Best RV Parks & Resorts near Pray, MT

RV parks near Pray, Montana provide proximity to Yellowstone National Park with several full-hookup options. Yellowstone Edge RV Park offers riverfront sites with water, electric, and sewer connections, operating from May through October. The gravel sites accommodate large rigs with moderate spacing between neighbors. One camper noted, "Sites are fairly wide so there is some privacy, though not all sites have tree coverage." Bozeman Hot Springs Campground features year-round RV spaces with 50-amp service approximately 45 miles northwest of Pray. Sun Outdoors Yellowstone North in Gardiner provides sites close to the park entrance, though spaces are positioned close together.

Road access to most RV parks involves travel along Highway 89, with adequate clearance for large motorhomes and fifth wheels. Dump stations are available at all major parks, though amenities vary significantly by location. Cell service remains reliable near larger towns but can diminish in more remote parks. Many campgrounds fill quickly during peak summer months, particularly July and August, necessitating reservations weeks or months in advance. According to one visitor, "Yellowstone Edge RV Park is a great location with an easy drive south to Yellowstone or dining in Livingston a few miles north." Most parks accommodate pets with designated dog areas, though specific restrictions may apply. Winter closures affect most facilities in the region, with only a limited number remaining operational year-round.

    Colter Campground

Low branches big potholes- big rig be cautious

I really wanted to camp here but after scouting we would not have fit our fifth wheel. The trees were about 7.5-8’ wide and height clearance was probably close to 12’. If you go to the end and turn around there’s some sites you could possibly tuck a big rig into but the turn around is very tight and you may get hung up on rocks. Though the sites were nice we did not find it big rig accessible in its current state.

Osen's RV Park by Starry Night Lodging

    Good spot near yellowstone

This is an independent campground about an hour from the north entrance of Yellowstone. The spots are reasonably level and about half and half pull-through vs back in. They use a larger size gravel on the roads so there is very little dust. The staff is very attentive and there seems to be good security at the campground. The hookups are well placed and everything worked well. Bathrooms and showers are reasonably clean and seem to be cleaned frequently. Nice fenced in dog area. All the spots have nice new plastic picnic tables. No fire rings. Grounds are very well cared for, grass is in great shape. There are lots of restaurants and shops nearby.

A few things to be aware of:

    • The road in is a bit bumpy and trees on both sides, so be careful coming in if you have a big rig
    • No wood camp fires
    • There is no tent camping allowed here

Indian Creek Campground — Yellowstone National Park

    Far from the madding crowd

Camped here many times over the years, it was our favorite place in the park. It's a bit more like a National Forest CG because it's somewhat off the beaten path and quiet. It is certainly more crowded these days than it used to be, back then it rarely filled.

The site are good, some more private than others. It is NOT a place for Big Rigs, I think the length limit was 35' last time I was there (vehicle + trailer or whatever you're pulling) and they strictly enforced that. The volunteers at the entrance cabin actually brought out a tape measure and measured my 4Runner and 17' Casita at 31' so we got in. Many rigs behind us in line were too big and were turned away.

The creeks (Indian & Obsidian) contain small Brook Trout. For supplies, Mammoth is the closest place.

Have been the in June, July August & September.

The campground is totally on the reservation system unlike a few years ago. No 1st come, 1st serve anymore.

Spring Creek Campground & Trout Ranch

    Nice park

Nice park. Sites are okay. Ours was one of the better ones. Spacious and level gravel pad with large grassy area on patio side. Our site was 50 amp full hookups. Many weren’t. Couple of small fishing ponds. Campground is situated on Boulder River. Office staff was friendly. Laundry facility was clean but dated. (Harvest gold dryers from the 70’s dated). Great proximity to downtown big timber, MT. One grocery store (IGA). 30 min from Livingston.

    Hood Creek Campground

    Amazing Views

Stayed here one night after passing through Bozeman to get my Go Fast Camper. It did not disappoint. We stayed at spot 12 and it had amazing views of the lake/reservoir and mountain. Hiking trails around there are great as well. Camp hosts were super friendly and helpful. Highly recommend. Pet friendly! No AT&T or Sprint cell signal.

    Langohr Campground

Cute Little Campground with Just the Right Amenities

About 20 minutes south of Bozeman, MT on scenic Hyalite Canyon Road sits Langohr Campground. There are 19 spacious single sites and the 20th site is a group picnic site for day use. Langohr Campground runs along Hyalite Creek and is tucked inside Custer Gallatin National Forest in a small open meadow with Douglas fir, Lodgepole pine, and Englemann Spruce.

I was fortunate to find a campsite as a walk-in even after arriving mid-afternoon at the beginning of June 2019 because it was too late to reserve online. Each site does have a picnic table and fire ring, and electrical sites are available. Some are drive-in or back into sites, and a few are literally next to Hyalite Creek which is an added bonus. A heavy snowfall occurred a week before and remnants of it were scattered along the campground. Good thing I brought a snow scraper to clear the picnic table of snow. The fee is $20.00 per campsite for two vehicles and $8.00 for any additional vehicles. The group picnic site is $45.00 for day use. I paid cash for the site, but I believe you may also pay by credit card.

