Best Campgrounds near Deerfield, OH

Campgrounds near Deerfield, Ohio range from rustic tent sites to full-service RV parks with many located along lake shores and forested areas. Philabauns Hidden Cove Resort on Edgewater Boulevard offers cabin rentals alongside tent and RV camping on Berlin Lake, while West Branch State Park Campground provides a mix of accommodation types including tents, RVs, cabins, and yurts. The region includes several established campgrounds with varying levels of amenities, most within proximity to water features like Berlin Lake, Kirwan Reservoir, and smaller ponds.

Most campgrounds in the area operate seasonally from April or May through mid-October, with limited year-round options. Access roads are generally well-maintained with both pull-through and back-in sites available at most locations. "A beautiful park with many campers having views of the beautiful lake and the Pennsylvania shoreline," noted one visitor about Pymatuning State Park, highlighting the popular waterfront camping in the region. Electric hookups are common at developed sites, while full hookup options with sewer and water connections are available at private campgrounds like KOA Lake Milton Berlin Lake and Cuttys Sunset Camping Resort. Weather conditions are typically mild during the camping season, though summer thunderstorms can occur.

Campers report high satisfaction with lakefront sites, particularly those offering fishing access and boat launches. West Branch State Park receives consistent praise for its amenities and natural setting, with one visitor describing it as "a great find" where "the beach is never too packed." Several campgrounds feature playgrounds, pavilions, and swimming areas making them suitable for family camping trips. Site privacy varies considerably across the region, with some campgrounds offering wooded separation between sites while others have more open layouts. Tent campers may find limited options at some primarily RV-focused facilities, as one reviewer noted about Atwood Lake Park: "This campground is huge, absolutely jam packed with RVs and permanent trailers... not recommended for tent campers."

    Bear Run Campground

    Options.

This is an amazing campground with reasonable prices, an array of camping options to suit different camping needs as well as budget range. I am unsure if I just happen to have gotten lucky and decided to go camping during a special weekend, but it’s Labor Day weekend and I am loving that there is a calendar of events for campers to participate in if they choose to. Activities include wagon rides to the lake, talent show, karaoke…etc, as well as church! This was an unexpected gem as we are from Florida and were blessed enough to stumble upon the right person in a parking lot when my husband asked if they knew of any places that we could possibly camp at nearby and that gentleman told us about Moraine Park. Upon making our way out to here, we found Bear Run and have loved our experience so far. Love it!

    Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA

Quiet, peaceful, close to all the things

We stopped here for a couple nights to go to a Cleveland Guardians game and go to Cuyahoga National Park. It was within great proximity to both and had all the amenities the kids and I love. Swimming (wish it were open a little later…) laundry 24/7, a game room, store with just what we needed to pick up a few things, a pond that seemed to always have someone fishing at it (that’s a good thing) and a big wide sites to spread out and have a nice campfire in. (Wood available 24/7 and trash pick up at the site in the AM). It’s always nerve wracking when the fire pits are close to the rigs - loved that these sits were wide. And while there are likely people here it feels nice and spread out.

    Woodside Lake Park

Old Park With Iron Laden Well Water Beware

I stayed at this park for 2 months in 2023 and was planing on staying for 5 months in 2025. I left after 2 months due to iron& sulfur laden well water that is provided in at least half the park. I spent hundreds of dollars trying to filter and clean up the water to no avail. It damages everything and they won't put a treatment system in at the well pump like the 2nd well has so you can filter it to an acceptable level for drinking, cooking, washing etc.

In 2023 I was in a section that was treated and my filters/softener did a acceptable job to make it work. I Used the laundry facilities also. This trip to see family in 2025 I was in a different section and by the second day it was unacceptable disgusting turbid rusty water with sulfur odor. I bought additional filters for Ferrous Iron Water treatment and remediation along with iron out chemical for cleaning fixtures and plumbing system on the camper. It barely worked well enough for a couple weeks between filter changes and rinsing the system for shower use. I Had to buy drinking water in town every few days for cooking, drinking and brushing teeth etc.

New owners bought the park in 2023 and have increased monthly rent from$750 a month to$950 a month but don't seem to care enough about the health and comfort of their guest to do anything with the well water for a majority of the park. Let alone any of the other infrastructure or"amenities" to be generous in there reference This year even the laundry machines where too disgusting to use that we had to go into town for laundry also.

The park needs major renovations to just bring it up to modern standards. The bath house is in decrepit condition moldy smelly and barely cleaned anytime I was over there. Site pads are rip rap 1" to 4" size rock with no fine rock coverings, or in some areas smoother rock and dirt but nowhere close to flat or level. Water drainage when its raining is deplorable and you very well might be in a mud pit at your doorway.

It's sad there are no decent RV parks in the Cleveland area, just old campgrounds that have added hook-ups and market themselves as RV parks and now charge like they are RV Resorts. Reserve a space at your own risk and definitely verify where and what water source you are on. Bring plenty of filters and plan on sanitizing your system after staying there.

    Silver Springs Campground

    Affordable

The lots are nice and large. The main problem was very hard to level and soft grass they don’t have a well compacted area for your tt/rv. Would be nice to have bathroom built on the campground. Have to walk to the baseball field to use the bathrooms. Overall had a good time with my family.

    Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground

    Great community

When I first got here the 2 owners went above and beyond in so many ways. Unfortunately they didn’t have a 50 amp site available so the owner gave me 30 amp converter at no cost and also helped me hook up my gray water and black water connections. They keep the area pristine and welcome everyone as if they are family.

    Salem-Lisbon Ohio KOA

    Nice All Year Around Camping

This was an awesome place for a winter trip! The tent sites were big and right on the lake. Everyone was so kind!

Guide to Deerfield

Camping options near Deerfield, Ohio cluster mainly along Berlin Lake and extend toward Lake Milton and Kirwan Reservoir. The region features elevation changes between 900-1,100 feet, creating varied shoreline camping experiences with several sites positioned on hillsides overlooking water. Winter closures are common from late October through April, though a few campgrounds like Salem-Lisbon KOA remain open year-round with limited amenities during colder months.

What to do

Fishing access from campsites: At Mill Creek Camping, waterfront sites provide direct fishing opportunities. "We were fortunate that our spot was right beside the lake and we could keep the boat docked there during our stay," explains one camper at Mill Creek Camping — Berlin Lake Wildlife Area. The reservoir supports multiple fish species with many campsites offering shoreline casting.

Hiking on adjacent trails: Countryside Campground connects to nearby trails leading to Mogadore Reservoir. "The Buckeye trail connects to the footpath down to the reservoir," notes a visitor who adds that "there is a dock just outside of the campground if carrying is not your thing." Trail difficulty ranges from easy walking paths to more challenging terrain.

Water play options: West Branch State Park Campground offers multiple water recreation options with both designated and informal swimming areas. "The camper beach was small but nice and clean. We also took the inflatable kayaks out on the lake twice and it was so smooth and clear," reports one visitor who stayed at site 190.

What campers like

Private waterfront sites: Many campers appreciate the lakeside options at West Branch State Park. "Great site! Shaded lots of space semi private area. Right off the water with area to tie boat for easy water access," writes one visitor who gave the park five stars. Sites along the water typically cost $5-10 more than standard sites.

Clean, modern facilities: Silver Springs Campground receives praise for its well-maintained amenities despite being a smaller operation. "Staff was very friendly as they made their rounds! We checked in late and they came around and gathered our info and told us about the place," notes a camper who appreciated the organized management.

Dog-friendly options: Several campgrounds accommodate pets with dedicated areas. "I love this campground. Nice people and very clean! Lots of nice sites," writes a visitor to West Branch who gave the park five stars in their review. Silver Springs features what one reviewer called "THE best dog park I have ever seen in this area."

What you should know

Site leveling challenges: Many campgrounds in the region have sloping terrain requiring equipment. "We were only off 2 inches side to side but front to back we had to lower the front 15 inches. The jack was down as low as it would go and we were still off by 1.5 inches," explains a West Branch camper about site 190.

Weekend noise levels: Cuttys Sunset Camping Resort can become busy during summer weekends. "The place is nice. The main thing is the spots are soooo small. You open your door and there is a picnic table and then the next camper. Really no room," notes one visitor who rated their stay three stars.

Early check-in fees: Some private campgrounds charge additional fees for arriving before standard check-in times. At KOA Lake Milton Berlin Lake, one visitor reported: "He got there around 12:30 in the afternoon and they charged him $15 for early check in. It was a tent site, in a field, with no power."

Tips for camping with families

Kid-focused amenities: KOA Lake Milton Berlin Lake offers organized activities throughout the season. "The kids were trick or treating to each camp spot," observed one visitor at Countryside Campground in October. Most family-oriented campgrounds schedule weekend events from May through September.

Swimming options for different ages: Look for campgrounds with designated swimming areas. "They have a nice train ride. A nice short walk takes you to Mogadore reservoir. Due to cooler temps pool was closed. The small putt putt course was still open for kids to play," reports a family who stayed at Countryside with three kids and two dogs.

Book waterfront sites early: Lakeside spots fill quickly, especially at state parks. "Make reservations! (6 months in advance). Waterside sites fill up quickly!" advises one camper about Salem-Lisbon Ohio KOA, adding "This was an awesome place for a winter trip! The tent sites were big and right on the lake."

Tips from RVers

Electrical hookup variations: Check amperage before booking as options vary widely. "Sites are RV and tent sites. They offer coupons for return campers," notes a Silver Springs visitor, while another West Branch reviewer mentions "We're at site 160. No electricity, no hookups, but a HUGE lakefront site."

Mud preparation: Many campgrounds have drainage issues after rain. "The campground is large with gravel sites. When we arrived the kids were trick or treating to each camp spot," observed a visitor at Countryside, while another noted the site wetness: "It's been raining and our step out is into mud. To be expected in the area during the winter."

Campsite privacy considerations: Site spacing varies significantly between campgrounds. "We had a group site with friends along a wooded section. Every night we were visited by raccoons," reports a visitor to Streetsboro-Cleveland SE KOA who recommends securing food items nightly, especially when staying in wooded sections.
