Camp Sequoia
Great people nice for short stay
A mostly seasonal campground that can be had to find. Super amenities with huge pool and large field with dog park, baseball field, bags, basketball and sand volleyball. Many trails to walk.
Monroe-Toledo North KOA offers full pet-friendly facilities with separate dog walking areas for all camping styles, including tent sites and pet-friendly cabins. Pet owners pay a small nightly fee per pet with no breed restrictions at this campground located off the expressway. Sterling State Park Campground and Harbortown RV Resort also welcome pets at their sites with established pet policies requiring leashes no longer than 6 feet. Most campgrounds in the area require pets to be supervised at all times and some restrict pets from certain public areas. The rustic campsites at KOA are packed fairly close together but provide sufficient space for pets.
Wilderness Campground features a well-maintained pet exercise area adjacent to their catch-and-release fishing pond where many campers walk their dogs. The campground's new owners have implemented clear pet policies while maintaining clean facilities appreciated by campers with animals. Campers traveling with pets should note that weekend activity levels increase significantly at most Temperance area campgrounds, particularly during themed events like Halloween camping at Monroe-Toledo North KOA. The area offers several nearby hiking trails suitable for leashed pets, though most properties enforce strict quiet hours to minimize barking disturbances. Veterinary services are available within a 15-minute drive of most campgrounds in the region.

"We spent two nights here on our trip to Michigan. We were quite pleased with the campsites and how large they are."
"What we did not know was that 137 lacked shrubs on the yard side thus, we had a clear view of the camp host site next to us. Also, the loop's power station was on our site."
$20 - $65 / night
"I would guess 22 feet wide and I only had 5 feet behind my 30 foot camper until you reach the next camper."
"We live close to this campground so it was a fun weekend getaway. The kids loved playing on the water slide and swimming in the pond."

"It is a little open for our like but there good activities you can do with the kids or pets."
"You are right across from some good walking trails and walking distance to the beach. Lots of electric scooters, dogs, and bikes around."
"Basketball court, sand volleyball, playground, dog run, batting cages and go karts within walking distance. Very friendly staff and knowledgeable of the area."
"There are paths to ride your bike or just walk. The issue that I do have is the rules seem to try to scare."
"Highly recommend Wilderness State Park Campground on the north western point of lower Michigan! It’s amazing to see the sunset and the sunrise from the same spot and the Mackinaw Bridge!"
"The campground is also close to a lot of restaurants and shopping."
"The park was close to empty so arriving early was not an inconvenience. We drove ourselves to our spot (no escort).
Our site was shaded with lots of trees.""We stayed in a pull thru site which we felt was a really nice size and was wishing the weather was better so we could enjoy some outside time. The bathhouse was nice, clean, and updated."
$30 - $40 / night
"Has free firewood, outdoor sinks to wash dishes, access to a lot of hiking trails."
"Parking is general, but close to each site. We were there on a Monday night, only had one other tent in the campground. Nice flat sand pads for tents to set up on!"
"Been here 3 times now, and will return again.
11 is a great spot in the corner as far away from the house and entrance as you can get, almost always the first site booked lol."
$20 - $25 / night
"Wiregrass lake was a very nice camping atmosphere. There are only 3 camping spots around the lake so you’re not packed in like sardines. The atmosphere is very calm, quiet, and relaxing."
"3 camp sites available near fishable wiregrass lake in wiregrass metropark. Open year round. Firewood provide. Reservation required."

We really enjoyed our stay. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful. Delivered our firewood right to our site. Lots of shade trees, beautiful well groomed trails for walking. Even a dog park, which our Golden Retriever really enjoyed.
This campground has everything you could want. Kids areas, swimming pond and pool, dog park area and pleasant employees. Will definitly be going back soon!
Nice Park Nice park for full timers. Large spots to accommodate big rigs and kids. Full hook ups. Cell service great with Verizon hotspot(22u, 20d, 38ms and AT&T cell(27d, 20u, 27ms). Playgrounds everywhere for the kids. Giant dog park and ponds. Pool was closed. Just needs more grass. Our spot was really patchy and resulted in a lot of mud. Great campground with polite and helpful staff. Don’t pass this one up.

