      Niagara Falls/Grand Island KOA Holiday

      Decent Campground

Sights aren’t super level but that just helps with snuggling. Full hookups. They deliver firewood and pickup trash. Staff is nice. Main bath house could use an update but there are private “family” restrooms with shower that look pretty nice. Good store( I got a nice fire poker). Unfortunately it’s close to the highway and it’s loud! If you are going to the falls you can just catch the city bus back and forth($2 dollars per person each way, 2026).

The campground is amazing!  So peaceful and relaxing!  Away from the city life and hearing nature makes you at ease.

The owner is a sweet and kind woman.  Just learned she's owned it for the last 20 years!  Here's to another 20 more!  Great job!

      We will be returning annually!!!

Four Mile Creek State Park Campground

      Beautiful state park

Four mile creek state park spacious with beautiful mature trees and is alongside the stunning Lake Ontario. The grounds are lush and green and well tended. Some sites get very waterlogged when it rains. We were in 306 and 307 and we had ponds around the campsite. Restrooms and showers are very nice.

      East Otto State Forest

      Good and Free

I stayed for one night on my way to Niagara Falls. Google map directions end at a house but keep driving straight and you’ll see the sign of the park and directions to campground.-easy to find. I got to use my generator and was not too busy. I did notice a camper that belonged to someone that was living in it full time but parked away from it. I have a 16 ft long travel trailer and worked great. It gets very muddy after rain (just saying)

      Daisy Barn Campground

Avoid Daisy Barn Camping - Questionable Cancellation Policy

I have not stayed here-The reservation was for late June 2026

I reserved a one night primitive site for $65.30 and canceled 104 days in advance due to a change in travel plans. I was initially sent a receipt showing a refund would be issued, but it never showed up.

When I called, I was told by Kim that the full payment was considered a “non-refundable deposit,” even though it was the entire cost of the stay. After pushing back, I was told by Kim that a credit would be issued - but I still have not received anything.

It was also difficult to get in touch with someone by phone.

Cancelling more than three months in advance should give them plenty of time to rebook the site. The way their refund policy was explained feels more like a revenue tactic than a fair policy.

I would not book again with Daisy Barn Campground

      Palmers Pond State Forest

      Beautiful spot!

Will absolutely be back here. Easy to find with multiple spots around the pond. Stayed in the furthest spot, just past the parking lot. Fire pit and pond access. Cleaned up a bunch of diapers and some socks though (shame!). Please leave it better than you found it.

      Niagara Falls/Grand Island KOA Holiday

      Large KOA

This was a large KOA campground with many sites, cabins, activity center, etc. We were there in late October and it was partially closed down. Quite pricey. Clean facilities. Somewhat close to interstate noise. Convenient to access Niagara Falls.

    Guide to Darien Center

Cabin options abound in campgrounds near Darien Center, New York, where mixed forest terrain creates natural privacy between sites. The region sits between Rochester and Buffalo at approximately 900 feet elevation, creating mild summer conditions with occasional thunderstorms. Most cabin accommodations require advance reservations up to six months ahead for summer weekends, particularly for sites nearest to water features or with electrical hookups.

    What to do

Water recreation at state park: Darien Lakes State Park Campground offers fishing and paddling opportunities on its small lake. "I live local to the area and still find a time to setup the tent and enjoy some peace and quiet away from the noise of daily life. There are miles of hiking trails, nice 'lakes' to fish and swim in," writes Jeremy H.

Winter activities: Winter camping opportunities exist for those seeking solitude. "We did some winter camping here. We backpacked into the lean to along the Conservation Trail. It was in good condition and we had a large clearing for activities," explains Leah W. about Darien Lakes State Park during off-season.

Hike the Conservation Trail: Several miles of maintained trails connect camping areas to fishing spots and natural areas. The Conservation Trail passes through wooded sections with occasional wildlife viewing opportunities. Sites near trailheads fill quickly during summer months.

