Best Campgrounds near Dellroy, OH

Dellroy, Ohio features several developed campgrounds with both lakeside and wooded settings. Atwood Lake serves as a focal point for outdoor recreation in the area, with campground options including Atwood Lake Park Campground and Atwood Lake County Campground offering tent sites, RV hookups, and cabin rentals. Woods Tall Timber Resort provides additional accommodation types including glamping options within a more resort-style setting. Most established campgrounds in the region sit within the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District, creating a network of outdoor recreation areas within driving distance of each other.

Campsites throughout the Dellroy area generally operate seasonally, with many facilities closing between November and April. The most popular locations fill quickly during summer weekends and holiday periods, particularly waterfront sites which require advance reservations. Facilities vary significantly between campgrounds, with some offering full hookups on concrete pads while others maintain more primitive settings. Memory Park Campground provides basic amenities suited for tent camping with portable toilets and access to fishing areas. Road conditions are generally good with paved access to major campgrounds, though some areas may experience flooding during heavy rainfall periods. A review noted, "The sites were primitive, which we liked and there were plenty of trees to hang hammocks. There were other campers there, but everyone was so far away, we felt alone."

Lakefront camping represents a significant draw for visitors to the Dellroy area. Campers specifically seek out sites along Atwood Lake for water views and recreational opportunities. The newer camping areas at Atwood Lake Park feature full-hookup sites on level concrete pads with spacious facilities. As one visitor described, "Area H is Beautiful. We stayed in Area H site 898 and could not get over the beautiful landscape. The lake and forest trails surround this area." Family-friendly amenities including playgrounds, hiking trails, and beach access make these campgrounds popular for multi-generational trips. While some campgrounds primarily cater to RVs with extensive hookup options, tent campers should research carefully as not all sites accommodate ground tents effectively. Bathhouses and shower facilities receive positive reviews for cleanliness and accessibility at the larger established campgrounds.

    Woodside Lake Park

    Nice quiet camping

Quiet tent campsite parked in this area. There are quite a few RVs parked here and it appears lively, but the tent area in hilltop was quiet and secluded. Very kid friendly. At night, there was highway noise in the background. A lot to do here but also very close to Cuyahoago Valley National Park.

Canal Fulton Canoe Livery & Campground

    Great location, laking facilities

The campground runs along 100 yards or so of the tuscarawas River. Sandwiches by a railroad, and walking path. They allow you to drive to your spot to pack/unpack, but have to park in the lot. While the campsites are scenic and what you expect... the washroom, especially the shower are pretty lacking. There's a nice covered picnic area with grills available with your own gas. And a small (toddler) kids area. All in all, a great cheap spot for a quick stay.

We stayed mid September and there was live music walking distance every night, a cute ice cream shop a short walk over the bridge, and a nice playground on the other side of the river that was also an easy walk.

I didnt partake in the canoes... but they do a river clean up monthly and really seem to enjoy what they do.

All in all a great cheap spot for a quick stay.

    Seneca Lake Park Campground

    Okay campground

Nice campground on the lake. Some mosquitos& gnats. Much of the campground has sites/ trailers that are owned(or leased), with some campsites for daily/ short-term reservations. Someone we met explained that the short-term ones are on flood areas so they can’t let people build on those sites. Another aspect is that there are boat slips that are owned(or leased) and those can even be in front of one of the short-term campsites so water access is blocked by those no trespassing private docks. Okay place to stay on our way across the country.

    Zion Retreat & RV Park

Quiet and beautiful spot in the eastern Ohio hills

Was a great camp, clean and well kept. Had a great spot by the lake right off the back of our camper. Make sure you have a good tow vehicle as there is a steep hill at the entrance/exit of the camp ground.

    Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA

Quiet, peaceful, close to all the things

We stopped here for a couple nights to go to a Cleveland Guardians game and go to Cuyahoga National Park. It was within great proximity to both and had all the amenities the kids and I love. Swimming (wish it were open a little later…) laundry 24/7, a game room, store with just what we needed to pick up a few things, a pond that seemed to always have someone fishing at it (that’s a good thing) and a big wide sites to spread out and have a nice campfire in. (Wood available 24/7 and trash pick up at the site in the AM). It’s always nerve wracking when the fire pits are close to the rigs - loved that these sits were wide. And while there are likely people here it feels nice and spread out.

    Woodside Lake Park

Old Park With Iron Laden Well Water Beware

I stayed at this park for 2 months in 2023 and was planing on staying for 5 months in 2025. I left after 2 months due to iron& sulfur laden well water that is provided in at least half the park. I spent hundreds of dollars trying to filter and clean up the water to no avail. It damages everything and they won't put a treatment system in at the well pump like the 2nd well has so you can filter it to an acceptable level for drinking, cooking, washing etc.

In 2023 I was in a section that was treated and my filters/softener did a acceptable job to make it work. I Used the laundry facilities also. This trip to see family in 2025 I was in a different section and by the second day it was unacceptable disgusting turbid rusty water with sulfur odor. I bought additional filters for Ferrous Iron Water treatment and remediation along with iron out chemical for cleaning fixtures and plumbing system on the camper. It barely worked well enough for a couple weeks between filter changes and rinsing the system for shower use. I Had to buy drinking water in town every few days for cooking, drinking and brushing teeth etc.