We stayed at this campground in the group camp area. The sites are tight but do provide water and 30 amp electric.
The campground offers a pond for fishing , swimming pool , bounce pad , inflatable lake fun, dog park and mini golf.
Since we were there as a group event we didn’t use any of the extras but it all looked nice and clean plus lots of fun.
Cell coverage was spotty but you could usually get some kind of signal.
The campground has a lot of seasonal sites as well as primitive tent camping and standard rv sites.
This is our second time camping here and both times were for a group camping event. For this type of event it’s a great park. We had a whole sector the event with water and electric sites.
If we were going to camp here on our own I am not sure I would like it since it’s mostly set up for seasonal campers. So there are no hiking trail and there is also a lot of golf cart traffic.
They do offer a swimming pool , pond with inflatable slides , dog park , bound pad and miniature golf.
We have been here a few times. Really enjoy the secluded sites and the lake. It’s a small campground but it’s clean and quiet. Most sites don’t have water hookups but they do have electric. There isn’t much to do outside of the campground but there is a nice lake with canoe and kayak rentals. Very pet friendly and even has a dog beach.
We stayed one night on our way to IN. We’ve never been here before and wanted to check it off our list. It’s a small campground with one side as equestrian and the other side not. All sites had electric and water, no full hookup. There were only drop toilets and no showers. They were clean but I don’t think I’d want to do more than a weekend there. It had a nice playground for kids and plenty of trails to hike or go horseback riding. They also had a dog park and small wildflower garden. The check in cabin had ice and wood for sale but no store. Our site was really nice. The pads were recently paved and had a huge bumper at the end. The fire ring was nice and the site had plenty of space for tents.
Temperance, Michigan sits at approximately 630 feet above sea level in a region characterized by glacial till plains and remnants of the Great Black Swamp. Winter temperatures can drop to single digits, while summer camping season typically runs April through October with average highs reaching 85°F. Local campgrounds feature a mix of wooded sites and open areas with varying degrees of privacy depending on the specific location.
Fishing opportunities: Sterling State Park Campground provides access to both Lake Erie and a smaller inland lake. "It has a boat ramp to put into Lake Erie. Not a lot of shade on the sites!" notes Debra B. The park also offers "several fishing piers as well as a kayak launch into a small inlet which is navigatable all the way to the beach, approximately two miles" according to Frances V.
Biking trails: Several campgrounds connect to local bike paths. "There is a bike path that will take you all the way to the Historic Rasin River Battlefield and then to downtown Monroe," mentions Frances V. about Sterling State Park. At White Oak Campground, "you can ride your bikes down the paved road to mallard lake where most of the parks trailheads and multi use trail access lies."
Water recreation: Beyond just fishing, water activities are plentiful. The River Raisin Canoe Livery & Campground offers boat rentals or you can "bring your own and launch from their dock" as Phillip S. mentions. At Wilderness Campground, campers enjoy the "beautiful beach and camp sites right on the water," according to Kaitlyn.
Clean facilities: Most campers appreciate well-maintained amenities. At Harbortown RV Resort, visitors note "clean bathrooms and shower rooms" and the "wood delivery is great!" The "new owners have implemented clear pet policies while maintaining clean facilities," which many pet owners appreciate.
Halloween camping events: The special themed weekends are a major draw. "I've been going to this campground for years, but mainly for the Halloween camping. Most sites decorate and some site go all out with haunted houses," reports Ryan M. Another camper mentions "Friends and family for a Halloween themed event weekend resulted in lots of fun and good times. The kids stayed busy and made new friends while the adults hung out."
Free amenities: White Oak Campground stands out for offering free firewood. "The sites are inexpensive and come with free firewood," notes Aaron. Another camper adds that there's also "a dish washing station near the restrooms, with a huge sink and hot water."
Campsite spacing varies significantly: Many campgrounds pack sites closely together. At Monroe-Toledo North KOA, Isaac R. notes "they pack in the campers super tight. I would guess 22 feet wide and I only had 5 feet behind my 30 foot camper until you reach the next camper." By contrast, White Oak Campground offers "nicely spaced and shaded" sites that aren't "right on the parking lot."
Noise factors: Several campgrounds experience noise from nearby transportation. Wiregrass Lake Metropark provides a "very calm, quiet, and relaxing" environment with "only 3 camping spots around the lake so you're not packed in like sardines." However, at Harbortown RV Resort, campers note "how close it is to the expressway which is noisy and there are trains that go by during the night."
Seasonal considerations: Water quality and insects change with seasons. At Sterling State Park, "Some time in June you can expect May Flies aka Fish Flies. Plan accordingly," advises Edward C. Another camper notes "First two nights were perfect but then the may flies hatched (in mid june) and covered everything."
Activity options: Several campgrounds offer dedicated family entertainment. At Wilderness Campground, "There is a playground, basketball hoops, jumping pad for kids, and more for kids to do." Harbortown RV Resort is "next door to putt putt go karts batting cages and arcade - this was pricey but fun."
Swimming areas: Dedicated swimming areas keep kids entertained. Cheryl H. mentions one campground has "a sandy beach, small lake, water slide, and plenty of family activities," though notes "it is very loud until about 11 pm." Another camper shares that "Kids loved the pond beach and the water slide."
Consider weekend crowds: Many campgrounds transform on weekends. Danielle B. notes "weekend activity levels increase significantly" while another camper adds "Busy on the weekends but so much to do it doesn't feel overcrowded. Great Lake, activities and elephant ear fries! Our family loved it!"
Hookup positioning: Pay attention to utility placement when selecting a site. At Harbortown RV Resort, one camper notes the "sewer connection was at very back of spot. We used dump station." Another mentions "all concrete roads and pads" which are "big rig friendly" with both back-in and pull-through options available.
Site leveling: Many campgrounds offer relatively level sites. At Maumee Bay State Park Campground, Chris A. notes "Sites are large, level, and grassy with vegetation barriers between sites with mowed buddy site access at back of each site." However, dumping can be challenging as "Sunday morning's line at the dump station can get very backed up!"
