    Thompson/Grand River Valley KOA Holiday

    Happy Camping

Relax, breath, and camp. Perfect spot.

This Campground is quiet, full of fun, for families or older people. Beautiful area.
Many pull through lots, with patios. 50. 30. Full hookup, (sewer and Electric) back in, pull through, tent sites, cabins, teepees. Swimming pool, private bathrooms and showers. Fishing lake, swimming lake, trails. Children play areas. Basketball, bad mitten/volleyball, Dog wash, dog parks (2), private fenced dog sites. (2)- pull through site. Golf cart rentals, and seasonal sites that are being updated, but all are decorated nicely, and kept up.
KOA is revamping some of this campground. Work in progress, but awesome stay.

    Gotta Getaway RV Park

    Ok

This was an overnight stay on our way to Pennsylvania. It would be a bonus for big rigs as the pull Throughs are flat and easy to get into. We tend to prefer a back in because it usually gives us a bit more protection on the backside. Unfortunately, the site we were assigned took three blocks to level up, the the power was on the wrong side and our picnic table was in the back area of another camper. The bathroom was nice and close and handy. Some great effort has been made to make it attractive with two-tone tile but that is all overshadowed by the amount of spiders and bugs. I am a full-time RV year and shower all over the United States and this was one of the buggiest ever. The majority of this campground is for seasonals. There are some very nice seasonal lots with a small pond in their back Yard. The owner was very friendly and helpful on the phone. Serves a variety of needs.

    Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point

    Immaculate!

Absolutely beautiful RV park! Gorgeous views of Lake Erie and walking distance to the gate of Cedar Point. Beautiful landscaping and very clean. Staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Good little camp store with reasonable(ish) prices. Too chilly to swim but the pool looks nice. Bathhouses are updated, clean and very nice, but pretty far from about half of the sites. One section has premium sites with upgraded grills and fire pits and crazy good lake views. The regular sites are still well landscaped and each have a grill and an extra long picnic table, but no fire pit. You can bring your own fire pit if your site doesn't have one. No bikes or golf carts allowed on the grounds, but there are Cedar Point buses available day & night as well as rickshaws during the day. Until now I have held Disney World's Fort Wilderness as the penultimate place for camping but they could learn a few things from Cedar Point! We stayed five nights in a pull through sites, #231. I would love to snag a premium site for our next trip but it may be difficult because they allow you to book up five years in advance!

    Timber Ridge Campgrounds

    Great Experience

We stayed at Timber Ridge for a month and found this to be a very nice campground. Stores are very level, full hookups, fishing pond, amazing indoor swimming pool. Staff was extremely nice. Many if the campers are long term but have several overnight doors as well.

We stayed in a 29ft Travel Trailer, but sites could handle the largest of rigs.

    Outstanding site in great campground

Stayed on a premium patio site and loved it. The campground and staff were awesome. Level site, great hook ups, awesome WiFi and cable. Clean facilities, 3 lakes (one with a fishing pier), 2 dog parks, and super friendly staff. 30 min to Cleveland. Walmart, gas stations and restaurants within 5 miles. Just off Ohio Turnpike, but can't hear it. Definitely recommend this KOA

    East Harbor State Park Campground

    East harbor state park

Very clean. Close to everything you need close to ferry clean showers camp monitors were friendly sites are paved. 50/30 amp hookups Our site was just a standard electric site. They do have 150 full hook up sites or more. We made our reservations late we were not really concerned about water or sewer as we planned to use the camp ground facilities anyway. Fresh water is available to fill your holding tanks. Dump stations are easily acceptable as are water filling stations Big Boopers restaurant is a great place for breakfast lunch or dinner. If you do t feel like cooking it’s about a 10 min drive. Campground has very good WiFi. We have Verizon had very good reception inland and I. The islands. Bass island is a fun day trip. Sites were level left to right. Had a slight pitch front to back.

    West Branch State Park Campground

    Love the Lake!

This state park has a lot to offer with the highlight being a large 2,650-lake that appeals to fishermen, boaters, and swimmers. The park is over 5,000 acres and not only has camping but hiking, volleyball, fishing, playgrounds, picnicking, hunting, horseback riding, and more.

The campground is divided into three loops with nearly 200 sites. Campsites include those with full hook-up (50 amp), electric only (50 amp), and some with no electric. This campground is suitable for everything from large RVs to tents. Sites and roads are paved and each site has a picnic table and fire pit. In loops where there is no water directly at the site, water spigots are scattered throughout. The restroom/bathhouses in our loop were really nice, modern, clean, and had laundry facilities which is a real plus at a state park campground. Campsites can be reserved online up to six months in advance. Since we were here in April, the campground was practically empty and getting a site was no problem. But, if you want one of the 29 full hook-up sites in the summer, you better book early.

We really enjoyed the hiking trails and being able to leave our campsite and be right on the trails. There are approximately 12 miles of hiking trails and an additional 20 miles that are open to horses and snowmobiles. (Be aware that hunting is permitted in certain areas.)

The park is about 15 miles from Cuyahoga Valley National Park which is a fantastic place to explore with a lot going on for the whole family! If you are interested in football, the National Football Hall of Fame is just down the road in Canton. The town of Hudson has a pretty, historic downtown with a fun old soda fountain.

We would definitely stay at this campground again. It was a perfect place to stay while visiting family in the nearby town of Hudson. Loved having a paved site with full hook-ups especially since there was a lot of rain while we were there. The lake was perfect for kayaking and had we been able to stay longer we would have spent more time on the water.

