Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Melbourne, FL

Wickham Park Campground's pet-friendly sites accommodate both tent and RV camping with full hookups across its scenic property featuring multiple ponds for fishing. Dogs can join their owners at nearly all Melbourne-area campgrounds including Long Point Park, Brevard County Park, and Sebastian Inlet State Park. The sites remain clean with nice spacing between them, particularly in the waterfront sections where campers can enjoy views while keeping pets leashed. Manatee Cove Family Campground at Patrick Air Force Base maintains a quiet, wooded atmosphere with some sites offering waterfront access along the historic Banana River. Multiple campgrounds like Camelot RV Park provide dog exercise areas while enforcing standard pet policies requiring waste cleanup and leash control.

Nearby trails through Wickham Park offer extensive walking paths where campers regularly exercise their dogs throughout the expansive grounds. The Renaissance Faire grounds within Wickham Park provide additional exploration opportunities for leashed pets. Beach access points near Patrick AFB and Sebastian Inlet allow for salt water activities with pets, though specific beach regulations vary. Most Melbourne campgrounds maintain clean shower facilities and laundry access important for extended stays with pets. Campers should note that sections in some parks (particularly C section at Wickham) contain long-term residents with varying levels of site maintenance. Proximity to veterinary services in Melbourne and grocery stores provides practical convenience for pet owners needing supplies during their stay. The parks' central location provides easy access to Melbourne's attractions while maintaining natural settings where dogs and owners can enjoy Florida's outdoor lifestyle.

    Jetty Park Campground

    Bad

No dogs allowed and they like many Florida parks should have some way for Fl residence to actually be able to camp in Florida but no they don’t

    Super chill place

Great place for a stop over. Needed a place to hangout for a few weeks. This place fit the bill. Dog park, little restaurant, general store, pool, basketball court and lots of shaded spots (my fave when in Florida) would definitely recommend.

    Sonrise Palms RV

Peaceful Pocket on the Space Coast

There is something instantly calming about pulling into Sonrise Palms RV Park (you will want to note that misspelled 'Sonrise' otherwise you won't find this place on your GPS), tucked just off I-95 in Cocoa, where the pace slows down and the setting feels more like a quiet neighborhood packed with RVs than a busy campground, with spacious, mostly level sites, palm trees and greenery scattered throughout along with an EZ layout that makes settling in feel effortless. With around 80 to 90 full hookup sites, a heated pool, clean bathhouse and laundry, and even small touches like a dog park and canal fishing, this spot has all the essentials covered without feeling overwhelming. One evening, we grabbed a casual dinner nearby called The Grass Shack and came back to let the boys unwind at the pool while my hubby and I walked the grounds, spotting little bits of wildlife and enjoying that warm Florida night air before heading back for a cozy wind-down at our site. I would absolutely recommend this campground for families looking for a relaxed, low-key stay thanks to its quiet atmosphere, very clean bathroom and shower facilities as well as EZ access to nearby beaches, rocket launches and Space Coast adventures just a short drive away.

    Manatee Hammock Campground

Best place to see a launch!

THIS quaint little park is so delightful. With so many gorgeous water birds and trees. The park sits off the Indian River and is the perfect place to catch a launch. The are also very dog friendly and have a dog park. The dock is also the perfect place to catch some redfish or snook. Had a wonderful time in this tucked away little spot.

Management is a nightmare for long term. Save your trouble and go elsewhere

We sold our house in West Palm Beach and relocated to Vero Beach for work, choosing to stay in our RV at this park while awaiting our new home to be built. Initially, we were excited, but the management at this park turned out to be a nightmare. Despite the reasonable and straightforward rules, we faced constant harassment. We have two dogs that we walk multiple times a day. There are no trash cans or doggy bags on the property except in the dog park, so we took the initiative to buy an outdoor trash can and a bulk supply of dog waste bags to ensure we cleaned up after our pets. Yet, we received weekly notices accusing us of not cleaning up after our dogs. Each time I went to the main office to discuss these notices, I was told to“just ignore it” as it was likely a“pesty neighbor.” Additionally, when family visited us for the day and parked at our RV slot, we received notices about parking violations. After discussing this with the office, we were advised to have our visitors park in the lot by the restaurant, which we did. Despite this, we continued to receive notices for various infractions, such as improper water hookup and not stopping completely in the neighborhood. This felt like borderline harassment. As responsible adults who strive to follow regulations, we were perplexed and frustrated by these continuous and unfounded accusations. Each time we sought clarification from the office, they dismissed our concerns, blaming"nosey neighbors" and suggesting neighborly disputes were at play. Ultimately, we were given a 30-day notice to vacate the property. This experience is particularly disappointing because we had suggested this park for our upcoming family reunion, which would have brought 47 rentals for a week. Now, I can't wait to leave this place. For anyone considering a short-term stay, this park may suffice. However, I strongly advise against bringing pets unless you want to be harassed and falsely accused. For those seeking a long-term rental, avoid this park at all costs, as you will face weekly harassment. Furthermore, we had several packages confirmed as delivered to the“receptionist/front desk,” which mysteriously went missing, apparently mishandled by the staff. Our initial excitement to be part of the Road Runner community has completely dissipated. I am eager to leave and will never return. I do not recommend this park and will be warning others. 0/10.---

    Love this park, Dog friendly

It is so nice, right on the Indian river. There is a large fenced Dog Park on the riverfront. Near Titusville, FL. You can see Kennedy Space Center across the water.

