Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Miramar Beach, FL

Camp On The Gulf welcomes pets with multiple designated pet walking areas and remains a popular choice for those traveling with dogs. Several spacious sites allow easy access to pet relief stations, with both upper and lower sections of the campground offering pet-friendly accommodations. Henderson Beach State Park Campground and Topsail Hill Preserve State Park Campground also permit pets with standard leash requirements. Most campgrounds in the Miramar Beach area maintain clean facilities with paved walking paths suitable for dog walks. Some sites are tight but staff helps navigate backing in, making setup easier for RVs with pets. The beach areas at Camp Gulf prohibit dogs, but designated pet areas throughout the grounds provide alternatives for exercise.

Geronimo RV Beach Resort provides a dog park on site with cement pad sites and all hookups, making it convenient for pet owners needing regular access outdoors. The park sits just a short two-block walk from the beach, though pets aren't permitted on most public beaches in the area. Pet owners should note that tiny biting insects can be problematic during certain seasons, potentially affecting outdoor time with animals. Local pet supply stores are available within short driving distance, and several veterinary clinics operate in Destin and Fort Walton Beach areas for emergency services. The grounds at most campgrounds remain well-maintained despite heavy pet traffic, with most facilities enforcing standard waste cleanup policies and leash requirements throughout common areas.

    Camp On The Gulf

    On the beach

We’ve been here the past two winters. Great proximity to the beach. Depending on your site several are just steps from the beach (actually on the beach if you don’t need sewer). If you aren’t familiar with the beaches in this area, they are GORGEOUS! Crystal blue water and sugar white sand. This is in Miramar Beach close to Destin. Not a bad drive to 30-A (30 min without traffic).

As far as the campground…this place is tired. Sites are decent. Don’t shy away from buddy sites…they are some of the best/most spacious. Bathhouse/rest rooms are pretty clean. The location alone is what makes us come back. They have a 3 month special in the winter (Nov 30-Mar 1) if you stay during those dates it’s around $1000/month.

    Raccoon River Campground

An adventurous paradise away from the ocean paradise

I have read a lot of the reviews. I think some of these people had other issues that caused them to give a bad review. Yes, this is known as a cat haven but with people who have dogs should stay in the dog parks, If they don't accept a place that cannot turn a blind eye to cats. This is an RV park and a campground and I'm not sure why people would expect more luxury than the outdoors experience. This is a beautiful getaway away from the ocean but right next door, and people would love this place if they knew the history behind it and maybe honor it a little bit more. The impact from people that don't like this place gives it a bad reputation. Why listen to someone who don't want you to know about the experience? Just want you to know what they think about it. This is a great place and there are a lot of hardworking, honest people. This is not just a campground, people are residents here and have been here a long time, some would even call it home. There's nothing wrong with anything about this place. It is a wonderful place to be.

    Camp On The Gulf

    Park On the Beach!

Just as nice as a resort but here you have direct access to the sand, because you can park directly on the beach! No need for shoes if you get a site on the sand. Sites are very tight here, but daytime staff escorts help you back into your site. Lush foliage and palms provide some division between sites and facility buildings. The showers and laundry houses are well above average and super cute, actually. The first beachfront row books out far in advance, but the drawbacks are that you cannot have dogs on that row (or on the beach) and you have to maneuver your tires in deep sand. The soft, white sand here is a dream on your feet but quite a challenge to park a big rig on. Still, you see plenty of Class A and toy haulers here. I stayed in site 705 on the second row from the beach and it was ideal for dogs. Beach front site 805 never showed up so I had a direct view to the waves for two nights. With everyone’s AC units on, you cannot hear the waves as you might have hoped, but the stars were very visible. This beach is really spacious and clean (besides being anti-dog), and the steep $125/night is justified when you step directly from your RV into the sand. The downside was really just the tightness of the sites. My neighbor’s awning nearly touched my camper on one side and I could not open my umbrella due to my other neighbor’s slide out. I would have been in trouble in this site had I had slide outs too. The two pools (water slide), kid-friendly food truck, and clubhouse seemed to keep the hordes of children entertained. Conveniently located near Sandestin on Miramar Beach between Destin and the cute resort town of Seaside. Lots of delivery food options nearby and Holi Indian Kitchen was particularly delicious (and vegan friendly). Can’t wait to return and stay longer next time.

