The region includes established campgrounds like Morrow Mountain State Park and Badin Lake Campground, alongside dispersed camping options in Uwharrie National Forest. Most facilities accommodate both tent and RV camping, with several locations like Norwood Campground and Cane Creek Park also offering cabin rentals. These mixed-use campgrounds typically provide amenities ranging from basic pit toilets and fire rings to full hookups with water and electricity, depending on the specific location.

Road conditions and site accessibility vary throughout the region, with some areas requiring careful navigation. A camper noted, "The drive down the trail can be a bit much if you're in a smaller car like we were, we had to drive slowly down because of all of the rocks." Many campgrounds in the Uwharrie area feature both upper and lower camping loops, with lakeside sites being particularly popular at Badin Lake. Cell service can be inconsistent, especially in more remote areas, though some visitors report adequate coverage at certain campgrounds. Weather remains mild enough for year-round camping at many locations, though spring rainfall may affect trail conditions and water crossings in the national forest.

According to one visitor, "Sites along Badin Lake in the lower loop are often reserved. The surroundings are beautiful!" Campgrounds in the region generally provide spacious sites with good separation and natural vegetation for privacy. The Uwharrie National Forest area appeals to various recreational interests beyond camping, including hiking, fishing, mountain biking, and off-road vehicle trails. Quieter camping experiences can typically be found midweek, as weekends tend to draw larger crowds, especially during peak seasons. Many campgrounds near Wadesboro balance natural settings with convenient access to small towns for supplies and necessities.

    Sycamore Lodge

    Beautiful forest camping

The campground is in an old pine forest with a few sycamore trees. Our site is smaller than most with 30amps, water and sewer. The resort is well maintained and very clean. Gravel roads and sites with a thick covering of pine needles between.

Standing Pines RV Resort & Campground

Peaceful, clean, and super friendly new RV park (Free WiFi)

We stayed at Standing Pines RV Park in Hartsville, South Carolina and were really impressed. This is a newer park, but you can tell the owners put a lot of care into the property. The grounds are clean, quiet, and surrounded by tall trees, which creates a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere while still being close to town. The sites are level, spacious, and easy to back into. Full hookups worked perfectly. Cell service was strong enough for remote work and streaming. The park roads are wide and well maintained, which makes everything simple when arriving or setting up. The overall vibe is calm, safe, and welcoming. The owners are helpful and available without being intrusive. It already feels like a comfortable home base and it is clear the park is being built the right way. If you are passing through Hartsville, working in the area, or looking for a quiet place to stay for a while, Standing Pines RV Park is a great choice. Very clean, very relaxing, and we will definitely return.

    Crown Cove RV Park

    Unfriendly and Poorly Maintained

This is a very strange place. The vibe is way off. I stayed for 2 weeks and that was 2 weeks too long. The staff are not friendly or helpful. And they use THE RULES as a means to justify their behavior. They will literally yell at you. I have no idea who these people think they are. Don’t waste your hard earned money with people like this. Day One: Huge ant infestation. Spent the next several days exterminating. Not fun. Much of the sites are not well kept. Way out of level. I had requested an open sky for my Starlink connection. It seems like they gave me the only spot with tree cover. There are dozens of other vacant spots with an open view. Weird but okay… They will not accept packages. So, don’t bother ordering anything unless you can pickup at a nearby locker. This is crazy! One day a distraught camper with tears running down her face approached me while I was outside my rig. Turns out her dog died and she needed help moving the body. Maintenance told her they couldn’t help because of THE RULES. I, of course, helped her move the body to her car. This just seems inhuman.

The hosts where active and there if you wanted advice. At the campground you can't swim, but you can walk 10 minutes to a beachy area on the other site of the lake.

Off-season access benefits: Multiple campgrounds become less crowded outside summer months. One camper shared, "Barely anyone here in December, so it feels so nice to be out of our house but not needing masks constantly."

The family campground is separated from the road by some trees but there is still noise from cars, like in any family campground I suppose."

The pool doesn't have normal steps that you walk down into the pool on, they only have the ladder steps which make it a little tricky getting in with a small child."
