RV parks around Tipton provide diverse camping options with various hookup configurations. Holiday RV Campground in Grass Lake features large, level sites with full hookups including 50-amp service, operating from May through October. Harbortown RV Resort in Monroe accommodates big rigs and offers both 50-amp electric and sewer connections. ["Nice park for full timers. Large spots to accommodate big rigs and kids. Full hook ups. Cell service great with Verizon hotspot and AT&T cell."] Apple Creek Campground in Grass Lake provides 30-amp service and water hookups on mostly dirt sites with tree coverage for shade, while Hideaway RV Park near Jackson features pull-through sites with full hookups that can accommodate larger rigs.

Many RV parks in the region require advance reservations, particularly during summer weekends and fall color season. Most campgrounds offer sanitary dump stations, though Lake Hudson Recreation Area notably lacks this amenity, requiring campers to plan for dumping at nearby Hayes State Park or truck stops. Cell service varies by location, with Holiday Campground receiving positive reviews for both Verizon and AT&T coverage. Pet policies generally allow dogs with standard restrictions. Several parks remain operational into late October, with Camp Lord Willing RV Park & Campground in Monroe offering year-round availability. Electrical boxes at some parks, particularly at Lake Hudson, are positioned far from parking areas, necessitating extended power cords—one camper noted, "Extension or long electrical cords may be needed, as boxes are at back end and halfway to next site over."

    Wayne County Fairgrounds RV Park

    Typical Fairgrounds Campground

This is a typical fairground campground with open grassy areas for campsites surrounded by barns and tracks. The fairgrounds is located just off I-94 which makes for easy entrance and exit to the campground, but, means there is lots of road noise. Close by are plenty of stores, restaurants, gas stations, etc. In fact, there is a gap in the fence that runs around the fairgrounds allowing you to walk to a Walmart, McDonalds, Dunkin Donuts, and more.

We arrived without a reservation and the women in the office was very helpful providing a map with all available sites during our stay and letting us choose which one we wanted. One of the first things you notice is that a number of people are here long-term so we went to the back area hoping it would be quieter and less crowded. A number of the campsites are “buddy” sites meaning your patio opens to your neighbors so be careful which one you pick. This is pretty undesirable when the neighbor is a total stranger so we chose a site where we didn’t have anyone next to us.

They offer 50 amp full hook-up sites, 50 amp/water, and 30 amp/water sites with pull-thru and back-in options. There is a dump station located in the middle of the park which is easy to get to. The roads are wide and a lack of trees makes this campground accessible for any size RV. The sites are level but some lack grassy making the patio pretty dusty or muddy. Unfortunately, where we were was pretty muddy just after a light rain. This campground works best for RV’s and not tents. For tenters there is a designated section that is set in a corner of the park with large trees for shade but not much privacy between you and others. A water spigot is in the tent area and there was one picnic table. The camp office sells firewood but we only saw two fire pits in the whole park. Be aware that noise from the interstate and nearby train tracks may make for a restless night. Bathrooms are centrally located in the campground and were old and tired but relatively clean. On-site laundry is available.

Apparently, management is having some issues with campers not obeying some of the rules. One of the sad things about this campground is that campers have to be reminded to clean up after their dogs. Apparently, it is such an issue that we got a letter stating that if you don’t pick up your dogs poop you would be asked to leave. How sad is that? There is free WiFi which worked pretty well. Upon checking in, we had to sign a piece of paper stating that we would not download copyrighted material or stream movies or we would be asked to leave.

My favorite aspect of this campground is that they had a community garden that you were welcome to pick from. We got tomatoes, Swiss chard, peppers, broccoli, and more. Overall, this campground was fine for the few nights we were here and close to the attractions we wanted to visit. We never felt unsafe even though it was close to major cities. We chose this campground because we wanted to go to Ann Arbor and Dearborn and it was a very convenient location.

    Pros:

    ·        Good location if you want to visit Ann Arbor and Dearborn

    ·        Close to interstate for easy access

    ·        Long, level sites that will fit any RV

    ·        Community garden you can pick from vegetables

    ·        Stores and restaurants are nearby (some within walking distance)

    Cons:

    ·        Lots of road noise from I-94

    ·        No trees for shade or privacy

    ·        Would not recommend for tent camping

    ·        Many campers are long-term

    ·        “Buddy” campsites with patios facing each other

    Toledo East-Stony Ridge KOA

    Small basic campground near Toledo

Our site was $59.95 a night.

We were in Site# 504. We had Full hook- up with a gravel pull-through.
We travel towing a 14 foot trailer and were able to fit both in our pull through site along with my jeep. The site was easy to level. We were charged $25 additional for my jeep since we were towing the trailer. We also were charged $10 because we arrived at 1:25 PM and check-in is at 2 PM. The park was close to empty so arriving early was not an inconvenience. We drove ourselves to our spot (no escort).

Our site was shaded with lots of trees. This was a smaller lot with our neighbors fairly close.

The lot comes with a concrete patio with picnic table and fire ring. They sell wood for $6 a bundle.

There is free WiFi, although not strong. They offer Cable TV and there are many channels.

There is not a community outdoor kitchen or community fire pit.

They pickup your garbage at your site daily before noon.

You are allowed to ride personal golf carts. They do not provide golf cart rentals. There is really not a need to have a Golf cart because it is a smaller campground.

They do have a Swimming pool but it is currently closed due to maintenance (although it just looked closed- no signs of maintenance being done).

There is a Playground. They also offer horseshoes, corn hole, giant jinga.

They have a basic general store. There are not scheduled activities for kids.

There is not a snack bar/restaurant on site.

The streets are gravel so not great for riding bikes. This is an RV park with tent camping and cabins to rent.

