Best RV Parks & Resorts near Hinckley, MN

Grand Casino RV Resort in Hinckley provides year-round RV camping with 271 full hookup sites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire pit. The resort features 50-amp electrical service, water, and sewer connections at each site, though one RV owner noted, "The sewer connections are cut off about 12 inches above the ground, which means you are going to be trying to make sewage flow uphill." Nearby, Banning RV Park and Campground in Finlayson offers big-rig friendly sites with full hookups from May through October, situated just half a mile from Banning State Park entrance. Fiddlestix RV and Golf Resort maintains 143 RV sites with 30/50-amp service and full hookups, catering exclusively to motorhomes and travel trailers. Sites throughout these parks are primarily back-in, with Grand Casino's sites described as "blind back-ins from the driver seat" that can be challenging for larger rigs.

Cell service varies significantly across RV parks in the region, with spotty coverage in some locations requiring travelers to download entertainment before arrival. Most RV campgrounds maintain on-site dump stations, though positioning can be problematic - one reviewer at a nearby park mentioned "the absolutely ridiculous placement of the dump station that requires maneuvering around one of the campground loops and blocking part of a main road." Reservation requirements increase during summer months and special events, with Grand Casino RV Resort filling quickly during concert weekends at their amphitheater. Pet-friendly policies are standard across most parks, with Banning RV Park featuring a dedicated dog park complete with agility equipment. Winter RV camping options are limited primarily to Grand Casino, as most other parks in the area close between October and May.

    Grand Casino RV Resort

Park’s designers hav never been in an RV

The designers of this park have clearly never spent a night in an RV. This place pushes all of my buttons for things not to do when building an RV park.

Virtually every site in the park is a blind back in from the driver seat. You’re trying to back your trailer into a site on the right side without being able to see anything over there. Additionally, the site number pedestals for each site are right against the corner of the driveway where you have to back around them without being able to see them. Number pedestals for all sites are also right against the road, limiting the amount that you can swing your tow vehicle to the opposite side of the road to back into the site.  I will guarantee that not one person on the design team has ever backed, a travel trailer or fifth wheel into an RV site. The owners should have checked the credentials of the designers they hired. If they did, they were lied to. If they didn’t, then they just didn’t care about their customers.

Finally, one of my all-time favorites, all of the sewer connections are cut off about 12 inches above the ground. This means that even in a relatively tall fifth wheel, you are going to be trying to make shit filled water flow uphill. These things need to be cut off just an inch or two above the ground level  so that your sewage can flow downhill.

If you were here to spend an evening gambling at the casino, the place is roomy and well maintained. If you just want to spend the night, and not spend half of it trying to get into your site and set up, there’s got to be someplace close that would be better to go. We won’t be back.

    Tall Tall Trees

Lots of tall evergreen trees (not sure of the specific species) here that you are nestled in. Have to know a seasonal site holder to camp here. Sites can be a little tricky backing into because of the trees, but ultimately they have enough space even for large rigs(there were three of us there: 2 5th wheels and one longer travel trailer). A picnic table and fire ring was provided at each site. Nice easy road to navigate getting into the campground. Close to Hinckley if you're looking for things to do!

    Father Hennepin State Park Campground

    Great getaway from the city

Right on Lake Mille Lacs, one of Minnesota’s largest. Walking distance from the bakery and bar! Newer, updated facilities. Boat access. Lake side sites (if you book early enough). You can hit Mille Lacs State Park if you want to knock them both out on one trip! This park seems to attract a lot of long term campers, as I’m sure it’s pretty reasonable to stay at the lake all summer. We went mid-July I think and the trees were literally raining caterpillars… it was tough to want to hang out in our tree canopy-covered site. Sooo.. we ventured outside of the park more at this one.

There was a festival going on in a town west of here that had a couple rides and a really fun patio bar. If you do decide to venture out at night, ask the bartender for the limo driver’s number; he’s the city’s “uber”!

    Banning State Park Campground

    Winter camping

This is a great place for winter camping! The campsites are large enough (despite the snow) to set up suitable winter tents, and each site has a picnic table and fire pit. In the park, there's a lot of ice climbing and cross country skiing. If you take a short walk from the main parking area towards the bathroom, and follow the trail alongside the bluff, you'll find awesome spots to climb and likely a lot of dedicated adventurers. Nearby the campsite you have a great water source, and a lot of peace and quiet at night despite being close to a residential area and town.

