Las Vegas KOA Journey at Sam's Town

Las Vegas KOA at Sam's Town (at Boulder Hwy)

For a casino campground, you can't beat this one. It's greatest attraction is that you are within walking distance of Sam's Town Hotel & Casino, which is a great local place with movie theaters, large selection of dining options (sit down restaurants & fast food), gorgeous 10-story indoor atrium with the Mystic Falls Laser Light Show, and of course gaming. As for the KOA, there's a pool, showers, laundry facility, full hook-ups, propane refills, Wi-Fi, cable, clubhouse, general store, pet park with bench & shade, and a Wal-mart right across the street (with a fairly large RV supply section).

It should be noted that Sam's Town KOA has 2 locations:  5225 Boulder Highway (which is discussed in this review).  And... 4040 S. Nellis Blvd (which is very much inferior).  Beware of your location when booking reservations!!

Saddle West Hotel Casino RV Resort

This place isn’t missing a thing

Whether you want to stay a night, week or A month this place has it all. Full hook ups, no tent camping, some pull through sites others are back in. Handicap spots available near the restrooms. This park also has Restrooms, showers and laundry available. They have a hotel and a bar/ restaurant. Pool is available for everyone staying and dogs are allowed as long on leashes. They offer water Dump station available Sewage hook ups A few gazebos around the park so you can enjoy a sandwich at a table. You are Literally in the center of the city. They do have some rules and guidelines I would read and check out their website because they are very particular with the type of rvs and travel trailers they allowed so read the guidelines before you book. Lush trees surrounding nicely paved roads. Overall a nice place to come to.

Las Vegas Bay Campground — Lake Mead National Recreation Area

    So Close, yet So Far

Quiet beautifully maintained campground with a dump station, portable water, spigots near restrooms and flush toilets. Firings and picnic tables at each site. Very few sites for rigs over 26’. A few larger sites are offered, but be certain to check what size can be accommodated. Most sites are wide enough to park a 26’ trailer and tow vehicle side-by-side. Some vegetation but not much shade. This is the desert! One beautiful trail about a mile and a half long starts behind campsite number 74.Just minutes from the city of Henderson with all the shopping you could ask for and a short distance but LOTS of traffic to the Las Vegas Strip. Hoover Dam is about 30 mins and Valley of Fire 1.3 hours.

    Preferred RV Resort

    Everyone Is So Friendly!

Stayed here for a night to do laundry, shower, etc.  It's your basic RV park in terms of layout and close neighbors, but we were so impressed with how friendly everyone is!  It might be because it's sort of a co-op, and long term residents are part owners.  Overnighters are welcome though.

We paid $27.25 total with our Passport America discount, so roughly double that without the discount.

Showers were very clean, facilities looked like they'd been recently remodeled.

Laundry was nice and cheap and dryers worked well.  $1/wash and $1.50/dry.

Lots of activities and community events going on here.  Residents seem really happy to be here and were very welcoming even to short timers like us.  There's even a host who stopped by our RV to welcome us and gave us a ton of information and literature about things to do in town and the surrounding area.

The pool is beautiful, and there's a really lovely small walking garden with benches and ponds with huge koi, shaded areas to sit and hang out.

Recycling is available here (but they don't take glass).

There's a small clean gravel dog run as well.

Propane is also for sale here for $3.75/gal for non members, RV tanks filled on Tuesdays only.  There's also a cylinder exchange.

They have a dump and potable water fill available for non-guests for $10.

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area - Red Rock Campground

Hard to believe how close to Las Vegas this campground is!

This campground is open September through June and all sites are dry camping. There is a separate area for RVs, trailers, and vans but many camper vans (including ours) were in the tent section. The camper pads in this area are dirt/gravel and not all of them are level but we made it work. Each site has a fire ring, BBQ grill, and picnic table. Some of the sites (but not all) have a covered picnic table and the table is located on a cement pad.

There are more than sufficient vault toilets sprinkled throughout the campground and all the ones we used were clean. No showers. No dump station.

The hosts were great – they are from Minnesota, and it is their third year at this campground. They made daily rounds and were very friendly.

