    Big Hill Pond State Park is located in the southwestern part of McNairy County and encompasses 4,138 acres of timberland and hardwood bottomland. Cypress Creek and Tuscumbia River border the property. The flood plain, adjacent to the river and creek contains small oxbows and swampy areas which are desirable habitats for waterfowl, wildlife, and fish.

    Big Hill Pond highlights include the 70-foot observation tower that offers panoramic views of Travis McNatt Lake and the boardwalk that winds through Dismal Swamp. Guests visiting Big Hill Pond State Park enjoy camping, hiking, birding, mountain biking, fishing, and paddling on Big Hill Pond Lake in the summer. The park is home to thirty miles of overnight and day-use trails with four backpack trail shelters.

    Wall Doxey State Park offers 64 developed camp sites, 18 wooded primitive camp sites, 9 cabins, and 1 cottage. Group Camp facility that can accommodate up to 104 campers. A laundry facility is available for campers.

    Wall Doxey's 64 sites available for developed camping feature picnic tables, grills, and water and electrical hook-ups. Bathhouses with hot showers and a central sewage dumping station are located in the developed camping area. All campsites are reservable up to 24-months in advance and are strongly recommended. Monthly camping may be available. Please check with the park office for availability.

    Eighteen wooded sites are available for tent camping. Water, restrooms, and showers are located within walking distance of the primitive camping area.

    Overview

    Chewalla Lake Recreation Area is located in the Holly Springs Ranger District in northern Mississippi. Visitors enjoy swimming and relaxing on the sandy beach on the lake shore, as well as canoeing, kayaking and fishing.

    Recreation

    Chewalla Lake covers 260 acres and is a no-wake lake, making it a perfect location for swimming, canoeing and kayaking. Anglers enjoy fishing for largemouth bass, bream, crappie and catfish. A boat ramp is located on-site.

    Facilities

    The campground offers sites for RV and tent camping. Each site is equipped with a picnic table and campfire ring. RV sites have electric and water hookups. During the season the campground is open 24 hours and does not close on the major holidays, i.e. Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day, allowing families and friends to celebrate together. Don't fret if you happen to arrive later in the day or evening for your reservation we will leave a note up on the site showing that its reserved.

    Natural Features

    The lake is surrounded by a dense forest of pine and hardwoods, such as sweet gum and oak. Many dogwoods are scattered throughout the campground, creating a beautiful, blooming display in the springtime. The campground lies on land once used heavily for farming. Erosion has caused deep gullies to form throughout the area, but split-rail fences line the gullies, adding character to the facility.

    Holly Springs is 8.5 miles northwest of the lake. This charming town is known as the Antebellum Capitol of the mid-south. More than 200 buildings in town are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A variety of dining and shopping options are available, as well as grocery stores and gas stations.

    Overview

    ATTENTION: Whitten Campground will be closed September 8, 2024 - February 1, 2025 for renovations. We are sorry for the incovenience, but hope you enjoy the park even more once work is completed. Whitten Park Campground attracts thousands of outdoor enthusiasts for picnicking, fishing and swimming on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway. Easy access to three boat docks, nature trails and a sandy swimming beach with a gazebo overlooking the waterway, make Whitten Park a welcoming destination for campers. Whitten Park is also referred to as Fulton Campground because of its location in Fulton, Mississippi.

    Anglers can try their luck on the fishing dock or go off-shore in search of bass and crappie. Hikers will enjoy many nature trails, which weave through wooded wildlife habitats.

    The campground offers 60 sites with electric and water hookups. The three camp loops provide easy access to playgrounds and showers.

    The Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway extends 234 miles from the Tennessee River to the junction of the Tombigbee River in Alabama. Features include ten lock and dams, Gainesville Lake, Aliceville Lake, Columbus Lake and Aberdeen Lake.
