Best Campgrounds near Beachwood, OH

Camping areas surrounding Beachwood, Ohio include several established campgrounds within an hour's drive of the city. Punderson State Park Campground, approximately 15 miles east of Beachwood, provides year-round camping with electric hookups, showers, and accommodations for tents, RVs, and glamping options. Other nearby options include Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA, offering cabins and yurts, and more primitive tent-only experiences at sites like The West Woods and Penitentiary Glen Reservation. Most campgrounds in the region operate seasonally, with peak availability from May through October, though some facilities remain open year-round.

Road conditions and access vary significantly across camping areas near Beachwood. Many campgrounds feature drive-in sites suitable for RVs and large vehicles, while others require short hikes to reach tent pads. The West Woods and Penitentiary Glen offer more secluded walk-in sites that require campers to pack equipment from parking areas. Punderson State Park, while offering good amenities, presents challenges with site terrain. As one camper noted, "The lots are not even close to level. You will need a lot of blocks to get close to level. Saw one RV with auto levelers with his tire about foot off the ground." Reservations are typically required for most developed campgrounds, with booking windows opening several months in advance.

Campers consistently highlight the region's natural features and proximity to attractions like Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The wooded settings provide privacy and shade at most sites, though site quality varies considerably. Reviews indicate that primitive sites tend to offer more seclusion but require additional planning. A visitor to The West Woods mentioned, "Site is about a quarter mile from the parking lot so pack light, bring a wagon, and/or be ready for a work out." Several campgrounds feature lake access with opportunities for paddling, swimming, and fishing. While convenient to urban amenities, many sites maintain a natural atmosphere with abundant wildlife, particularly birds. Mosquitoes can be problematic after rainfall, especially in summer months.

    Punderson State Park Campground

    Solo tent camping went well

I had originally gotten lot #81 but quickly got it switched to #83 because it was just waaaay better. Flatter ground and I was able to go deeper into the woods.

I went the first week of October, and on weekdays, which was great because I had no neighbors.

Staff was great, check in area also has a little store with all the essentials stocked up, lots of trails, great for biking and hiking, a park for the kids, fishing, canoeing, showers, flush toilets, all that fancy stuff was there.

Only down side was occasional road noise which I just can't seem to escape in my area of Ohio. And I personally wouldn't go here on weekends or over the summer because there are RV sites everywhere, which is another thing that dominates my area of Ohio.

Going again, as long as I don't have the kids, I would try for a test space as far from the road and is deep in the forest as possible. Do that at tge right time of year and I think this will be a great spot for me in the future

    Woodside Lake Park

    Nice quiet camping

Quiet tent campsite parked in this area. There are quite a few RVs parked here and it appears lively, but the tent area in hilltop was quiet and secluded. Very kid friendly. At night, there was highway noise in the background. A lot to do here but also very close to Cuyahoago Valley National Park.

Canal Fulton Canoe Livery & Campground

    Great location, laking facilities

The campground runs along 100 yards or so of the tuscarawas River. Sandwiches by a railroad, and walking path. They allow you to drive to your spot to pack/unpack, but have to park in the lot. While the campsites are scenic and what you expect... the washroom, especially the shower are pretty lacking. There's a nice covered picnic area with grills available with your own gas. And a small (toddler) kids area. All in all, a great cheap spot for a quick stay.

We stayed mid September and there was live music walking distance every night, a cute ice cream shop a short walk over the bridge, and a nice playground on the other side of the river that was also an easy walk.

I didnt partake in the canoes... but they do a river clean up monthly and really seem to enjoy what they do.

All in all a great cheap spot for a quick stay.

    Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA

Quiet, peaceful, close to all the things

We stopped here for a couple nights to go to a Cleveland Guardians game and go to Cuyahoga National Park. It was within great proximity to both and had all the amenities the kids and I love. Swimming (wish it were open a little later…) laundry 24/7, a game room, store with just what we needed to pick up a few things, a pond that seemed to always have someone fishing at it (that’s a good thing) and a big wide sites to spread out and have a nice campfire in. (Wood available 24/7 and trash pick up at the site in the AM). It’s always nerve wracking when the fire pits are close to the rigs - loved that these sits were wide. And while there are likely people here it feels nice and spread out.

Tips from RVers

Water access issues: Some campgrounds have limited water hookups or problematic water quality. The bath house is in decrepit condition moldy smelly and barely cleaned anytime I was over there."