    Moose Lake City Park

    Will come again!

We stayed in site 27 and it was perfect for our truck, 40ft fifth wheel camper, and utv trailer. Its nice that the campground allows utv/atv access. If you are double pulling with a atv/utv trailer it is very challenging to use the dump station!!

Only downfall was all the goose poop and bugs, but thats to be expected on the lake. The weekend host and his wife were very nice people!

    Grand Casino RV Resort

    Rocking RockTember Music Festival

We booked our stay at the RV Resort so we wouldn't have to drive two and a half hours back and forth during the two day Grand RockTember Music Festival. *Please note when there's an event, book early!! This RV Resort has 271 RV/Camping full hook up sites that include a picnic table and fire pit. The sites are very close together with little to no privacy, but it did a fine job as we were there for the concert. Guest Services were super friendly when we checked in, and they give you a pass card to enter & exit the Resort. There is 24 hour security, and shuttle bus service to the casino, although we enjoyed the 1/2 mile walk to the amphitheater. All the sites are back in only, and are a tight squeeze for bigger rigs. They enforced the quite hours well, and we got a good nights sleep. There's a heated outdoor pool, and small convince store in the guest services building. They have a pet walking area, and kennels if you want to spend time at the casino. The bathhouse offered private toilet stalls and showers, and we squeaky clean!!! If you like to golf, don't miss the 18 hole Grand National Golf Course next door. We enjoyed our stay, and will be back again.

    Wild River State Park Campground

    Lots to Explore/Learn

I’ll say, one of the best parts of this park is all the interpretative kiosks. Love learning about the forestry and history of state parks!  Also many options for trails which is great. A lot of wildlife here, I heard a ton of coyotes and geese, a woodpecker, and a beaver under the bridge in the evening chomping away at peeling logs... totally scared me at first but he was just doing his job and I tried not to bother him!

I stayed at the backpacking site: SPRING. It’s just a short hike (bout 400 meters)  from the river access where there is a vaulted toilet snd water year-round. The site had a bench overlooking the river and a rugged stair for water access. Also had a little personal rustic toilet just a trail behind the site. Nice and wooded campsite, soft dirt, and fairly spacious! In wet months, I bet it's pretty muddy. The only drawback is that the trail it’s situated on is the hiking club trail and heavily trafficked. I stayed in winter, where you could see through the trees and all that tho. Maybe in summer, it’s more secluded? But still, something to keep in mind.

Took a peek at the campground- some of the most spaced out and wooded sites I’ve seen yet. I like that they made it in separated loops, to avoid through traffic distracting your stay. Love the visitors center, great overlook, and interesting information. By the trail center, which is also very cozy and rents, skis and snowshoes and has a great inside fireplace, there is an interpretative walk about white pines- great for kids to imagine those huge trees! They do a great job aiding the imagination as you walk along the short trail.

Camper cabins here are up on a bluff- didn’t stay there but totes want to! Nicely situated.

Everything that I checked out here was very well managed and they clearly put a lot of time and care into making this park functional, interesting, and accessible. I loved my little backpack site but can’t wait to come back to camp in the summer or rent a cabin! The river is gorgeous, even as it was frozen in winter!

Mille Lacs Kathio Petaga Campground — Mille Lacs Kathio State Park

Winter camping- very quiet with the electric hookups

This is one campground in Minnesota that offers a handful of electric hookups for winter camping. The beauty of this campground, is that while the campsites available are in a row, there's plenty of space between sites and some of them are even pulled through. Making it easy for RVs to pull in and hook up.

The vault toilet is not easy to find from where the electric openings are in the winter. While these spaces are right next door to a shower house with toilets, this is closed in the winter. The vault toilet is several rows over and down, making it hard to find if you don't already know where it is. But it was clean, and it was available.

The campfire rings seemed clean, and each had a picnic table as well. We loved the pull-through site because then we were a little more protected from the road, although it's not busy this time of year at all. So it was very quiet except for our neighbors, and they didn't make much noise at all.

There are trails nearby that are easily accessible on foot from the campground, and you can make loops that come back to the campground as well.

There are two campgrounds at this park, but this is the one that has availability in the winter time. Ironically, they also have a couple of walk-in spots that are also open this time of year. If you're willing to brave the temps without an electric hookup. Not hard to find, not hard to access, but no electric hookups at these sites.

