Best Campgrounds near Butler, MO

Campgrounds around Butler, Missouri provide varied accommodation options within a rural Midwest setting. The Montrose Missouri Conservation Area offers free dispersed camping with primitive facilities and lake access for both tent and RV camping. Show-Me Rest RV Park provides a more developed experience with full hookups, suitable for larger rigs and extended stays. These facilities represent the spectrum of camping experiences available in western Missouri, ranging from basic public conservation areas to private RV parks with amenities.

Road conditions and accessibility vary seasonally throughout the Butler area, with most sites accessible via paved or maintained gravel roads. "A large grassy area with plenty of room to set up a tent or camper. Right off the road, so no dirt roads to traverse," noted one visitor about Montrose Conservation Area. Most campgrounds remain open year-round, though some conservation areas have seasonal restrictions during hunting seasons, particularly after October 15th. Sites typically don't require advance reservations except for the private RV parks, which often accept same-day arrivals. Weather conditions can impact camping experiences, with humid summers and occasionally severe storms possible during spring and summer months.

The conservation areas feature lakefront camping that attracts anglers and wildlife enthusiasts. A camper described the Montrose area as having "beautiful scenery and with a couple boats makes for a great weekend." Wildlife sightings are common, with visitors reporting encounters with raccoons, beavers, cranes, deer, and other animals. The area's pit toilets are frequently mentioned in reviews as basic but functional, with cleanliness varying significantly. Cell service is generally available but can be spotty in more remote conservation areas. The private RV parks like Show-Me Rest offer more reliable amenities, with one visitor noting they have "very friendly and accommodating owners" and "low rates." Most sites offer some shade, particularly in the conservation areas where pecan and walnut trees provide natural canopy during summer months.

    Osceola RV Park & Campground

    Quick stop for night

We were passing through and decided to check this place out since it was getting late and they offered full hookups. It was only $22.00 for the night and the host was very nice and helpful . The park was clean and we felt safe. It was not noisy. There are large trees that make nice shade. I didn’t use the restrooms so I can’t say anything on that.

    Lake Paradise Resort

    Perfect for families

The place looks great and has had some great up keeps. The ice cream shop is so cute and the restaurant is going. We went to a movie outside there and fireworks for Memorial Day weekend. The pool was open for the first Saturday but it was rainy and of course cold. It was still so much fun. Can’t wait to be back for 4 of July!!

Bobcat Run — Harry S Truman State Park

    A water lover’s paradise

Harry Truman State Park is a stunning spot, more so if you are a water lover. The campsites are large, with lots of trees to add privacy. Two boat launch areas make it very convenient for people who will spend time on the water. They do have three hiking trails (one was closed for storm repairs).

My site was just off of the main road, but I didn’t hear much traffic throughout the night. It seems to be a very quiet area

Jackson County Fleming Park Jacomo Campground

    Large sites

Very nice parks. It is a major recreation center for the county. Well maintained grounds. Minor annoyances like check in and check out times are the same so we had to wait for the people in our site to leave. We enjoyed taking time to go to Osage Fort and Missouri town. Two historical landmarks worth the visit. Our StarLink worked well. We did not do as much because we were working and because of the rain. The bathrooms were merely adequate, poorly designed without hooks where you need them and a long walk. There was a handicap toilet near us but it was clearly designed by a committee as I can’t see how anyone with a physical handicap could have used it. The light switch and the door lock were high up. The water in the sinks was cold.

    Lake Jacomo - Fleming Park

    Not terrible, not great.

Not a great spot for tent camping. Ton of road noise and most grassy areas are sloped. Bathrooms are nice and people are great. $31 for a tent spot.

    Poague Campsite #1

    Not bad but very primitive

Little spots. I'm in a teardrop and it's tight. Tents would be fine. Vehicles under twenty feet should be good. Quiet and peaceful and close to the highway for amenities.
