Best Campgrounds near Kattskill Bay, NY

Kattskill Bay, New York provides access to established camping areas along the Lake George region. Campgrounds such as Lake George Escape Campground, Moose Hillock Camping Resorts, and Hearthstone Point Campground accommodate various camping styles including tent sites, RV hookups, and cabin rentals. Many campgrounds in this area feature lake access with boat-in camping options, particularly at the Lake George Islands where sites on Long Island, Glen Island, and Turtle Island offer unique water-oriented camping experiences.

The camping season in the Lake George area typically runs from mid-May through mid-October, with most campgrounds closing after Columbus Day. Reservations are strongly recommended, especially for waterfront sites and island camping which fill quickly during summer months. Boat access is required for the island campgrounds, with some sites offering private docks for mooring. Many campgrounds provide full hookups for RVs with 50-amp service, while tent campers can find both primitive and improved sites throughout the region. One camper noted, "Definitely need a decent sized boat with a gas outboard to get there, but wow. What an experience."

Lake George waterfront camping distinguishes this region, with island camping being particularly popular. Several campgrounds offer direct lake access, swimming beaches, and boat rentals. The Lake George Islands provide a unique camping experience with sites scattered across various islands including Long Island, Glen Island, and Turtle Island groups. While views and water access receive high praise, amenities vary significantly between locations. Some campers report issues with site maintenance on the islands, while developed mainland campgrounds offer more consistent facilities. A reviewer described their experience: "Worth a trip from just about anywhere. Absolutely beautiful and you can't beat camping on an island." Mainland campgrounds like Hearthstone Point offer a balance between lake access and proximity to the amenities of Lake George Village, making them popular for families seeking both outdoor experiences and conveniences.

Grout Pond Campground — Green Mountain & Finger Lakes National Forests

    Grout Pond Loop

Camping Grout Pond Loop is truly nice after Labor Day (Sept 5-7). Campsites 15 & 16 offer pull-out space to turn around truck campers --we lucked out w/ 4 wheel camper pop-up). Over hanging trees would make it difficult for larger equipment, plus saw posting that excludes trailers from certain roads. We reserved well in advance; however many fellow campers were trying to find first come sites and ended up hiking in to camp around pond sites. Sites are in eye-site of each other but you don't feel crowded. Temps during day around 65-70 F. Nights dipped to 45-55F.
We saw deer & turkeys driving the surrounding woods after short hikes.
We love chatting w locals and learned of a special shrine that was faithfully built from stone to resemble original in modern day Turkey. What a special & serene place.

Statton Pond Camp on Forest Road 71

Large Area with Fire Pit in the middle

This was a great site.  I couldn't believe that the site was not being used at all, especially the just a couple of days before Fourth of July weekend.  Many other sites further south on 71 were filled and some were just TTs holding the space for the upcoming weekend.

The site was very flat and could accommodate several small campers.  It was quiet during our overnight stay other than a car or two on Stratton-Arlington Rd.  There weren't many mosquitoes either.  Hiking trail to Stratton Pond close by.

    Rogers Rock Campground

    Roger's Rock

It was a pretty good park. Wooded nicely. Big lots where we were. Down near the water the sites were pretty crammed together Not parked in a row like an RV park.

    Chittenden Brook Campground

    Great site

This was a great site that feels secluded but isn’t. There’s quite a bit of space between each site so you can’t really see your neighbors which is excellent. The vault toilets were surprisingly clean besides the expected smell/flies. No running water or electricity. No cell service a few miles leading up the site, so download your maps in advance. There’s a 2.5 mile dirt road with a steady incline into the camp, which my subie had no issue with, but not sure how well an RV would fair.

Didn’t see any bear, but take bear food precautions regardless. Each site has a fire pit, tent platform, and picnic table. The sites were well cared for. There were two dumpsters, one for recycling and one for trash, at the end of the loop. They are bear proof and almost me proof! The constant sound of running water from the brook was truly relaxing. I didn’t have issues with bugs (beginning of August) but I also didn’t stay in the camp during the majority of the day.

All in all, a great campsite and I’ll definitely be back.

    Lake George RV Park

    Best campground we’ve stayed at

We’ve stayed here three times now and it never disappoints! Well maintained from the roads now to the gardens. They pay attention to every detail. Staff is super friendly and honestly seemed very happy to work there. Only complaint is we wished we lived closer so we could go more often. We will definitely be back!

    Lake Harris Campground

    Perfect Campsite

The campsite has clean bathrooms. The campsite itself is more secluded and there wasn’t a lot of people or noise. It was intimate and quiet, no loud people or families. Honestly the perfect getaway.

    Coolidge State Park Campground Vermont

    Views to Write Home About

We have been camping at lean-to sites here for almost 20 years. The views from the prime sites are breathtaking. The bathrooms are updated and have been well maintained.Although there is no swimming in the campground, the state park a few miles away is included with the park pass and has a nice lake beach, although no dogs are allowed.

    Schroon River Campsites Inc

    Not as described

Stayed in cabin #84 for 2 nights. Dirty cabin. Worst part was the description which was “sleeps 4.” Queen bed also in description. Not a Queen bed, but rather, full. Only sheets for the bed were provided. Very small and uncomfortable futon plus an air mattress were the other choices for 2 sleepers. But, no bedding? You’re kidding…how does this sleep 4 if you don’t provide bedding? Towels were very thin. All in all, definitely NOT worth $300 per night. The same rate as a canon with 2 actual beds. I would not stay here again.