    Tent folk: bring earplugs

Arrived here for a three-night tent stay at spot 153. The campground is easily accessible from the highway, and a breeze to check in. Friendly staff. Dumpsters behind the main office. All roads are one-way counterclockwise. The bathroom and laundry room are about 100 meters from spot 153. Both are clean. There's a nice pavilion overlooking the water inside the eastern loop. There's a good size, fenced-in, leash-free dog park next to the water. The water views are beautiful at sunrise. There's a pier for fishing and just serene eastern observation toward Cape Canaveral. There's a kayak launch ramp as well.

Spot 153 was perfectly partially shaded, with a mix of sand and grass, and it was level. The only critters seen here are playful squirrels. RV spots can be quite close to each other, but not many of their inhabitants were seen outside during these chilly, mid-December days when the temperature dipped to 40F at night, and high 50's in the day. All spots have electric and picnic table. The water spigot at 153 was about two inches from the ground. Why?

The only downside of the campground is its proximity to railroad tracks and airport. The noise seemed to be constant on weekdays.

Guide to Melbourne

Melbourne's eastern coastal region combines freshwater ponds with Atlantic Ocean access, creating diverse camping environments with consistent humidity and average temperatures of 72-90°F from May through October. The area features multiple water systems including the Banana River, Sebastian Inlet, and Indian River where campers can observe manatees and dolphins throughout the year.

What to do

Kayaking access points: Sebastian Inlet State Park offers excellent water entry for paddlers with both inlet and ocean options. "There are no bad spots at this park. Gorgeous views of the inlet and enough trees for shade but without the being a hindrance during parking. Lovely area to walk and see finishing and plenty of wildlife," notes Tracey T.

Fishing opportunities: Multiple fishing spots exist throughout the area's interconnected waterways. At Long Point Park Campground, campers can fish directly from their sites. "Pros: Location, price, wildlife, fishing, nice sites with tons of water access. Boat Ramp and trailer parking. Some sites have shore anchoring," reports Spencer D.

Wildlife observation: The coastal region provides habitats for diverse Florida wildlife. "We saw a giant sea turtle bigger than a manhole cover. We watched dolphins play at sunrise. We were parked right across from the water," shares Nora B. about her experience at Manatee Hammock Park.

What campers like

Water proximity sites: Waterfront access ranks highly among camper preferences. "This small campground was very full in middle of Florida winter season. While most sites appeared flat, there is not privacy between them and no shade in hot Florida sunshine. We were lucky with a quiet location in Site #3, and only 1 neighbor next to us," explains Terry S. at Long Point Park.

Convenient park amenities: Jetty Park Campground provides accessible facilities that enhance camping comfort. "Sites are a bit small, but wow, it's got everything. Breakfast/lunch place, a restaurant with bar within walking distance. Bathrooms are basic but clean. Staff is wonderful," states Rani D.

Launch viewing spots: Many Melbourne-area campgrounds provide prime rocket launch viewing. "You can see space launches, close to KSC, beach, jetty. Spectacular," adds Rani D. about Jetty Park's location advantages for space enthusiasts.

What you should know

Site variations: Campground layouts and site quality vary significantly throughout the area. At Manatee Hammock Campground, "26 acres, small campground; most sites are relatively close to each other; lots of trees and shade; beautiful water views from several campsites, specially sites 51, 13, 65-69, 169, 170," notes Jorge F.

Environmental conditions: Insects can affect camping comfort in this region. "No-see-ums are almost unbearable in the evening. But that come with the territory in Florida. Pack long-sleeves, pants, and serious bug spray," advises Spencer D. about Long Point Park Campground.

Noise factors: Some Melbourne campgrounds experience transportation noise. "The only downside of the campground is its proximity to railroad tracks and airport. The noise seemed to be constant on weekdays," reports L O. about tent camping at Manatee Hammock.

Tips for camping with families

Park activities: Wickham Park Campground offers extensive recreation options beyond standard camping. "Took my son camping this weekend to our hometown park. It's a great place with lots of bike/walking paths and wide open, quiet spaces. Hope to take advantage of the fishing ponds, mountain bike trails and archery range in future visits," shares Jeff F.

Beach access considerations: Beaches near Melbourne campgrounds often require short drives. "We enjoyed Satellite Beach which is a couple of miles south of the base. Right along the eastern coast too!! Be prepared for aircraft activity such as C-130's and helicopters coming in and out, as the FamCamp is near the end of one of the runways. Kids really liked this part," mentions Jason B.

Seasonal planning: Winter remains high season with limited availability. "It is hard to get a reservation in the winter as all the snow birds are down from the north," warns Christal about Long Point Park Campground.

Tips from RVers

Site selection strategies: Manatee Cove Family Campground offers waterfront options with some limitations. "Nice wooded lots... nice change of scenery here on the Florida coast. Quite and Peaceful. Not a 'party' campground like Long Point. The Staff in the office was helpful and friendly. The lots ran on the small side. Any one with a 42 footer or more might struggle in a few spots," advises Melissa B.

Pet-friendly accommodations: Space Coast RV Resort provides specific pet amenities alongside standard rules. "This park is clean, quiet, safe, and near attractions we love," states Laura H., whose detailed review mentions the park's multiple pet-friendly features alongside standard rules for waste management and control.

Weather readiness: Summer storms and humidity require specific preparation for RVers camping near Melbourne. Sebastian Inlet State Park reminds tent campers to "bring strings" as "it is hard to stick the tent poles because it is gravel floor," according to Andrea, highlighting the need for secure setup in this coastal environment.
