RV sites near Ross, California typically sit within 30 miles of the coastline at elevations ranging from sea level to 500 feet. The Mediterranean climate features mild, wet winters and warm, dry summers with average temperatures between 50°F and 80°F year-round. Most RV parks in the region remain open throughout all seasons, though coastal locations often experience morning fog during summer months.
What to do
Beach exploration: 15-minute drive from Marin RV Park to Stinson Beach on Highway 1. "A short 10 minute walk from the RV park is the ferry that will drop you off downtown San Francisco. We spent a week here and only drove when we wanted the experience driving down Lombard St and driving across the Golden Gate Bridge," notes Jeff T.
Wine tasting in Sonoma: 45 minutes north of camping areas near Ross. "Nice location that is close to a beach and also the marina. Spaces are level gravel areas and some are a little tight. A short walk you can access a small beach," reports Kevin D. from Porto Bodega Marina & RV Park.
Coastal hiking trails: Multiple options within 5-10 miles of rv sites near Ross. "We have a Ford E350 van with a bed conversion in back. No need for hookups but they are available. You can see the Milky Way at night while listening to the soft foghorn and every now and then a soft bark of a seal," shares Duranne C.
What campers like
Oceanfront settings: Premium views despite tight spacing at coastal parks. "This is an interesting rv park on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It has a ca beach town feel, but is just 20 minutes from San Francisco. Walgreens, Safeway, and a couple coffee shops, local bakery and restaurants all walking distance. Spectacular sunsets over the pacific if the fog permits," writes Tom H. about San Francisco RV Resort.
Public transportation access: Convenient options for visiting San Francisco without driving large vehicles. "Drive in, park and then walk to all the sights you want to see in San Francisco. A short 10 minute walk from the RV park is the ferry that will drop you off downtown San Francisco," explains a visitor to Marin RV Park.
Local seafood: Fresh options near coastal RV parks. "This place was great full hook up W,E,S,C you get a fire pit and a picnic table, 3 minute walk to restaurant and deli, public restroom is clean every morning and garbage gets emptied," writes Filipino Jack T. about Porto Bodega Marina & RV Park.
What you should know
Site spacing constraints: Extremely close quarters at most parks. "The other reviews are accurate about it just being a glorified parking lot. Most rigs have an excellent view of their next door neighbors slide out. When we arrived our neighbors truck was parked in our spot so we had to knock and ask him if he could move it," reports Brodie D. about Treasure Island MH and RV Park.
Premium pricing: Expect $100+ per night for coastal locations with hookups. "Bodega Bay CA. On the water. Grounds well maintained. No toilet paper in men's bathroom. First place in CA where no recycling offered. No signs to direct you to office. Full hook ups over $100. Dry sites for $65," notes Nancy L.
Wi-Fi considerations: Quality varies substantially between parks. "This is an absolutely great spot! Restrooms and showers are clean and the staff is great. Not a far drive to the city either. Price is higher than other places but this close to the city with all of the amenities a pretty good deal," states Luke D.
Tips for camping with families
Activity restrictions: Check rules regarding children at each park. "This was a very well kept place. Everything else in the area was full, so we stayed here. It's not the best for families though. No bike riding or scooting, so we had to walk them to the walking path. They also mention a few times about well behaved children," reports Stephanie E. about Bodega Bay RV Park.
Limited recreation areas: Some parks offer minimal amenities for children. "Our group stayed here in early August of 2017. This RV resort gets packed!! RV's were super close together so it's a roll of the dice on what kind of neighbors you're gonna get!! There are a few picnic tables around, but nothing in terms of entertainment for kids," shares Rosie R.
Wildlife encounters: Prepare for local fauna including raccoons at coastal parks. "They have raccoons but don't tell you that, we didn't leave anything out but had muddy footprints all over our table in the morning! Their garbage cans are not raccoon proof so every morning there's garbage scattered around and someone comes and picks it all up," explains Jennifer J.
Tips from RVers
Hookup extensions: Bring additional hose/cable for some sites. "Spaces for RVs are unpaved and additional cars are on cement. Hookups are pretty far away and needed my sewer extension," advises C.W. about Treasure Island MH and RV Park.
Leveling requirements: Sites at several parks need adjustment. "Clean and well laid out. Laundry has 3 washers and 3 dryers. Prices are high but normal for CA. Sites are all gravel with a picnic table and divided by a fence," reports Msmetoo48 S. about Bodega Bay RV Park.
Advanced reservations: Essential especially for weekend stays at Sonoma County Fairgrounds RV Park. "We spent a comfortable night here on our way through the Bay Area. Very convenient location," notes Chris N. about a nearby RV park.
