North Area Campground — Storrie Lake State Park

Anglers and boaters find direct lake access at North Area Campground, which sits along the shoreline of Storrie Lake with sites facing the water. Each campsite includes an adobe-style shelter housing a picnic table, providing covered space for meals and gear storage. The campground accommodates RVs up to 40 feet with electric, water, and sewer hookups available at most sites, plus a dump station for those without sewer connections.

Sites spread out with generous spacing between neighbors, and Tom C. notes that "each site has a great view of the lake." The proximity to Highway 518 creates some road noise, though campers report geese and songbirds from the lake often mask traffic sounds. Residential homes border the back of some campsites, creating a mixed setting between natural and developed areas.

Fishing opportunities extend directly from the campground shoreline into Storrie Lake. Swimming is permitted in designated areas. A large open field provides space for activities, and a playground serves families with children. The South Area Campground — Storrie Lake State Park offers additional sites within the same park system.

Seasonal operations significantly impact amenities and access. From October through March, water gets shut off at individual sites except for one spigot serving the entire park, and the main restroom facilities close in favor of portable toilets. The entry gate locks at 5 PM during winter months with no after-hours entry code, requiring campers to return before closure or park outside and walk in. Debbie W. summarizes: "Other than the water issue and gate closer no other complaints."

Rates range from $8 for primitive sites to $14-16 for electric hookups during off-season, with full-service sites reaching $20-30 in peak season. Reservations help secure lakefront positions during busy periods.

Pretty views & good sized lake

Pretty spot with a small town close by for supplies. Take heed about the gate closing at 5pm. That's bit me a couple of times.

I like all of the lake activities happening around me during the summer. It feels like a good time, park wide. I enjoy flying kits near the water. Because it's so open there's not a lot of shade so I appreciate the sites with the shelter.

It can get a bit windy during the earlier months but during the summer it seems to calm down.

My dog enjoys the birds and playing in the water so it's extra fun for him

Inexpensive full hookup

Gate closed at 5pm

This time of year water is shut off except for one spigot in entire park. No water at dump station. They close entry gate at 5 pm sharp. $14 for electric sites and $8 primitive. Have a 26ft travel trailer no problem with either site. Quiet except for slight amount of road noise. Hot Springs near by. Other than the water issue and gate closer no other complaints.

Half way descent place to stay

For the month of November, it was an ok place to stay. The sites ate big and have a shelter to use, if you need. They are pretty level as well.

Just remember that during Oct - Mar, they shut off the water to each site and only leave you with electric. They also close the main bathroom/shower, there are port-o-lets outside next to them. Oh and this time of year the gates close at 5pm and there is NO way to get your vehicle back in, so you have to park it outside the fence area and walk in to your site. Other than that, it's a pretty good park to stay, for the price. We paid $16 a night and was well worth the stay.

The sites are pretty big, we have a 41' 5th wheel and had no issue getting in. Could be a bit tight of the place was full but it worked out very well.

There is a playground for the kids if you need. Fishing in the lake as well.

Will revisit, clean and spacious.

I will return to this campsite. The host, rangers and staff were all nice and approachable. The sites are kept up and there is good distance from other sites, I did stay at a non power location. There is a giant field for activities and fishing at the lake with a large Primitive area. The night sky is amazingly dark since it’s very close The town, which is why it has only four stars.

The only pro is the view

Booked a two week stay at storrie lake after coming from Ute Lake. We have a 34’ RV. It was incredibly difficult getting in, and then when we got to the campsite the spots were also tight. Not a big deal since it was just us and one other person but I can’t imagine if it was full.

We booked under the impression there was electric and water at our site, and showers and toilets on the campground (we don’t poop or shower In our rv lol).

The toilets are outhouses (for reference, Ute lake has a heated/cooled bath house and are only at one side of the RV campgrounds.

The showers are behind a fence that was locked with a key with no indication if it was temporary.

Our arrival date was on a Sunday and the other camper here informed us if you leave after 5pm the gate is locked and you can’t get back in. We’ve stayed other places that locked the gate but there was a way for you to enter a code so you could get back in. That’s not an option here. I guess you could walk in but there is no parking outside of the campsite so not sure where you’d park and then walk in. There was no indication of this in the booking email I received.

O.k. stop for overnight.

They have shelters for shade, that is part of your campsite. (Reserved spot) Just water only. We were here in late September. Very windy, and blowing dust. Thus campground is a little tired and could use some upgrading.

Great views

Pulled in after a long day drive from Denver. Campground was full but site host told us there was a now show last night for a two day reservation and we could use that site - nice people. Our site has 30 amp electric and water; there is a dump station on site. Cost was $14/night. Each site has an adobe shelter with a picnic table. There is a pit toilet and no showers. Lots of space between sites; each site has a great view of the lake.

Had to leave

This is a nice state park, and seems to be a favorite of the locals. The campsites on the north side are VERY close together and we had 2 or 3 local families with kids and dogs surrounding us. We went to a local hotel.

Nice Campground with some age

I did enjoy staying in this Campground on the North end. Nice picnic tables with protection, water at each site, trash cans nearby, and vault toilets. The parking could be refreshed but the scenery is excellent. I would have preferred site 38N

Gorgeous Sunset

This state park has nice views of the lake and mountains. The sun sets with a blaze in the sky. We stayed in the electric campground. It was weird to have homes right behind the campsites and the highway right there as well could be loud. The geese and song birds drowned it out though.

Basic but good! Primitive $8

It’s not fancy but I like that. Lots of open space, a lake for great fishing -requires day fees. Adobe style covered picnic shelters at campsites (ex basic tent). Reasonable fees. Nice park ranger! RV hookups.

Beautiful area but terribly maintained!

This could be a 5 but a 2 is all that I can muster. They shut off ALL water on October first and fail to put that into the reservation site or make it clear at the self pay. The gate closes at 5PM after Oct 1 also. NO CODE to re-enter! The folks that run this place need to powwow with their other State Park counterparts to make major improvements. The vault toilet had not been maintained since 8/26/18. This was October 5th.... The views and individual shelters are great. Please someone fix this place up. It could be so much more.

People Don't Respect Campground

When I stopped in this campground I was checking out the lake in general to see what kind of quality it would have, not really familiar with this area and I had seen it in passing. I was traveling through during the week and it wasn't very crowded but it seemed as though the people who had been staying at the facility really didn't have a lot of regard for the land around the lake. It looked pretty junky and the few people I did see who were still staying looked more like they were squatting than camping. Trash was littered all around their site like they had been on a multi day bender party. Not the best site to see when you pull into a campsite and it didn't look like anyone was enforcing any of the rules around camp.

With that being said camping here is very inexpensive only $8 for a primitive site and to get a fully serviced site for a night for an RV is only $18. There are several site types available in between those two options, and for the money in this area it is the most inexpensive camping I found.

They do offer in addition to camping, trails, boating and lake activities and play facilities for children. When I was there the lake itself looked pretty clean, although in comparison to their website photos it was not near as blue or well kept.

I could see the bones of this campsite were set in place for it to be a solid 4 or even 5 but with the condition it was in when I visited a 3 is pushing it.

Nice Lake Shore Camping

$8 for non service free camping around the lake shore or $10 for lean to shelter. The porta potties were overflowing and gross but besides that it was a really nice place to stay.