They have one shower house. The shower house has individual bathrooms with your own sink, shower, toilet. These are kept very clean.

There is a laundry facility. It is a cash only facility, but they have a change machine. There are approximately 4 washers and 4 dryers. It is approximately $2.50 to wash and $2.50 to dry a load.

They have a small fenced in dog park.

There isn’t tons to doin the actual city of Perryville. But Toledo is a 20 minute drive.

    Holiday RV Campground

    Nice Park

Nice park for full timers. Large spots to accommodate big rigs and kids. Full hook ups. Cell service great with Verizon hotspot (22u, 20d, 38ms and AT&T cell(27d, 20u, 27ms). Playgrounds everywhere for the kids. Giant dog park and ponds. Pool was closed. Just needs more grass. Our spot was really patchy and resulted in a lot of mud.

Great campground with polite and helpful staff. Don’t pass this one up.

    Sterling State Park Campground

    Travel Trailers

This park will accommodate any size travel trailer? Fifth wheel camper of any kind, the pull throughs are huge. The park is enormous with lots of fishing activities. Great water, the only downfall is there's no shade. Showers and restrooms are updated and always clean.

My family and I love this park. Quiet with large level sites. Everything from back ins with only electrical to pull throughs with full hook-ups.

    Ted Ranch Campground

No thrills, largely rustic, family oriented, friendly

This campground is pretty rustic with water and electricity at some sites, no showers or restrooms, a dump station for one at a time, Porta potties scattered around, small beach, small boat launch, mostly appears to be seasonal sites without sewer or rustic sites. Some but not a lot of shade, rolling fields being made into smaller sized sites. Dogs and dogs pens are allowed, and they do not appear to have parents who are attentive or keep them from barking. Friendly staff and family of four owners.

    Sterling State Park Campground

    Great spot!

Wonderful views from site 117. We booked the last spot of the night. It was an easy pull through with water, electric, and sewer hookup. You are right across from some good walking trails and walking distance to the beach. Lots of electric scooters, dogs, and bikes around.

Guide to Tipton

RV sites near Tipton, Michigan generally offer varied terrain with a mix of wooded and open camping areas. Most campgrounds in this south-central Michigan region sit between 900-1,100 feet above sea level, with mild summer temperatures averaging 75-85°F from June through August. Seasonal campgrounds typically operate from mid-April through October, though several winter options exist for cold-weather camping enthusiasts.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: At Harbortown RV Resort in Monroe, campers can enjoy nearby fishing. "This is a nice campground. Relaxing and quiet. There are paths to ride your bike or just walk," notes camper Barry H.

Hiking trails: Wooded paths surround many campgrounds in the region. Holiday RV Campground features nature trails through farmland. One visitor mentioned, "It is predominantly all season campers but there are plenty of other spots open for short visits. Campground is surrounded by farming/country side."

Family recreation: Many campgrounds offer built-in entertainment options. "This campground has everything! Go carts, playground, disc golf, pool, ext... Just a one night stay to visit a friend. If you have kids it is perfect!" writes Noel L. about Harbortown RV Resort.

What campers like

Clean facilities: Campground cleanliness rates highly in reviews. "Nice and quiet, just got here last night haven't roamed yet," mentions one Holiday RV Campground visitor, while another notes, "This campground is family owned and very nicely kept up."

Spacious sites: Hideaway RV Park receives praise for its site dimensions. "Very spacious sites, all of which are full hookups for a very reasonable price. Nice people running this place," writes Curt in his review.

Seasonal activities: Many campgrounds host special events. Apple Creek Campground offers "activities on the weekend for the kids" according to William D., who appreciates the "great owners that care about the camping experience."

What you should know

Reservation systems: Some campgrounds have limited after-hours support. One Holiday RV Campground visitor noted challenges: "They say after hours is ok, unfortunately after confirming and paying in full for my site they forgot to post my site information which left me stranded in the pouring rain."

Road noise: Highway proximity affects some campgrounds. A Hideaway RV Park reviewer mentioned: "Small yet mostly quiet local camp. It's away from all of the daily hoopla but close to towns if you need things. Biggest downfall is the never ending traffic noise from the expressway."

Site conditions: Detroit/Ann Arbor KOA has varying site quality. One camper observed: "This is a new KOA so they are still transitioning from an RV park and are sprucing up the campground to KOA standards. Do not expect anything glamorous. The improvements appear to be gradual."

Tips for camping with families

Plan for rainy days: Weather can disrupt outdoor activities. A visitor at Apple Creek Campground noted: "The weather was rainy, so that is probably why we saw so few people." Have indoor games ready for unexpected weather changes.

Check playground conditions: Campground playgrounds vary widely in quality and maintenance. "There is a pool and a volleyball area as well as a playground. There is also nice walking/hiking trails connected right to the property," shares a visitor at Apple Creek.

Consider seasonal timing: Camp Lord Willing RV Park offers year-round availability, unlike most area campgrounds. "Stayed at Camp Lord Willing in June 2021 and it was a peaceful friendly environment with seasonal and experienced campers," notes one reviewer.

Tips from RVers

Site dimensions: When selecting RV sites near Tipton, verify your rig will fit. "We have a 21' camper and the sites feel small," notes one camper about Harbortown RV Resort.

Hookup access: Extension cords may be necessary at some campgrounds. At Detroit/Ann Arbor KOA, a camper shared: "The chalky gravel campsites and roads are raked everyday. They do roadside trash pickup throughout the day. I observed them come by twice a day."

Internet connectivity: Cell coverage and Wi-Fi vary significantly. A Heartland Woods Family Resort visitor reported: "The internet was not very good and Verizon cell phone was not good at all."
