Best Dog-Friendly Camping near Los Alamitos, CA

Los Alamitos Army Campground provides full hookups in both Legacy and Sunset parks, with military-only access for tent, RV, and glamping accommodations. The Legacy park features gravel spaces for smaller RVs while Sunset offers cement pads with extra parking spots. Located on a secure military base, both areas require military credentials or veteran status for entry. Newport Dunes RV Resort, Bolsa Chica State Beach Campground, and Seabreeze at Seal Beach all welcome pets with varied amenities. Several campground hosts are notably helpful with pet-related questions. Beach-adjacent locations provide excellent opportunities for dog walking along boardwalks and coastal paths.

Beach walking paths at Bolsa Chica State Beach Campground offer endless routes for daily dog exercise, with the boardwalk extending for miles in either direction. RV campers appreciate the ocean-front spaces despite Pacific Coast Highway noise requiring earplugs at night. Military installations like Seabreeze at Seal Beach feature wildlife reserves adjacent to the park, making them ideal for dog walking. Most campgrounds in the area maintain concrete pads with hookups rather than natural settings. Nearby veterinary services are accessible within short driving distance from most parks. Visitors with pets should note that Seabreeze at Seal Beach allows only RVs despite listings showing tent sites. The wetlands on military bases attract abundant bird populations, requiring dogs to remain leashed when walking near these sensitive areas.

    Waterfront RV Park

    Waterfront RV Park, CA

Located in Huntington Beach California. This site is right across the street from the beach. Be careful and aware when staying here. My husband and I had our mountain bikes stolen when sleeping. When we asked for camera footage the owners of the campground claimed the cameras were broken and they couldn’t share the footage. There are many homeless folks living in the area. The showers don’t get hot, but the area is clean. There is a pool and a hot tub and a small dog park. It’s expensive to stay here, but a beautiful spot.

    Hollywood RV Park

    Themed Park!

First of all, staff was amazing. We were originally supposed to arrive on a Tuesday and we’re not able to make it. Staff shifted our reservation instead of us eating the missed night cost. Also super accommodating allowing us to extend a day longer last minute. Park is tight quarters with 200 spots. Two laundry rooms/bathrooms with showers on site, plus a cute little dog park! We stayed for three nights. Every “road” in the park is themed with California or Hollywood themed decorations and murals. We were parked right next to a Mister Roger’s mural across from the laundry/bathrooms. My only complaint in the noise level at times which is not from the park itself. Helicopters would fly over randomly, sometimes at night and it could be annoying when trying to sleep. Otherwise, absolute GEM of a place!

Launch Pointe Recreation Destination and RV Park

    Nicest cleanest campground

I had site 126 in the fields, corner site and lake view. This campground has a pool, splash pad, park, dog park and access to the lake. They also have a band on Saturday nights. The only bad part is they strictly enforce quiet time at 10pm. I felt like a kid being told to go to bed. I feel like on weekends people should be able to stay up late in front of their camper with low voices. Shouldn’t be hounded night after night! That was my only complaint.

    Hare School Park

It’s the sports fields parking lot

I’ve been here for a couple days and nobody’s mess with us. There’s other people that are staying in another parking lot attached that are homeless in their vehicles mostly cars and vans. I’m in a 25 foot Fleetwood RV. There’s a dog park kind of area with a big field they can run around and just clean up after them. There’s no public bathrooms, but there are trash cans so clean up after yourself please. It’s not tent friendly. I don’t believe.

    Palm View RV Park

    This place is good

This is our 2nd time here it's quiet and they have the most interesting walkabout garden with little kickbacks where u can chill with whoever. If you don't have anybody walk on over next to the garden to find some nice goats and sheep and up on the little hill there's cute chickens of all whom can be pet as for they are all used to being pet. We bought some food that we feed them.

Anaheim RV Park - PERMANENTLY CLOSED

Disney Camping - Clean, Pool, Very Nice Restrooms/Showers

Anaheim RV Resort is close to Disney and is on the Anaheim Resort Transportation (ART) bus route. They have full hook up sites and room for large rigs - back-in and pull through. They are very pet friendly and even have a dog walking/feeding service (for an extra fee). There is a small pool and hot tub. The restrooms/showers and newly remodeled and very nice! Sites are all level and fairly large. We've stayed here 4 times and will be back again!

Rolling M. Ranch Campground — Chino Hills State Park

    Beautifully scenic area

Sprawling lush green hills? Can’t beat Chino Hills State Park.
The campground itself feels very close together and wide open compared to the space of the park. Gets loud at night if there are too many groups camping. No cell service. Super clean bathrooms and showers.

PET OWNERS BEWARE: Our dog munched on a frog at this campsite and started foaming at the mouth. We rinsed her mouth out with water and she turned out fine, but a smaller dog or a swallowed frog and she could have died from toxicity.

    Bonita Ranch Campground

    Loved this spot!!

A little gem hiding out in Lytle Creek! Easy access to a pretty trail right behind the campground. Very quiet and interspersed with long time stayers and temporary campers. I stayed in my van and had my cat and dog with me. Campfire wood was easily available and had its own picnic table. Beautiful scenery and we even got a dusting of snow! I stayed two nights while in town for work and it was perfect.