Theme park entertainment: Six Flags Darien Lake Campground provides direct access to rides and entertainment. "The campground is about 20-25 miles from downtown Rochester and located in a quiet rural setting surrounded by farmland," notes Nancy W. Sites nearest the park entrance command premium rates but reduce transportation needs.

    What campers like

Clean facilities: Multiple campgrounds maintain high cleanliness standards for comfort stations. "Clean bath houses an a relaxing atmosphere. Not much to do but fish or walk trails but that's how we like it. Nice park to go to after a long day at the falls. Just relax by the fire," writes Dawn T. about Darien Lakes.

Spacious sites: Cherry Hill Campground receives praise for its site layout. "Cherry Hills campground lives up to its claim to bring you as close to nature as possible. The grounds are well manicured without looking unnatural, the sites are very spacious," notes Sinclaire B.

Quieter alternatives: Smaller campgrounds provide refuge from theme park crowds. "This park is a nicely kept, clean and quiet gem. This campground would be a good alternative to paying the high prices to stay at the theme park down the road," states Jeremy H. about Darien Lakes State Park.

Staff responsiveness: Campground staff help with unexpected issues. "We needed help with our water heater in our own RV and the camp team sent over a mechanic to sort it out within minutes. Free of charge," reports lionel O. at Six Flags Darien Lake Campground.

    What you should know

Weekend crowds: Capacity changes dramatically between weekdays and weekends. "We were there on a weekday, told weekends are busy," explains Carol B. about Darien Lakes State Park. Noise levels increase substantially on weekends at most campgrounds in the area.

Train noise: Railroad tracks near some campgrounds cause periodic disruption. "There was a train track close to camping," notes Donna M. about Six Flags Darien Lake Campground. Sites furthest from the tracks provide quieter sleeping conditions.

Concert season considerations: Sleepy Hollow Lake Campground and others experience significant changes during event weekends. "I haven't been here in a while but people mostly stay here for one of two reason. Because they don't want to drive home drunk from a concert, or they have 14 loud kids that want to be at the amusement park," explains Laura Nicole A.

Limited shuttle options: Transportation between campgrounds and concert venues requires planning. "Getting back across the road to the campground can be challenging. Due to some dummy a few years ago getting hit by a car, and also Darien Lake's greed, walking back to the campground is disallowed," warns Cory W. about Cherry Hill.

    Tips for camping with families

Kids entertainment options: Jellystone Park of Western New York provides structured activities. "What are the best things about this National Park is that you feel like you were in a Yogi Bear show although there is still a ton of beautiful nature to enjoy the novelty of Yogi Bear is always around," notes Jill R.

Pool policies: Swimming facility rules vary significantly between campgrounds. "My only real issue is the ridiculous two adult pool rule if you are with kids. They had to get out because 'there has to be two adults and one has to stay on deck,'" reports Sara D. about Beaver Meadow Family Campground.

Playground access: Multiple campgrounds offer play structures of varying quality. "Very nice family oriented campground. The grounds are very well kept. Playgrounds were nice for kids," notes Erica L.

Off-season discounts: Family camping becomes more affordable and less crowded during spring and fall. "Pricey for off-season," notes Amanda K. about Beaver Meadow, suggesting negotiable rates during slower periods.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection priorities: RV sites vary considerably in space and hookup availability. "The sites are very nice and well maintained. There are campers for rent, cabins for rent, tent sites, RV sites and premium RV sites," explains Mary H. about Six Flags Darien Lake.

Power requirements: Southwoods RV Resort offers reliable electrical service. "We chose a back-in 50-amp full hook-up site (M28) at $42/night. All the utilities were placed appropriately so we didn't need any extensions. The water pressure and electric were good," reports Nancy W.

Drainage considerations: Spring camping requires attention to site conditions. "Early season conditions were wet and the owners let me pick my site because the one I had reserved was muddy," notes Wilson W. about Cherry Hill Campground.

Advance reservations: RV sites with full hookups book earliest, especially during holiday weekends. Some campgrounds offer group areas for multiple RVs traveling together.