This campground is located just outside the park and therefore not subject to the park fees. You will need a timed entry for the 13-mile scenic drive from October through May (but if you enter before 8 am, you will not need it). We had only a fleeting one bar of Verizon cell service. Make sure you make reservations as the campground was full on a Monday night in mid-November.

What to Do

Lake activities at Lake Mead: Lake Mead National Recreation Area offers water-based recreation just 35 miles east of Jean. "We had an amazing lake view site with full hookups for our rv. It was only 7 minutes to the hover dam and 5 minutes into Boulder City," notes a visitor at Lake Mead RV Village.

Downtown exploration: Boulder City provides an interesting day trip with its historic district. "Boulder City has a beautiful downtown area that is minutes away," reports a camper staying at Canyon Trail RV Park. The town maintains its charm with local shops and restaurants.

Mountain biking trails: The terrain around Boulder City features technical trails for cycling enthusiasts. "When we discovered the MTB and Downhill riding nearby, we stayed a couple more nights on our way back. A great place to use as a base camp for some serious riding (double-diamond)," shares a mountain biker who enjoyed Canyon Trail RV Park.

What Campers Like

Pool amenities: Many RV parks in this region feature swimming pools that provide relief from desert heat. At Oasis Las Vegas RV Resort, a visitor notes, "The pool is always super clean as well as the bathrooms and the laundry room. You could not ask for a better place to stay!"

Security features: Gated access and patrol staff are common at RV parks in the area. "The park is gated with a person at the gate 24/7. The restrooms were very clean and the swimming pool was not crowded at all," reports a guest at Las Vegas RV Resort.

Accessibility to attractions: The strategic location of Jean-area RV parks provides easy access to major destinations. "Great option to stay on strip without having to pay the high hotel prices. Still get all the great amenities of circus circus, personal park pool, not over crowded like the main pool," explains a camper at Circus Circus RV Park.

What You Should Know

Age restrictions: Some RV parks impose age limitations. At Las Vegas RV Resort, a camper points out, "Not family friendly at all!! You must be 18 or older to come here so it's cool for people without kids or families."

Weather considerations: Summer heat demands preparation. At Circus Circus RV Park, one visitor warns, "Make sure you have good ac. It was 112F and the sun was beating down, even at night it was 90+. There is no shade."

Neighborhood conditions: The areas surrounding some RV parks may present safety concerns. A reviewer at Thousand Trails Las Vegas RV Resort cautions, "The only thing I really don't like about this Thousand Trails is the location. It doesn't feel safe at all. You can hear gunshots in the middle of the night."

Tips for Camping with Families

Consider lakeside options: Lakeside camping provides family-friendly water activities. "This campground is a great stop for boaters, anglers, and anyone who just wants to enjoy beautiful water with a desert backdrop," notes a visitor to Cottonwood Cove Resort RV Park.

Check for kid-friendly amenities: While many Jean-area RV parks cater to adults, some provide family features. "Talk about a little hidden gem in the desert. This place has lank front spots, with an entire walkway around the lake... Volleyball courts, Pool, Casino, Gas station and store," details a camper at Lakeside Casino & RV Resort.

Verify pet policies: For families traveling with animals, designated pet areas are important. At Las Vegas RV Resort, a camper appreciates the "Multiple dog areas, including a large, multi-run area."

Tips from RVers

Site selection matters: Position and layout vary significantly between RV spots. At Oasis Las Vegas RV Resort, a visitor advises, "Spaces are close together like many RV places. We rented a standard site for our van and car. Spaces are close together like many RV places."

Check hookup locations: The placement of utilities impacts setup convenience. According to one RVer at Lake Mead RV Village, "The utilities were spaced a bit far from the site and towards the back so I needed about 22' of sewer hose and 25' of electric and water hose."

Advance planning required: Seasonal demand affects availability. A visitor to Thousand Trails Las Vegas RV Resort recommends, "Plan on spending time out and about enjoying what Vegas has to offer," as amenities are limited and the park layout features extremely small sites.
