    **THE YURT IS CURRENTLY UNAVAILABLE**

Use the tent, bring and stay in your campervan or pitch your own tent. Pack in what you pack out.

    The Tent

A large 8-10 person waterproof canvas bell tents on top of a 16 ft x 18 ft platform - 16 feet in diameter. The tent has low profile windows that go around the perimeter of the tent and a large netted door with double zippers for privacy. There is a propane heater that you can use on cooler nights but propane is not provided. The heater takes the little green cans. There is also one air mattress with a battery power air pump if you wish to use it. The batteries may or may not be good so if you are planning on using it please make sure to bring 4 D batteries just in case. Parking space next to the tent so you wont have to carry your gear very far. This is a primitive site and does not have water or electric. Please pack in what you pack out.

    The Property

The property is marked off with green poles with pink flag tape on the tops. You are free to roam anywhere inside this area. During the summer months rattlesnakes are active in the area so please be aware of what is around you when walking around. Also the tent is guidelines around the whole tent for support. Please do not mess with the guidelines and be careful when walking around them so you don't trip.

There is a fire pit in front of the tent to use when you are allowed. Please check local weather for "Red Flag Warnings" in area 225 (San Luis Valley). If there is a warning for that area it is illegal to outside open fires.

    Great Spot

Was able to find a really nice open spot with amazing views of the mountains. Was big and spacious enough for me and my friend to camp in our vans. No one around for miles!

    Tree sheltered sites along

I walked up the road about three miles on the way to the lake because the beginning of the road was way to rough for my van with large rocks about 6 inch diameter.  There were lots of people disperse camping on the hilside above Como Road.

    Red River access

We camped right to. The Red River, the site was fairly clean but we cleaned up what the campground host failed to pick up.

Picnic table and fire ring. Pit toilet was clean.

This is a great place to stay and it allows for day trips into Taos and Valle Vidal which is a spectacular trip. We saw large herds of bison roaming and had to wait for 20 minutes while they crossed the dirt road.

Good spot if you get there early

There’s plenty of spots off the main road, but seems like you need to get there early. We showed up around 6 pm. The road does get pretty rough eventually, and we didn’t trust our minivan going through the “unmaintained” section, we turned around and were able to find a connecting side road that had plenty of open space out there. When entering the road initially, the side road would be about half way up to your left. Pretty close to Great Sand Dunes National Park, so we were happy with this location! Nice mountain view.

    Quick Stop

Quick and easy to find. Area was easily accessible. A great option for those on a budget and attempting to avoid paying fees for one night stays. Nice views of the valley and mountain behind. Sites were not the most level going up the mountainside and a bit rocky. Would stay there again!

    Beautiful views & Isolated

This place is good for those who have clearance and a 4WD. Road can be rough but pretty much all pickups are good. Don’t need a jeep. If it rains, you could get in trouble. The views are beautiful. Especially higher up. Some spots, I didn’t find tons of spots. I was the only one here on a Friday night last week if July 🤷🏼‍♀️. Or if there were others I didn’t know it. You get cover of some trees quicker than the sacred mountain location farther south on same road. You have to open a gate to get in. I would recommend it, and will probably be back at some point.

    Great place with river access

This has been once of the best places we have stayed, There is no electric hook ups at the site. I can hear noise from the road but it really didn’t bother us. We did have river access at our site. Camp host was great. We stayed another night as we really enjoyed the area.

    Dispersed Mountain Views !

This campsite is very popular, I would definitely recommend arriving early morning time to secure a spot. We got in fairly late in the night from Texas and had to drive in a ways. Many people left early in the morning so sites opened up fairly quickly. The road is graded and then turns into a rocky road that is manageable in a crossover for a ways then high clearance will be needed. There was a small flooded portion that is next to the helipad but we just drove up onto the helipad to get around it as to not risk getting stuck. There are plenty of sites available and even a circle drive in the front of the road if you don’t feel like venturing in during the night. There are A TON of flies! Lots of bug spray and loose clothing to avoid those pesky biting flies. We had a beautiful view of the mountain and Great Sand dunes is a short 20 minutes away. Our pups loved the large open spaces but beware of cacti and tiny burrs.

    Excellent park

The pinion campground was a great choice for our first rv stay. The park is accommodating with toilets and showers at the campgrounds and has hiking trails and plenty of lake to fish from. We stayed two nights during the week and it was plenty quiet at night and the campsite was a relatively good size. Ours had 30 amp service, and had a spigot not far, to fill our fresh water tank. There was a dump station that was free to use also. Great views and the sand dunes were only an hour away. I highly recommend this place.

Best spot ever! And right on the river for fishing

We stayed at camp site #27, which was the biggest and spacesious site, 10/10 the weather was wonderful and if you camp during the week you can pick any spot you want! Caught plenty of trout and overall had a great time. Site #30 was probably the other best one as it was in the back and last camp site and right next to the water. Only downside to that one is father back to walk with camp gear.

    Easy access, Level, No services

Easy road in from I25. Basically a big level parking lot with sites on the outer loop that easily accommodate big rigs. One side has a view of the mountains. The other side has a view of the forest and creek. No power. No water hookups but there is a central spigot that can be used to refill. No black dump anywhere in the park. Good Verizon and T-Mobile signal. Cool weather even in July. Despite the negatives I loved the area. NOTE - most park trails are closed until the end of July due to calving season.

    A nice place!

The scenery was beautiful, but very windy at times. Also the person that stayed before me left a lot of trash in the fire pit, so we cleaned that up before the campfire. It’s also loud with the 18 wheelers driving down the main road. If you’re camping in a van or camper shell, it’s probably not a big deal. If you roof top tent camp or regular tent camping, it gets loud.

    Beautiful Spot

A very short drive off the road, open and close the gate to get in. We parked up by a little stream in an E350 RV. Ground a bit bumpy, but drivable if you go slow. Cell signal okay, 5G 4bars AT&T but about 1-3 Mbps. Amazing wide open Mountain View’s. Many many bitey bugs!

    Fantastic views

We stayed here 1 night on our trip back to Texas from Colorado.

Plenty of room for several rvs/vans  and tent campers.  Picnic tables and trash bins available.  No shade, no potable water, no electric, no sewer.  True boondocking site.  There are pit toilets at the entrance to the camping zone.   Roads are gravel and well maintained.

Great site for a touch-n-go overnight stay while traveling.

    Happy we ended up here

We ended up here by mistake, thinking we were at the Sacred White shell BLM. Glad we did though. Great views of The Twin Peaks and Blanca Peak. Lots of flat open space down low. We stopped as the road steepened and set up in a big spot that was close to the road. No complaints considering we got here an hour before dark. Views for miles here!
