Klondike Park in Augusta permits pets in both tent sites and cabins with a clean, well-maintained campground that includes picnic tables, fire rings, and hammock stands at select sites. The park features multiple camping areas including walk-in sites and car camping options, with site #25 offering a spacious, tree-surrounded area perfect for dogs. Basic sites include covered picnic tables for an additional $3 fee. The park's trails provide excellent opportunities for hiking with pets, though campers report finding numerous ticks during spring visits.

Dogs are welcome along the nearby Katy Trail, which connects directly to Klondike Park, making it convenient for visitors biking or hiking with pets. Pin Oak RV Park in Villa Ridge also accommodates pets with tent camping, RV sites, and cabins available year-round, though sites are positioned close together with limited privacy. The park provides water hookups, electric service, and sewer connections for RVs. Both campgrounds offer showers and toilets, with Klondike featuring a seasonal bathhouse serving all 43 campsites. Campers should securely store food overnight as raccoons are abundant in the area.

Twin Eagle Lake Estates & Hideout

      Beautiful place-

This was our first trip together in our new camper. It was a little rough assessing the place thru the website but the reviews swayed us. There are walking paths all around and a beautiful lake /clubhouse area. Super people running the place and of course other campers were so helpful. We took our 2 dogs and would have loved a little more grass for their paws as the entire camping area is rough gravel. We’re hoping for a dog park in the future....? The lake has many easy entrances for swimmers near the club house - broad steps or large boulder for the more adventurous. Can be a bit slippery tho so bring your water shoes. Kids seemed to have little problem. Saturday night there was live music. Just a single guy with a guitar but great choice of music and great singing voice. Had a great 2 days. We plan to come back.

St. Louis West / Historic Route 66 KOA

Good location for exploring St. Louis

This campground is fairly close to downtown and very close to lots of shopping. A great place to stay to stock up on supplies before heading west. We stayed 2 nights to have a day to visit the Gateway Arch. The pool and playground seemed nice even though we didn’t use them. Nice dog park for smaller dogs. Several cabins are available along with RV sites. The tent sites are next to a river under large trees. Plenty of spaces for big rigs. Our site was no very level but nothing our auto-leveling couldn’t handle.

      KOA in Eureka, MO

Nice, clean campground, level pull-through sites - ours had a paver-patio and grill, a lot of shade throughout, dog park, and a creek to explore. This was our 2nd time here. Close to Saint Louis, Six Flags, and hiking.

      St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park

      Convenient to St. Charles

Easy off I-370, campground is new and large. It is on a lake with bike trails, kayak rental, and kids splash pad. Staff were helpful. I received about 5 pieces of paper when checking in. You need a code to get into the dog park. Shopping nearby. Used this as a base to visit historic St Charles.

      Lazy Day Campground

      Best campground and hosts

Cleanest campground with all the amenities. The hosts are the owners and they are so nice and helpful. You follow them to your site and they deliver firewood if you paid for it. Sites are clean. There is a gated dog park. Everything above is at the campground. Our dog really liked the owner too.

      Onondaga Cave State Park Campground

Great campground. Great cave. Fun river. Avoid campsite 65

We stayed one night in campsite 65. Onondaga Cave is amazing with the new lighting; it just reopened July 4, 2024. The river is still fantastic fun, especially for our grandkids ages 9 and 12.

Avoid campsite 65 when it rains. We had over an inch of standing water on the concrete pad when we arrived. 18 hours after it stopped raining, we still had some water on the concrete pad.

Other than the water, Onondaga Cave SP has been one of my favorite places to camp in Missouri for more than 20 years.

    Guide to Dutzow

Camping near Dutzow, Missouri offers diverse terrain with elevations ranging from 500 to 800 feet above sea level, creating interesting hiking challenges within a relatively small area. The region experiences four distinct seasons with summer temperatures averaging 85-90°F during peak camping months of June through August. Most campgrounds in the area close their seasonal bathhouses around mid-October due to falling nighttime temperatures.

    What to do

Hiking trails with lake views: At St. Charles County Klondike Park, campers can enjoy multiple terrain types within one park. "This campground places you in the heart of Missouri Wine Country and there's a perfect base for visiting the wineries and restaurants along highway 94," notes Marty C. The park's trails provide excellent vantage points of the Missouri River and connect directly with longer routes.

