Probably not a must have, but I highly recommend a four-wheel-drive high clearance to get back into the camp spots here, but there are a handful of spots. Just keep going further back in there either on the left or the right. Give you a good view of Los Alamos and some snow covered peaks.
We found it to be clean ,open flat ground to camp on . Spent a couple of days . Beautiful spot .
Road closed
Pretty rough getting here as neighbors are sabotaging the road making it narrow using loose gravel & boulders on turns. There is now a locked gate on Palomino to keep non-locals out! 😏 once there we so enjoyed the views, sunsets, city lights & stars! 9 wild horses came to visit too!
There was a bit too much activity going on for me. 3 to 4 dune buggies going around me on the tracks. Heard some popping like revving of an engine. Went motel instead

Could not get to camping area because the road was so bad.
Follow the directions in the app to avoid the private roads. It’s pretty easy to find. The road in is a little rocky but there is plenty of space and is a nice area.