    Geronimo RV Beach Resort

Shaded RV Enclave Close to Gulf Shores

I’m not sure if Geronimo ever visited this roadside RV depot, for which this and the road that you’ll have to navigate down to find this place are named for, but if he did, I am sure he would be happy to be somewhat removed from the crazy busy touristy town of Destin in favor of a plot of land that offers a bit of shade, respite from the sun as well as the noise and commotion of a Spring Break destination. Geronimo RV boasts about being a ‘hidden gem on the emerald coast,’ and if you are looking for a spot to park your oversized RV for the night, all the while being incredibly close to the pristine aqua green ebb and flow of slow moving Gulf coast waves that gently massage flawless white powder sand beaches here in a part of Florida where time seems to have stopped altogether, then Geronimo RV Resort might just be the spot for you.

Located just 3 miles from Destin, this family-friendly, pet-friendly and big-rig-friendly RV hangout is situated in Miramar Beach and just two short blocks to the sugar sand beaches that you came here for. This RV parking lot has just 34 slots, the majority of which are located on the interior and exterior of a decent size simple circular loop, with about 4-5 slots located nearer what looks to be like the main office (although it is not), along with a few slots placed in front of this same building that you’ll easily be able to spot as you drive in. For those wanting to store their RV or boat, there is also additional storage space at the front of the property and the southern side. You will discover that the actual main office is located just as you approach the circular loop and it will be immediately on your left as you turn left into the loop with a handful of places to park and check-in.

Amenities: level concrete large RV parking pads with patio, tree-shaded main RV parking loop, full hook-ups (30 / 50 electric amp, water (40-55 PSI) and sewage), free WiFI and Cable TV (70+ channels), 24 / 7 spartan clean bathrooms and showers, potable water and dump station, large recreation area for throwing the frisbee or taking the puppy for a walk, coin-operated laundr-O-mat as well as storage lots for boats, RVs and other vehicles.

Driving Directions: From Emerald Coast Pkwy: Turn onto Old Hwy 98, stoplight across from Silver Sands Premium Outlet and Chic-fil-A (Scenic Gulf Dr.). Follow Old 98 for approximately half a mile, and you will see Embassy Suites on your right. Turn right onto S. Geronimo St. Drive a few hundred feet and arrive at Geronimo RV Park on your left. Or from Hwy 98 turn on to S. Geronimo St, head South a quarter mile, then turn on to Arnett Lane where our sign is located.

Insider’s Tips: (1) One irritating element about Geronimo is that they will only allow you an RV+ another vehicle, but if you come packing a golf cart, motorcycle or even a boat, then they will charge you for two vehicles and make you park this in another spot (and charge you nightly for it), so think twice before you bring your entire caravan to this place; (2) For my tent-pitching bredren, there is ‘no luck at the Inn here’ as this is only an RV parking site, so head on over to nearby Henderson Beach State Park if you want to find a simply fantastic camping spot right near the Gulf; and (3) When you get tired of trying to fix a meal with the leftovers in your onboard mini-fridge and want to try out some local fare I HIGHLY recommend nearby Brotula’s for simply fantastic Dungeness, King and Snow Crab that you can wash it down with a local micro-brew or stunning glass of Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc.

    Happy Camping!

    A Cozy Corner RV Lodge

    Quaint RV Park!

Easy check in online. FHU-some shade, level concrete pad, picnic table. Easily backed in our 40 ft Montana. Very clean bathrooms, didn’t use just looked. Washer and dryer, and nice dog park. Close to lots of stores and restaurants, 20-30 min from beaches depending on traffic. Some traffic noise, since it’s next to a main road.

    River's Edge RV Campground

    Swampy!

We arrived and everything was dry. The next morning, our site had literally turned into a pond. By the time I finished packing up to leave, I literally looked like I jumped in the river with all of my clothes on. Haha I guess that’s camping in Florida for ya. The park was nice overall. The bathrooms were okay. Full hookups and lots of trees so our service was a little spotty.

