We were informed that this was a free (by donation) campground. We stayed one night, intending for two, and in the early afternoon we were greeted by the park manager.
He informed us that the park was not open, but because of the misunderstanding we were okay to stay the night. We decided to be polite and just pack up and find somewhere else.
For anyone curious they open 5/9/2025 for reservations and ACTUAL camping.

It was a great place for Rainy Camping. We went during a pouring rain storm and our site remained relatively dry. We even enjoyed a small fire the next day.
Loved this place! Small store with local goods and basic needs, gated entry, wooded camping areas, small cabins, Camper Vans, you name it and it was there. I personally stayed at a tent site that was right next to the perfect view of the river with a beach area and fire ring. Potable water throughout. I'd absolutely return!
Perfect for family camping! Fishing, swimming, river walks, biking and movie nights!
Large basic cabin that is real rustic.
Tried to ask about winter camping and the lady was wicked rude
I flew out from Minnesota this December to ski in Maine. Had some good riding at Sunday River!
I really enjoyed my stay at Runaround Woods in Bobcat for three nights! The lodging was warm and comfortable with great views. I was able to watch the moon rise each night as I was falling asleep.
The campground was set in the woods with lots of wildlife and amazing views of the night sky. Fun walking trail around the property. I played multiple rounds of disk golf and stopped at the proshop for a runaround woods branded disk. The wood fired sauna was really nice after a day of snowboarding. The host Ryan was very accommodating and helped me get the most of my stay. Ryan help heat up the sauna and also had great recommendations for local dining and shopping.
Highly recommend this stay for anyone looking to get out and explore Maine! Fun and comfortable lodging with a great host!
I have been there earlier this month during a week day for a last minute break from work. Experience was great. Not only the ambiance (one of the rare locations to be just in front of this beautiful river) but also the location that is near all key hiking trails and attractions (ski resorts, breweries and restaurants).
Very nice campground. Plenty of space for 2 vehicles in campsite. Sites are spacious and and shaded. Flush toilets well stocked and clean. Showers available at camp store. Very nice and helpful staff. Surprising that campground does not allow pets. The campground is close to main road and was noisy at night. Visitor center and Flume Trail are nearby.
