Best RV Parks & Resorts near Amherst, OH

Vermilion Valley Ohio Turnpike RV Lot provides year-round RV camping directly in Amherst, with electric hookups and 50-amp service for big rigs. This unique rest area setup offers overnight stays for $20 with convenient access to drinking water, showers, and a sanitary dump station as you exit. Several additional RV parks are located within a 30-minute drive, including Riverview RV Park in Vermilion (open May through mid-October) with full hookups and big rig-friendly sites. Gotta Getaway RV Park in Bellevue features 102 sites with both 30 and 50-amp service options, operating seasonally from May through October. "It would be a bonus for big rigs as the pull-throughs are flat and easy to get into," notes one RV traveler about Gotta Getaway, though they mentioned needing blocks to level at their particular site.

For RV campers planning extended stays, Sandusky Milan RV Park has recently undergone significant upgrades with newly paved roadways and full hookup sites. Most parks in the region welcome pets and provide standard amenities like showers and toilets. Cell service is generally strong throughout the area, with one reviewer noting "ATT cell coverage was full" at a nearby campground. The proximity to Lake Erie attractions makes these RV sites popular during summer months, so advance reservations are recommended, particularly for weekend stays. Dump stations are available at most parks, though quality varies - one traveler mentioned disappointment with a dump station that "had no water hose fitting on it, so no way to rinse our blackwater tank." Many RV parks in the region close for winter, making the year-round availability of Vermilion Valley particularly valuable for off-season travelers.

    East Harbor State Park Campground

Spacious campground with nice beach on Lake Erie

Ohio’s largest state park. Can accommodate big rigs. Most sites are electric, a few with full hookups. Many pull through sites. Very scenic

    Gotta Getaway RV Park

    Ok

This was an overnight stay on our way to Pennsylvania. It would be a bonus for big rigs as the pull Throughs are flat and easy to get into. We tend to prefer a back in because it usually gives us a bit more protection on the backside. Unfortunately, the site we were assigned took three blocks to level up, the the power was on the wrong side and our picnic table was in the back area of another camper. The bathroom was nice and close and handy. Some great effort has been made to make it attractive with two-tone tile but that is all overshadowed by the amount of spiders and bugs. I am a full-time RV year and shower all over the United States and this was one of the buggiest ever. The majority of this campground is for seasonals. There are some very nice seasonal lots with a small pond in their back Yard. The owner was very friendly and helpful on the phone. Serves a variety of needs.

    Lighthouse Point at Cedar Point

    Immaculate!

Absolutely beautiful RV park! Gorgeous views of Lake Erie and walking distance to the gate of Cedar Point. Beautiful landscaping and very clean. Staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Good little camp store with reasonable(ish) prices. Too chilly to swim but the pool looks nice. Bathhouses are updated, clean and very nice, but pretty far from about half of the sites. One section has premium sites with upgraded grills and fire pits and crazy good lake views. The regular sites are still well landscaped and each have a grill and an extra long picnic table, but no fire pit. You can bring your own fire pit if your site doesn't have one. No bikes or golf carts allowed on the grounds, but there are Cedar Point buses available day & night as well as rickshaws during the day. Until now I have held Disney World's Fort Wilderness as the penultimate place for camping but they could learn a few things from Cedar Point! We stayed five nights in a pull through sites, #231. I would love to snag a premium site for our next trip but it may be difficult because they allow you to book up five years in advance!

    Timber Ridge Campgrounds

    Great Experience

We stayed at Timber Ridge for a month and found this to be a very nice campground. Stores are very level, full hookups, fishing pond, amazing indoor swimming pool. Staff was extremely nice. Many if the campers are long term but have several overnight doors as well.

We stayed in a 29ft Travel Trailer, but sites could handle the largest of rigs.

    Outstanding site in great campground

Stayed on a premium patio site and loved it. The campground and staff were awesome. Level site, great hook ups, awesome WiFi and cable. Clean facilities, 3 lakes (one with a fishing pier), 2 dog parks, and super friendly staff. 30 min to Cleveland. Walmart, gas stations and restaurants within 5 miles. Just off Ohio Turnpike, but can't hear it. Definitely recommend this KOA

    East Harbor State Park Campground

    East harbor state park

Very clean. Close to everything you need close to ferry clean showers camp monitors were friendly sites are paved. 50/30 amp hookups Our site was just a standard electric site. They do have 150 full hook up sites or more. We made our reservations late we were not really concerned about water or sewer as we planned to use the camp ground facilities anyway. Fresh water is available to fill your holding tanks. Dump stations are easily acceptable as are water filling stations Big Boopers restaurant is a great place for breakfast lunch or dinner. If you do t feel like cooking it’s about a 10 min drive. Campground has very good WiFi. We have Verizon had very good reception inland and I. The islands. Bass island is a fun day trip. Sites were level left to right. Had a slight pitch front to back.

Crystal Rock Campground - Sandusky, OH

    Clean & cute

This campground was family friendly, dog friendly, and very clean. About 30 minutes from cedar point. Our only complaint and the reason we’re docking a star is because our site was right next to a giant generator that seems to run 24/7 and sites seemed a little tight. Otherwise we enjoyed this campground very much.

    Great stop for one night

Great campground on the smaller side, so not too much traffic driving around. Our site was gravel and fairly unlevel. Did our best to level it out but still have water collecting to the left. We lucked out and got a pull through last minute.

Water pressure was low. ATT cell coverage was full. Lots of shade so couldn’t use our Starlink internet but the campground internet was great. Even had video camera meetings on it while working in the morning.

Worth noting we were having some rig problems (slide out stuck in) and after calling four local places not one of them returned our calls. Only stayed the one night because we need to move on to get this fixed.

    East Harbor State Park Campground

    Another great Ohio State Park

General: This campground is huge with a mix of FHU (some back-in and some pull-through), electric hookup, no hookup, group sites, cabins, and one yurt. On a Monday night in June, many of the sites were occupied.

Site Quality: All camper pads were paved and appeared level. Some sites were a little close together but there was reasonable separation and there was plenty of foliage. Site H3 was a good one as it had no site next to it on one side.

Bath/Shower house: In our loop, the bathhouse was clean. It took a while for the water to get hot but once it did, it was very hot. The water pressure was very good. The only problem with the shower was that water leaked out onto the floor outside and there always appeared to be a lot of water, which could pose a slipping hazard.

Activities/Amenities: A camper store and nature center, game room, laundry, dump station and potable water, disc golf, hiking trails, multi-use trails, marina (for large boats, not kayaks or SUPS), basketball, volleyball, archery, fish cleaning station. I think I mentioned everything!

We enjoyed our two-night stay here, and if/when we return, we would consider taking a ferry to some of the smaller islands nearby.