Guide to Miramar Beach

Camping options near Miramar Beach stretch along Florida's Emerald Coast between Choctawhatchee Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. The region features coastal dune lakes, a rare geographical feature found in only a few places globally. Winter temperatures typically range from 40-65°F while summer brings consistent 85-90°F heat with high humidity, affecting camping conditions especially for tent campers.

What to do

Paddle the coastal dune lakes: Topsail Hill Preserve State Park offers unique paddling access to several rare coastal dune lakes. "Good trails, coastal dunes with lakes, fishing, paddling, beach, cabins, and tent camping including Glamping!" notes James M. about the preserve's diverse water recreation options.

Hike through natural habitats: Grayton Beach State Park Campground features several accessible nature trails. "Unique lake dunes offered trails, beach access, and paddling/fishing," writes James M., highlighting the park's environmental diversity. The park provides access to both the Gulf and inland waterways.

Wildlife viewing at sunset: Henderson Beach State Park Campground offers prime locations for wildlife spotting. "Walking path to the beach and the beaches are so clean and baby powder soft," reports Gina W. Visitors frequently spot shore birds and occasionally deer during evening hours.

What campers like

Privacy between sites: Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park Campground receives praise for site spacing. "Sites are large with split rail fencing around each site. Restrooms are very clean," explains Kim B., noting the park's layout creates natural separation between campers.

Clean bathroom facilities: Campground cleanliness stands out in reviews. "The bathhouse was very clean and there were men and women restrooms as well as private bathroom/showers," Elizabeth G. reports about Henderson Beach State Park, where individual shower rooms include toilets and sinks.

Beachfront proximity: Many visitors appreciate Camp On The Gulf for its direct beach access. "Great but tight camping just 10 steps from the beautiful sandy beach. Lots of great and clean amenities," shares Mike B., highlighting the campground's primary attraction despite compact spacing.

What you should know

Reservation timelines: Peak season requires extensive planning. "Book well in advance it's very popular!" advises Larry about Henderson Beach State Park, where reservations often fill 11 months ahead for winter stays.

Site differences at each campground: Sites vary significantly in size and privacy. At Topsail Hill, "The tent sites are all separated and private, the facilities are clean, and best of all they have access to the most lovely beach!" notes Robin B., contrasting with tighter spacing at beachfront locations.

Military options available: Eglin AFB FamCamp - Camp Robbins offers affordable alternatives for eligible personnel. "For the price, location and security I would give it five stars. We stayed at Camp Robbins for 10 days and for what we payed for that time would have only payed for one night at a hotel," explains lowrent0321, highlighting significant cost savings.

Tips for camping with families

Private bathroom options: Several campgrounds offer family-friendly facilities. "Family showers are also available, which is very helpful with little kids," notes Kim B. about Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou, addressing a key concern for parents with young children.

Seasonal activities for kids: Spring and summer bring structured programming at several locations. "The week we were there they had a different activity for the kids each day. They had painting sand dollars, bubba the alligator show, face painting and even an Easter egg hunt," shares Monica G. about seasonal events.

Playground access: Destin Army Recreation Area offers dedicated children's areas. "They have a nice clean pool and splash area for kids, a boat ramp and marina where you can rent boats, and a 300' fishing pier. They have a playground for the kids," explains Jason B. about the military recreation facility's family-friendly amenities.

Tips from RVers

Backing assistance available: Staff often help position vehicles at tighter campgrounds. "The staff is super helpful helping you to park because the spaces are tight," explains Monica G. about the compact layout at Camp On The Gulf.

Site leveling considerations: Prepare for varying site conditions. "We required a couple of blocks to achieve level but still very good for an all gravel site," explains Tony C. about Henderson Beach State Park's setup, recommending minimal leveling equipment.

Seasonal crowds impact amenities: Off-season offers quieter experiences with better access. "The pool was nice but it could have been more clean than it was," notes Andrea W., mentioning that high-traffic periods can affect facility maintenance at even the best-rated dog friendly campgrounds near Miramar Beach.