Guide to Hinckley

RV camping near Hinckley, Minnesota offers travelers a mix of wooded sites, lakeside options, and family-friendly amenities. The region sits at an elevation of approximately 1,000 feet above sea level within the transition zone between hardwood forests and pine country. Summer temperatures typically range from 70-85°F during camping season, with evening temperatures dropping to the 50s even in July.

What to do

River activities: Country Camping RV Park on the Rum River provides tubing opportunities with shuttle service. "Tubing! They have a bus that takes you into town float back to the campground, love it," notes Tom D., highlighting the convenience of this popular summer activity.

Golf access: Pokegama Lake RV Park And Golf combines camping with golfing opportunities. "They have golf, a pool, lake nearby, and seasonal camping," explains Dan B., making it ideal for campers who want recreational variety without leaving the grounds.

Dog agility course: The dog park at Banning RV Park and Campground goes beyond a simple pet area. "In addition to playgrounds for children in different places around the campground, there was a huge dog walking and play area that was grassy and beautifully clean—and, of special interest, included a complete 'dog playground' with all the standards elements of a dog agility course!" reports Janet R.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Grand Casino RV Resort maintains well-kept common areas according to guests. "The bathhouse offered private toilet stalls and showers, and we squeaky clean!!!" writes TyAnn J., emphasizing the resort's attention to cleanliness.

Concert access: Special events at Grand Casino draw RV campers. "We booked our stay at the RV Resort so we wouldn't have to drive two and a half hours back and forth during the two day Grand RockTember Music Festival," explains TyAnn J., noting the convenience for event attendees.

Fishing opportunities: Ice fishing attracts winter visitors to Hidden Bay RV Resort. "I'm talking winter camping on the lake on the Ice in an 'Ice Castle' catching walleye. Had a great time fishing in the camper (Ice Castle) well plowed roads, nice showers," shares Michael V., who caught numerous slot fish during winter months.

What you should know

Site configuration challenges: Some campgrounds present setup difficulties. "Back-in site was 90 degrees to the road - if the bathhouse parking lot wasn't across from it, wouldn't have been able to swing in on a 24' travel trailer," reports Cathleen V. from Grand Casino RV Resort, rating her experience 3 stars.

Water hookup arrangements: Shared water connections can cause complications. At Banning RV Park and Campground, Sam C. notes: "We were quick to learn that water hookups were shared with other sites and required 'y' connections at the spigots. Our water source ended up being 75' plus from our RV."

Noise considerations: Country Camping Tent & RV Park on the Rum River has established quiet hours at 11 pm. "Twice I ran into the same group of people that thought it was ok to open up their vehicle doors and blast music well into the night. Owner warned them the first time but quiet time isn't until 11 pm," shares Barbara B.

Tips for camping with families

Pool and splash pad options: Country Camping Tent & RV Park on the Rum River offers water recreation for children. "It has a heated pool, splash pad area, BIG playground area, indoor game room, HUGE sites!" writes Spencer C., highlighting amenities beyond swimming.

Campground activities: Woodsong RV Resort receives praise for its recreational offerings. "Well maintained campground with plenty to do and great owners!" according to Vanessa I., though not all guests share this positive view of management style.

Site selection strategy: When camping with children at Banning RV Park and Campground, consider sites away from highways. "It is not far from nearby Highway 35, so there is a fair amount of road noise despite a barrier of pines planted as a buffer," warns Janet R.

Tips from RVers

Leveling challenges: Prepare for uneven terrain at some parks. "Our sites were grass that was a little long and rutted from what seemed from previous tenants. This made getting leveling a little difficult and out fold out stairs touched the ground before fully being deployed," explains Sam C. about his experience at Banning RV Park.

Sewer connection positions: Fiddlestix RV and Golf Resort requires planning for hookups. "Our utilities were at the back of the site, and we needed about 35' of electric and water hose. The sewer was more central, and I needed about 18' of sewer hose for our rig," notes MickandKarla W.

Site availability during events: Reserve well ahead for popular weekends. "Please note when there's an event, book early!! This RV Resort has 271 RV/Camping full hook up sites," advises TyAnn J. about Grand Casino RV Resort, emphasizing the importance of advance planning.
