie."

Waterfront locations: Several campgrounds offer premium waterfront sites. Ashley R. found Cedar Lane's waterfront proximity ideal for families, noting "We visited east harbor state park while there and the beach was weird, there's a rock wall bordering the lake... but once in the water it felt like walking on play doh and the water was pretty shallow definitely a great area for kids especially smaller kids."

What you should know

Seasonal operation: Most RV parks near Shelby operate from May through October. Berlin RV Park runs from April 1 to December 1, providing a slightly longer season than others. Whispering Hills Jellystone operates from April 15 to October 31.

Site leveling challenges: Some campgrounds have uneven sites. Sue B. mentioned at Gotta Getaway RV Park, "the site we were assigned took three blocks to level up, the power was on the wrong side and our picnic table was in the back area of another camper."

Electrical options: While 50-amp service is common, adaptors may be needed at some locations. Lisa K. notes that Fort Firelands "only had 50w outlets, but will lend you a converter for $15.00, which is refundable upon leaving."

Weather considerations: Northern Ohio's climate affects camping conditions. The region experiences frequent summer thunderstorms, particularly in July and August. Spring camping often means dealing with mud and mosquitoes.

Tips for camping with families

Look for dedicated kid activities: Fort Firelands RV Park offers family-friendly amenities despite being mainly seasonal. Renee L. notes, "They have a nice outdoor pool, small playground, and small miniature golf course," making it suitable for families with children of various ages.

Consider weekend crowds: Many campgrounds become busy on summer weekends. Ashley R. observed at Cedarlane RV Resort, "We got there on a Saturday and it was very busy but Sunday morning most of the campers started to head out. We stayed till weds and the rest of the time was very nice."

Check swimming options: Water features vary significantly between campgrounds. Jeffrey C. notes that at Cedarlane, "Pools are small and can be a little crowded during the summer on weekends. They have a great splash pad and wading pool for kids."

Plan for insects: Bug activity can affect camping comfort. Renee L. mentions that at Fort Firelands, "It was also very buggy in the evenings," suggesting families should pack appropriate repellent.

Tips from RVers

Site selection matters: Riverview RV Park offers varied site types with different benefits. Jason D. explains, "The campground has waterfront spots with tree coverage to no tree coverage to close up against one another spot where you can hear your neighbors. It's the you get what you pay for."

Waste management: Some campgrounds have limited sewer options. Jason D. notes that Riverview "does not have sewage and pumps you out twice a week if seasonal and yearly. If you need a pump out it 20$ for emergency situations."

Road noise considerations: When selecting campsites, consider proximity to highways. Janet B. mentions that at Berlin RV Park, the "Only downside would be road noise on front sites."

Weekday visits preferred: For quieter camping experiences at RV sites near Shelby, many reviewers recommend mid-week stays when campgrounds are less crowded and amenities more accessible.