Crystal Rock Campground - Sandusky, OH

    Clean & cute

This campground was family friendly, dog friendly, and very clean. About 30 minutes from cedar point. Our only complaint and the reason we’re docking a star is because our site was right next to a giant generator that seems to run 24/7 and sites seemed a little tight. Otherwise we enjoyed this campground very much.

    Great stop for one night

Great campground on the smaller side, so not too much traffic driving around. Our site was gravel and fairly unlevel. Did our best to level it out but still have water collecting to the left. We lucked out and got a pull through last minute.

Water pressure was low. ATT cell coverage was full. Lots of shade so couldn’t use our Starlink internet but the campground internet was great. Even had video camera meetings on it while working in the morning.

Worth noting we were having some rig problems (slide out stuck in) and after calling four local places not one of them returned our calls. Only stayed the one night because we need to move on to get this fixed.

Located in Cuyahoga County, Bay Village sits at approximately 633 feet above sea level with campgrounds typically operating seasonally due to the region's snowy winters when temperatures can drop below freezing.

What to do

Beach access for water recreation: American Wilderness Campground features lake views perfect for sunset watchers. "Beautiful clean serene park with absolutely stunning beach views at sunset," shares Andrew V. The campground offers fishing opportunities as noted by Jessica J.: "We love the fishing available here we also had the kids they enjoyed the arcade and gem mining."

Explore Cedar Point Amusement Park: Staying at Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point puts you within walking distance of world-class roller coasters. "Walk right into the park or swim park! Literally the best way to stay at Cedar Point!!!" explains Malinda B. The campground provides early entry benefits as Elise A. notes: "The campground stay also included early entry passes into the park at 8:45 AM before the opening for regular entry at 10:00 am."

Local attractions within 30 minutes: Visit Marblehead Lighthouse for photography opportunities or explore East Harbor State Park beach. Ashley R. from Cedarlane RV Resort describes: "We visited east harbor state park while there and the beach was weird, there's a rock wall bordering the lake so you have to either climb down the low wall or walk to the designated opening in the wall but once in the water it felt like walking on play doh."

What campers like

Clean facilities with consistent maintenance: Vermilion Valley Ohio Turnpike RV Lot receives praise for its upkeep. "The actual service station across the way was incredibly clean and comfortable. 3 or 4 restaurants, Starbucks, maps and guidebooks available," notes Gayle N. The convenient services make overnight stops comfortable.

Family-friendly amenities: Cedarlane RV Resort offers multiple recreation options including pools and splash pads. Jeffrey C. shares: "This campground has a little bit of everything. Rv parking, tent sites and several cabins to rent. Has lots of stuff for kids to do. Pools are small and can be a little crowded during the summer on weekends. They have a great splash pad and wading pool for kids."

Concrete pad sites at premium locations: RVers appreciate the level sites at Lighthouse Point. Chuck E. reports: "Concrete pads. Level! Full hookups were simple to use. The pool area was super clean. One of the thinks I liked best was there was a garbage can on every site!" The campground's landscaping adds privacy between sites as another camper mentions: "Close to neighbors, but some well-placed shrubbery makes it feel private."

What you should know

Site leveling challenges: Some RV campgrounds in Bay Village area require equipment for leveling. Sue B. from Gotta Getaway RV Park notes: "Unfortunately, the site we were assigned took three blocks to level up, the power was on the wrong side and our picnic table was in the back area of another camper."

Seasonal operations: Most campgrounds close during winter months. American Wilderness Campground operates from April 28 to October 15, while Gotta Getaway RV Park runs from May 1 to October 31. Plan accordingly when scheduling trips to the region.

Varying bathroom conditions: Facilities range widely between campgrounds. One camper at Sandusky Milan RV Park reported: "Bathrooms were disgusting and I couldn't use them. Chose to hold off on shower till I got home." However, a more recent review notes: "This campground has been wonderfully updated! The owners have added in an additional playground, dog park, newly paved roadways, newly redone building."

Tips for camping with families

Book premium sites during peak season: At Cedarlane RV Resort, weekends fill quickly during summer. Toni Marie C. recommends: "We stayed at this resort when we were not able to get in to the Sandusky KOA. I am so glad that we did. It was amazing. I plan to return again asap!"

Consider wildlife encounters: Roundup Lake RV Resort has a lake that attracts wildlife. Brandy Q. mentions: "Campsites surround a sizable lake which boasts inflatables as well as enough room for self-propelled water crafts. That said, there are also a large number of Canadian geese which love the huge lake, so I'm sure goose landmine dodging is also a sport for families who stay here."

Pack extra recreation gear: Campgrounds offer varying amenities for children. Jessica J. notes about American Wilderness: "We love the fishing available here we also had the kids they enjoyed the arcade and gem mining we also liked the access to self serve laundry and camp store as well."

Tips from RVers

Overnight transit stops: Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds provides basic overnight parking for RVers passing through. Frank G. shares: "Pulled in around midnight on a Wednesday and there were just two other vans parked overnight. Plenty of space if you just need to crash."

Electric adapter planning: Fort Firelands RV Park uses 50-amp service primarily. Renee L. advises: "The electric is 50 amp. They have connectors you can use for a $25 deposit and then get your money back when you return the cord. They accept check and cash, no credit cards."

Site selection strategy: Choose end sites when possible at waterfront locations. Lisa K. from Fort Firelands RV Park recommends: "We had the best lot in the place! We were on the end (which is always a plus for us), and were able to see Lake Erie!" For premium sites with lake views at Roundup Lake, reserve well in advance.