Many of the campers were settling in and had parked RVs and pop-ups. Pets are allowed but must be on a leash as wildlife such as bears, deers, moose, and elk frequent the area. Bear lockers should be used for food storage or properly stored in vehicles. There are huge bear safe trash and recycling containers near the entrance for campers to use. The bathroom is clean, free of odor and bugs, and it is a vault toilet. There are no showers, dump station, or camp store, but you are close to Bozeman.  The camp host was settled on site 11 and sells firewood for $6.00. You can take a walk along the Hyalite Creek or drive 3.5 miles south down to Hyalite Reservoir for other activities such as fishing, kayaking, canoeing, climbing, hiking, and boating. The night sky was pretty spectacular especially with the trees around on a clear day.

Mammoth Campground — Yellowstone National Park

    Year-Round Campground in Yellowstone

Mammoth Hot Springs campground is the only (year-round) campground open in Yellowstone from late fall to spring. This campground has about 85 sites, and half of those are open in the winter. Summer time makes this campground feel quite crowded, and allows for RVs up to 75 feet, but in winter there is a tight turn that makes it only open to RVs under 30 feet. The campground is set in tiers on a hillside, so if you get a site near the top, you have an excellent view of the surrounding valley and Electric Peak.

This campground has drinking water available but no dump station. We usually haul to Billings and dump at Cabela's there, or stop at Canyon campground if heading out the East Entrance. In the off-season this campground is a very nice stay - quiet even though it is close to the road, and not usually full until spring. The town of Gardiner, MT, is only a few miles north, which offers restaurants and gas (although there is also both available in Mammoth Hot Springs). Just up the hill above the campground is the town of M. H. Springs, which is a nice place to spend time. If you are traveling with kids, be sure to stop in the awesome Visitor Center and museum. Lots of hands-on stuff to explore. Just up from the Visitor Center are the Mammoth Hot Springs Terraces, a geological feature sure to knock your socks off in any season.

For the more adventurous souls like us, you can access the Boiling River Trail to the north of the campground and jump in the river, even in the middle of winter. The Boiling River flows into the Gardner River, creating the perfect all-season hot tub. In addition to thermal features, there are tons of wildlife viewing opportunities right from the campground, especially elk, bison, and bighorn sheep.

Although not our favorite campground in the park, MHS Campground, being open all year, is an ample location to stay on your Yellowstone vacation.

    Canyon Campground

Great staging cg for Yellowstone, but nothing else

Not much shade, no river access, no hiking trails and just basic vault toilets with no trash or host. But, a good cheep cg close to North yellowstone! One pull through site. Mostly empty till about 5 pm then filled up (on a tue)

Guide to Pray

RV campgrounds near Pray, Montana lie within the Paradise Valley, at approximately 5,000 feet elevation, along the Yellowstone River. The region experiences warm summer days with temperatures typically ranging 75-85°F and cool nights that often dip into the 40s. Most camping facilities in this area open from May through October, with limited winter options due to seasonal closures and snowfall.

What to do

Fishing access points: Several campgrounds offer direct river access for anglers targeting trout. At Yellowstone RV Park in Gardiner, campers enjoy premium riverfront locations. "The tent spots look nice as well and you'll be able to hear the river all night," notes Andrew B. The park provides ideal access for fishing the Yellowstone River.

Hot springs visits: Staying at Bozeman Hot Spring Campground & RV Park includes passes to their facilities. "Site rental includes passes to Hot Springs indoor and outdoor pools. Great stop and worth the price," explains Mike B. The hot springs complex features multiple pools at different temperatures.

Mountain hiking: Within driving distance of most Pray campgrounds, Fairy Lake Campground offers trail access to surrounding peaks. "Great Scenery, nice sites... the lake has a small trail to walk around," reports Anthony B. The area requires "something with good clearance and ideally 4WD" to navigate the access road.

What campers like

Riverside sites: Many campers specifically request waterfront locations for the views and sounds. At Yellowstone Edge RV Park, Barb N. appreciates the "Nice level spots with lots of space and awesome river views. Full hookups, nice clean bathrooms, game room and little store that has everything."

Wildlife viewing: The Gardiner area campgrounds often feature wildlife sightings. At Sun Outdoors Yellowstone North, Donna H. notes, "The view of the mountains is breathtaking, elk roam the campground and that's super cool!" Other campers mention seeing pronghorns across the river at Yellowstone RV Park.

Communal gathering spaces: Some RV parks create social opportunities for guests. One camper at Yellowstone Edge RV Park mentions they "also have a communal fire ring," while Rachel H. adds, "Communal campfire every night. It's right on the river with benches to sit and enjoy the water."

What you should know

Road conditions: Access to some camping areas requires careful navigation. For Fairy Lake Campground, reviews warn about challenging terrain: "The 6-mile unmaintained road to get to the campground is definitely rough. The warnings are justified—it's bumpy, rocky, and slow going," cautions Sayler O.

Wildlife safety: Bear-aware practices are essential in this region. At Fairy Lake Campground, Jonathan A. reports, "For sure there is 1 grizzly that's pretty big. He checked out our truck tent... 1 bear box for the whole camp ground so be prepared to store food in car or tree."

Cell service: Connectivity varies significantly based on location. While most established RV parks near highways maintain service, more remote camping areas have limited reception. Tethering may be necessary for critical communications during extended stays.