Guide to Los Alamitos

The area maintains mild temperatures year-round, averaging 63-83°F, making camping viable in all seasons. Urban camping in this region provides unique access to both beach amenities and city conveniences while remaining close to wilderness reserves.

What to do

Beach access activities: Crystal Cove State Park offers extensive coastal recreation options. "There are plenty of restaurants close by, as well as the beach. It's a great spot to stay if you want to be close to the water and enjoy the ocean breeze," notes a Seabreeze at Seal Beach visitor.

Hiking trails: The connected trail system at Crystal Cove State Park spans multiple parks. "No Name Ridge!! Amazing for EPIC SUNSETS!" reports one camper. "Lots of hiking and bike trails. We did a 12 mile loop to the north, and a ride along the coast on some bike paths."

Water recreation: Newport Dunes RV Resort provides lagoon access for paddle sports. One visitor noted, "They have activities for the kids like arts and crafts, an inflatable obstacle course or you can rent paddle boards or watch a movie on the beach. There are fantastic running/bike trails along the Back Bay."

Wildlife viewing: Dog-friendly campgrounds near Los Alamitos often border ecological preserves. "Wetlands on the base and birds galore," mentions a Seabreeze at Seal Beach camper. Bring binoculars and keep dogs leashed during wildlife viewing walks.

What campers like

Easy beach access: Waterfront RV Park provides direct beach proximity. "We are about a 2 minute walk to the sand, and 4 minutes to the oceanfront," explains one reviewer. "We rode bikes along the bike path through Huntington, and went for daily walks as well."

Convenient location: Many pet-welcoming camping options offer proximity to attractions. "Perfect spot to stay in central orange county. Nice amenities. Clean bathrooms. well functioning rv hook ups," reports a visitor to Anaheim Harbor RV Park.

Pool amenities: Several dog-friendly campgrounds near Los Alamitos feature swimming facilities. "We also liked having the hot tub/pool at the end of the day. Our girls loved swimming and soaking," noted a Waterfront RV Park visitor.

Security features: Gated entries provide peace of mind. "Very quiet and safe. Security is very good and felt very safe, especially considering the location," reports a Golden Shore RV Resort visitor. "The grounds are kept in excellent condition - very clean and secure."

What you should know

Site dimensions: Many campgrounds have strict length requirements. At Anaheim Harbor, "The 40ft RV length restriction includes the length of the hitch" and "If you have a larger RV or slide-outs it is recommended you book Deluxe space or Deluxe space+ parking."

Noise considerations: Highway proximity affects some campgrounds. "The sunset was absolutely beautiful and in the morning we were high up above the marine layer which was really cool to see. At night you could hear PCH traffic in the distance (sirens, loud motorcycles)," reports a Moro Campground visitor.

Reservation windows: Dog-accommodating sites fill quickly. "This campground fills up fast so book early!" advises a Moro Campground visitor. Many sites open reservation windows 6 months in advance.

Military requirements: Certain campgrounds require military credentials. "A well kept secret with one drawback; everyone has to have an ID card to get on the base or be pre approved by base security," notes a Seabreeze visitor.

Tips for camping with families

Activity options: Golden Shore RV Resort provides family-friendly amenities. "The pool, showers, bathrooms are all spotless," shares one visitor. "Security is very good and felt very safe."

Beach proximity: Consider the exact distance to sand when booking with kids. "In all, you are about a 2 minute walk to the sand, and 4 minutes to the oceanfront," explains a Waterfront RV Park camper about their location.

Kid-friendly facilities: Some campgrounds offer dedicated children's areas. "We spent time in the pool. After that I cooked dinner at our site while my daughters watched television in the adjacent club house. Afterwards they went swimming again," reports a visitor to Anaheim Harbor RV Park.

Spacing awareness: Consider site proximity when camping with children. "Campsites are VERY close together so be prepared to meet your neighbors. It's also very quiet as soon as the sun sets," notes a Moro Campground visitor.

Tips from RVers

Site selection: Choose carefully at Bonelli Bluffs for optimal comfort. "Some spaces monumentally better than others," advises one RVer. "We initially thought they double charged me, went to clarify only to realize the 2nd charge was for the 2nd night. So for 2 nights it was $142!"

Hookup configurations: Full hookups vary between parks. "All hookups 30/50 amp. Cable TV," notes a Bonelli Bluffs visitor. "The deluxe feel more like an RV site with a picnic table and grass. And for only a few bucks more," reports an Anaheim Harbor visitor.

Parking limitations: Many dog-friendly campgrounds near Los Alamitos have additional vehicle fees. "If you have a tow vehicle or are towing a vehicle you must pay per night for a parking spot, whether it fits on the site or not," warns an Anaheim Harbor camper.

Length restrictions: Verify your total vehicle length before booking. "The sites aren't huge so if you have a big rig or large trailer it will be tight. Most trailers parked their tow vehicle perpendicular to the space and some barely fit," notes a Bolsa Chica State Beach camper.