Kayaking accessible waters: Beyond the Trail RV Park offers direct water access with convenient boat rentals. "The Katy trail borders the park for easy access to town. Beautiful views across a large farm field (soy beans when we were here) to the hills beyond with incredible sunsets," explains Sam C. Many campers appreciate the convenience of not hauling their own equipment.

Fishing opportunities: Robertsville State Park provides accessible fishing with dedicated areas for anglers. "We stayed 3 nights at the Robertsville State Park in June of 2016 and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. There's also a lake within a few minutes walking, although the current was too strong to swim we were told it's home to many large catfish," shares Ana B. Most fishing spots are within a short walking distance from campsites.

    What campers like

Seasonal bathroom facilities: Campers appreciate the modern facilities at St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park where maintenance is consistently good. "The grounds are clean and pleasant, if a bit sparse with little shade. This will change over the subsequent years, however, as there are many relatively newly planted trees," notes Suzie S. The bathhouses include free showers for registered campers.

Wildlife viewing: The natural setting at many campgrounds provides excellent wildlife opportunities. "You can see all kinds of wildlife in and around the lake- deer, bald eagles, pelicans, ducks, snakes," according to Annie C. from her visit to St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park. Morning and evening hours offer the best chances for wildlife sightings.

Winter accessibility: Unlike many regional campgrounds that close seasonally, several parks remain open year-round. "Great concrete slab sights with River and hiking trails close by!" mentions Hannah S. about Meramec State Park Campground. Winter camping offers the advantage of significantly reduced crowds and more spacious sites.

    What you should know

Terrain challenges: Some campgrounds have noticeable elevation changes that affect site selection. "The spots are level, and there is plenty of shade. (One advantage of being an older park.) But everything is just a little run down. The sites are gravel and close together so not much privacy," reports Joel R. about Pin Oak RV Park.

Weather considerations: Flooding can affect campground availability, particularly in spring. "One downside to this location is that it is prone to flooding. It was out of commission for most of the summer of 2019 as the entire area was flooded," warns a reviewer about St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park. Always check campground status before traveling during rainy seasons.

Limited privacy: Site spacing varies considerably between parks. "The campground is beautiful and very woodsy. We saw bunnies hopping around and when we first arrived to our site a deer was grazing nearby, such a bonus!" reports Maria E. about Cuivre River State Park. Request sites with natural barriers if privacy is important.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Several campgrounds include dedicated play areas for children. "Kids had a blast riding bikes. Even finding a few little frogs jumping around and fireflies at night," shares Joseph F. about their stay at St. Peters' 370 Lakeside Park. Most playgrounds are centrally located within campgrounds.

Rental equipment: Cuivre River State Park Campground offers family-friendly amenities with affordable options. "This campground has a lake you can rent kayaks for. They have a small store at the check in booth. It also has an accessible fishing dock that is covered," explains Kayla S. Equipment rentals typically range from $5-20 per hour depending on the item.

Pet friendly options: Many campgrounds welcome dogs with minimal restrictions. "We did a 2 night tent camp with my family and it was awesome. We had a great time on the trails and near the Mighty Missouri River," mentions Greg E. about his experience at St. Charles County Klondike Park. Most parks require leashes no longer than 6 feet.

    Tips from RVers

Hookup variations: Robertsville State Park Campground offers different site configurations for various RV needs. "This is a nice quiet campground but the lots are pretty uneven so make sure you bring plenty of cribbing. The spaces are electric only, so if you are wanting full hookups you better look elsewhere," advises Montt B. Most sites accommodate RVs up to 32 feet.

Seasonal considerations: Weather affects site conditions significantly throughout the year. "The only issues is the loud hummmmm of the power plant can be heard in the night," notes Dave B. about Klondike Park. Winter visitors often report increased noise travel due to lack of leaf cover.

Leveling challenges: Many campgrounds in the area have uneven sites requiring preparation. "We camped as part of the Big MO Ride and Row event. It was my first visit to the park. Campsites are walk in, but a short walk. Some are more private and shaded than others," reports Shawn M. Bring extra leveling blocks, particularly for larger rigs.
