Jamestown Campground — Pymatuning State Park

    Awesome place to camp

Pymatuning Lake Campground is a huge 700 site family oriented campground. Sites are large and clean and your not packed in. Bathrooms and showers are OK but they are clean. Best part of being here is the awesome fishing. Know for huge black crappie, walleye, and small and big mouth bass. This is the place to go fishing.

    Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

What a great place to camp!

First time here. They told me Ohio State Parks were voted #1 in the US. Well there is a reason for that. Beautiful, clean, great spots, not a bad site in the entire park. Wood is dry and cheap right outside the park entrance. Bass fishing is top notch on the lake. I would definitely come back here again and again.

No EV Charging Allowed! Wet Sites

Site was pre-season opening (although no discount - almost $80/night), so there was construction during our stay.  Rains resulting in site flooding - the gravel pad was fine, but had to wade into the mud & water to get to utilities for the trailer.

Dumpsters were overflowing and campground sent email to inform campers they would have to haul out their own trash.

Biggest disappointment was lack of EV charging options at this site.  Didn't see the "No Charging" rule on their website when signing up, or we would have gone elsewhere.

    Won't return.

    Harts Content Campground

Nice Private Campground - EV Friendly

Spend one night here on our way to Ohio.  Owner was very friendly and allowed me to charge my Rivian onsite (I offered to pay for the extra power).

Pad was level and utilities were well located.

    Check-in & check-out were seamless.

The site amenities are dated, but it is a pretty cool campground!

We would definitely return for longer!

    Mosquito Lake State Park Campground

    Our "trial run" place

We live really close so we stay at mosquito for our first stay every year. This year we were disappointed. They had no staff there to check us in, the signs says closed Monday through Wednesday. Bathrooms were supposed to be open because we stayed April 16th, but only some of them were. (Even though online states April 1st they reopen). Some sites are more wet than others. We stayed at site 54 this time. The pad was very narrow and it was wet around it (it has been raining a lot). The person before us must have purchased a $12 bale of hay that they were selling up front because there was hay everywhere. Wish they would just put gravel down.

Otherwise, it's quiet. We love the nature play area for the kids. We love the playgrounds.

When they are open, the bathrooms are very clean. The shower house is dated but clean. Far walk from every site basically as they put it on the main road between both loops.

Simple site, gravel park pad, fire pit with swinging arm grill. Plenty of free firewood. Great place would stay again

Scout camping, boat launch, primitive camping and more," notes a visitor to Mill Creek Camping — Berlin Lake Wildlife Area.

Hiking trails: Access several trail systems directly from campgrounds. Paths range from easy walking routes to more challenging terrain. At Silver Springs Campground, "There is also a wooded walking trail network on the east and North sides of the campground," according to one camper.

Water activities: Swimming and boating available at multiple locations. Most waterfront campgrounds allow direct lake access. A camper at West Branch State Park Campground shared, "We can launch our kayaks right from our campsite. The shower house and bathrooms are large and clean. There is even a book exchange shelf at the shower house in case of rainy days."

What campers like

Clean facilities: Well-maintained bathrooms and shower buildings. Campers consistently mention facility cleanliness as a highlight. A visitor to Countryside Campground reported, "The bathrooms were clean, the showers were nice and the pool was well kept. Each site comes with a fire ring and picnic table both in good condition."

Spacious campsites: Room to spread out at several campgrounds. Site size varies significantly between locations. One camper at KOA Lake Milton Berlin Lake mentioned, "We had a great time. The campground was clean, the bathrooms were updated and also extremely clean. The campground had so many amenities its hard to name them all!"

Family activities: Organized events and recreational facilities. Many campgrounds provide structured activities, especially on weekends. "We were here for the first time last year and loved it so much we came back this year. The park itself and the bathrooms were very clean. We book a lakefront site and it is just gorgeous!" shared a visitor to Mill Creek Camping.

What you should know

Reservation recommendations: Book early for premium sites. Waterfront locations fill quickly, especially for summer weekends. One camper at West Branch State Park Campground advises, "Make reservations! (6 months in advance). Waterside sites fill up quickly!"

Site conditions: Some locations have challenging terrain. Leveling equipment may be necessary at certain campgrounds. "Sites were a tad small but nice and long. Even with the sites close together it was quiet and peaceful," notes a Countryside Campground visitor.

Limited bathrooms at some locations: Be prepared for basic facilities. Bathroom availability varies widely. At Silver Springs Campground, a camper observed, "Bathrooms are just port-a-johns located on either side of the campground but there are flushable toilets a little walk away."

Tips for camping with families

Dog-friendly options: Multiple campgrounds welcome pets. Most established sites allow dogs with standard leash requirements. "This is hands down one of the best campgrounds that we have stayed at. They always are thinking of new things for the kids to do. It also a very laidback atmosphere for the adults," according to a review of Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™- Akron/Canton.

Water play areas: Several campgrounds have swimming pools or beach access. Children particularly enjoy designated swim areas. "The kids absolutely loved swimming in the little lake and sliding/jumping off the inflatables," shared a visitor to KOA Lake Milton Berlin Lake.

Playgrounds and recreation: Structured play areas available. Most family-oriented campgrounds provide playground equipment. At Countryside Campground, "The 9 tent sites are very large and spacious. It is mostly an established Rv Park. The community was very kind. Showers were clean and spacious. Pool was closed since went before Memorial Day but it was a nice medium sized pool."

Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Bring additional equipment. Some campgrounds have significant grading issues. A camper at West Branch State Park reported, "On first impression we were not impressed with this park. First the water fill is on an incline so when our tank was 'full' pulling away from fill station it was really only 2/3 full."

Size limitations: Check for big rig accessibility. Not all campgrounds accommodate larger RVs. At Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA, visitors noted, "The site was level and easy to hook up to."

Seasonal considerations: Most RV campgrounds close by mid-October. Off-season camping options are limited in the area. "We're at site 160. No electricity, no hook ups, but a HUGE lakefront site. We're in a self contained RV so it's not a problem for us. Beach is right next door too!" shared a West Branch State Park camper.