New owners bought the park in 2023 and have increased monthly rent from$750 a month to$950 a month but don't seem to care enough about the health and comfort of their guest to do anything with the well water for a majority of the park. Let alone any of the other infrastructure or"amenities" to be generous in there reference This year even the laundry machines where too disgusting to use that we had to go into town for laundry also.

The park needs major renovations to just bring it up to modern standards. The bath house is in decrepit condition moldy smelly and barely cleaned anytime I was over there. Site pads are rip rap 1" to 4" size rock with no fine rock coverings, or in some areas smoother rock and dirt but nowhere close to flat or level. Water drainage when its raining is deplorable and you very well might be in a mud pit at your doorway.

It's sad there are no decent RV parks in the Cleveland area, just old campgrounds that have added hook-ups and market themselves as RV parks and now charge like they are RV Resorts. Reserve a space at your own risk and definitely verify where and what water source you are on. Bring plenty of filters and plan on sanitizing your system after staying there.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Memory Park Campground provides several dedicated fishing areas with easy shoreline access. As one camper noted, "Cousins Cove had plenty of shade and was close enough to the portable toilet that it wasn't inconvenient, but far enough to have to worry about smells or run off."

Horseback riding: Canton / East Sparta KOA Holiday - Bear Creek Ranch offers on-site trail rides suitable for beginners. A visitor shared, "Took the kids on the horse ride and they loved it. All staff were very friendly."

Water recreation: Atwood Lake Park Campground features a swimming beach with designated areas for children. "There is a snack shop and a full restaurant at the marina with great food, an ice cream dariette just down the road," according to a reviewer who appreciated the convenient amenities.

Disc golf: West Branch State Park Campground maintains a course that attracts both beginners and experienced players. One visitor reported, "We also played some disc golf and went geocaching," highlighting the diverse activities available beyond traditional camping pursuits.

What campers like

Modern facilities: The newer camping areas at Atwood Lake Park Muskingum Watershed Conservancy Dist receive praise for their updated infrastructure. A camper observed, "1st impression was - wow it's newly updated and a beautiful well maintained campground."

Waterfront views: Sites at Tappan Lake Park Campground provide direct lake access, especially valuable for boaters. A camper explained, "We're at site 160. No electricity, no hookups, but a HUGE lakefront site. We're in a self contained RV so it's not a problem for us. Beach is right next door too!"

Swimming options: Woods Tall Timber Resort offers a swimming lake with additional water features. "We have never experienced so much fun all in one place, from the clean swimming lake, to ziplining, to rv camping, and well kept bath houses," wrote an enthusiastic visitor.

Privacy between sites: Memory Park Campground provides well-spaced primitive sites. A reviewer appreciated that "There were other campers there, but everyone was so far away, we felt alone," making it ideal for those seeking a more secluded camping experience near Dellroy.

What you should know

Reservation timing: For popular campgrounds near Dellroy, especially waterfront sites, plan 6 months ahead. At West Branch State Park Campground, "Make reservations! (6 months in advance). Waterside sites fill up quickly!"

Site leveling challenges: Many campsites require leveling equipment. One West Branch camper reported, "We were only off 2 inches side to side but front to back we had to lower the front 15 inches. The jack was down as low as it would go and we were still off by 1.5 inches."

Tent camping limitations: Not all campgrounds accommodate tent camping equally. A visitor to Atwood Lake Park noted, "This campground is HUGE (more than 500 sites), and it's absolutely jam packed with RVs and permanent trailers. We were fortunately given the opportunity to drive around the campground and look for a site that was appropriate for tents."

Seasonal crowding: Holiday weekends see significantly increased traffic. A Pride Valley Campground visitor warned about certain weekends having "a parade of golf carts as the seasonals drove up and down looking to take firewood that people left."

Tips for camping with families

Beach activities: Atwood Lake Park Campground offers designated swimming areas with amenities for different age groups. "The beach was awesome... sandy all the way out. Concession stand is nice by beach too," noted one family visitor.

Playground options: Tappan Lake Park Campground includes multiple play areas throughout the grounds. "There are playgrounds for the children. An ice cream social is held on Saturday evenings that my children always love to attend," shared a regular visitor.

Water safety considerations: Supervision levels vary at different swimming areas. One Pride Valley visitor cautioned about inconsistent staffing: "She screams at the kids and is a bully. She isn't sober and gives the swim tests for the docks. So let put a kid that we don't know if they can swim in deeper water."

Biking conditions: Some campgrounds have challenging terrain for younger cyclists. A reviewer at Canton-East Sparta KOA reported, "Very difficult to ride bikes on loose gravel. My grandson fell twice."

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: At Pride Valley Campground, "Sights are pretty level, are newer so gravel still settling," according to a visitor who recommended calling ahead to request specific sites.

Hookup considerations: For RVers needing full connections, Woods Tall Timber Resort offers comprehensive options. A seasonal camper mentioned the resort provides "full hook ups (W/E/S)" with "spots that are pretty level."

Turning radius awareness: Larger rigs should consider site approach angles. At West Branch, one RVer noted, "The water fill is on an incline so when our tank was 'full' pulling away from fill station it was really only 2/3 full," highlighting infrastructure design issues that affect larger vehicles.

Off-season advantages: Several Dellroy camping locations remain open year-round with reduced crowds. Canton-East Sparta KOA operates throughout winter, providing a viable option when other campgrounds close during colder months.
